Thank you very much for taking the time to post this video, I never took shop in high school recently I inherited a 79 F-150 with a 302. It was running like crap after watching your video I discovered that the firing order was incorrect and was able to repair it.

Thanx man, you helped me a bunch. I haven't done a tune up in years. Now that im single I have to do it myself again. I believe in paying someone else to do what I can do myself.

In case you remove a wire or two by mistake, follow the firing order, the rotation of the rotor, and cylinder arrangement.

Actually, you can rewire a distributor cap designating ANY terminal as #1 and follow the order of wiring as long as the wires reach. If you were to lift the distributor and point the rotor at a terminal designated as #1, it might work. If the chain has jumped, you can designate where it's pointing now and designate it as #1. Then rewire the wires on around following the order mentioned to get you home.

Looks like we got the same truck. Is yours an XL w/a 5 speed manual? My truck came from Canada. I just bought it & everything needs restoring it seems.

At 3:24... does the post from the distributor conduct electricity to the different contact points in the cap, going to the plug wires, and then to the sparkplugs?
If so, then should the shaft be clean, free of corrosion, and even, maybe, have some dielectric grease on it? Or no?
Am I not to worry about it?

Never wanto to put it on the posts.. Just a little on the rubber boot since the point is to shield the post from any dirt or corrosion. He said it wrong, but a good google search could keep someone from making that mistake

@@bkelsey6692 You put DiElectric Grease on the boot going to the distributor cap? I'm just trying to make sure. My searches seemed like people talking about stuff they didn't know about, or trying to make me do dumb stuff as a joke.
      I appreciate your help tho.

Did you go with a OEM Ford Cap & Rotor, or another brand? I'm getting ready to do a tune-up on my 1995 F-150, and I was thinking about going with a Cap that has the Brass terminals instead of the stock Ford. I'd rather have OEM Ford parts, but the Brass terminals are better so I'm not sure what to do.

Also did you ever replace the Wires & Plugs? I plan on going with just regular Copper Ford Motorsport Plugs, and the Ford Racing Wires in Blue.

I just found your Wire changing Vid.

After looking around the Cap your using looks like a Accel, is that it & if so how do you like it? It has the Brass Terminals like I'm wanting.

How do u know if u need to replace it I have a 94f150 5.0v8

Usually you find damage and pitting to to end of the rotor and terminal ends on the bottom of the cap. You may have intermittent spark loss. Usually people replace them as a maintenance item while changing spark plugs.

The part numbers for the distributors for the mustang differ than from the F-150. Same year, same size engine.
