Words can't express the enjoyment I had lessoning to this video. Brings back memorys when the music was good and not all the language used today.. Loved it!!
Loved their music when I was little and still love it now. Great video, running around, having a blast, cruising in the clown car...the funniest part is seeing so little traffic on the streets of LA.
My Dad used to play his albums all of the time, loved the album "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" too.....I'm also glad that Gino went to A&M records and that he gave Gino the chance to play for him and signed him up with A&M.....The rest is history......
Herb Alpert and TJB, Booker T, and the MG's and the Ventures, the few off the top of my head that had a chain of pop instrumental hits. Most everyone else had a hit or two, then out. How or why did the rest, whoever you want to name, not hit on a formula? There used to be a market for instrumental pop music, but we must have got turned off to it because we thought singing was something more of us could do. American Idol showed us otherwise, so we should get over it and enjoy again.
I recall listening to HA in a house we lived in when I was in K-1-2 grades! Great stuff. Dad had some old favorites like this that I still like today and have bought the music perhaps in an attempt to recapture that time period. I LOVE the slow buildup of Zorba the Greek and can picture it at a wedding dance where people start gradually filling up the dance floor during that buildup, and then just going wild during the climax part of it. Neat stuff.
This man looks soo hot in a tux! My favorite Herb Alpert & TJB song is Taste of Honey! Everytime I listen to his music it takes me back to my childhood! They just don't make em like Herb anymore!
Who would have guessed Herb Albert was making music videos long before anyone ever heard of MTV. Too bad he's not 40 again. Imagine what he would do with todays world of music and video! I'd pay good money to see that.
i recently discovered the film of them doing tangerine, with the dorsey poster on one of the columns at the venue. this stuff is fantastic and i love it. thanks for posting
When most of my fellow students were listening to Presley and the Beatles, I was listening to this guy. I just now realized that this is basicly a Mexican band. I still like it. Herb also helped the Carpenters get started. He picked their first hit. Although neither of them liked it, he made them sing it and it launched them.
I can remember seeing them in Wellington (NZ) in the mid 1960's. The concert was surpose to finish at 10pm but such was the reaction of the crowd, they did not leave the stage till 10.45pm.
Just to clarify my past comment on the date of this video, I made that comment, because some of the other videos made by the TJB were actually filmed in '67 - 'synced' to the pre-recordings and their respective dates of release.
Ruben my older brother had 9 of Herbs albums, I listened to all of them. Later on I got most of them on CD. I still can't find them all though. There's one song that I haven't heard since I was a kid.
This video was actually shot in '66 (or very near it) Nick Ceroli (the drummer)was the first one in the band to 'sport' a mustache at that time. Check out Nick in Ray Anthony's "Harlem Nocturne" video, circa 1963? (not sure on the date). Young drummer - no mustache. Great 'swing' number.
This was probably the last year that City Hall was still the tallest building in downtown Los Angeles. The area is now a giant mass of impersonal looking skyscrapers. At least the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion and the gazebo at the end of Olvera Street still pretty much look the same.
Wasn't this broadcast on TV as a "special" on NBC? I remember watching a few Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass specials when I was a kid that were very similar to this video.
I must make a correction - according to some research, Ray Anthony's show aired 1956-1957, if this is true, Nick Ceroli (the drummer) was only 16-17 years old when these shows originally aired - amazing. No wonder Herb Alpert grabbed him for his authentic live / studio line up in 1965 (Going Places!).
One last comment...any Nick Ceroli fans out there? Check out Ray Anthony's videos to see Nick without the mustache-he was Ray's drummer in the early '60's. Check out 'Harlem Nocturne'-and especially Vikki Carr's "That Old Black Magic", on Ray Anthony's Show - a good close-up of Nick at 00:50 & 00:57...he's probably only 21 yrs. old here! Great drummer...RIP Nick
I still love this music. If anything, it sounds better today than it ever did. And Herb is fantastic, talented, and soooo good-looking!
Brings back so many memories! So smooth.

I saw them way back in 1971 at a theatre in Wallingford, CT. They put on a great show and played to four encores. Great bunch of guys.
I agree with you dexterhill.. This was so popular back in the 60s and they still are very well remembered for there awesome sounds.
When they're all running out to the car reminds me of my family going on family vacations.

Always considered Herb Alpert & The TJB a total class act. Great music during a good time period. The mid to late 60's.
I was fortunate to see a revamped version of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass in the late eighties at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland.
I loved these guys back in High School. These tunes are most familiar. Just love this band. Thanks.
I got to see them at the Oakdale Musical Theatre in Wallingford, CT under a tent back in the early 70's. Tijuana Taxi is my favorite!
Herb Alpert & The TJB arrangements were incredible. Very tight. Not a note out of place.
What a great medley & what great memories this clip brought back!
Thank's for this rare promo video of Herb Alpert and the TJB.I remember watching his first tv special when i was 6.
Thanks for sharing. Great memories for me.
Gosh, everyone is so young! '66, let's see, I was about 2 yo. Thanks for the upload.
My Dad used to play his albums all of the time, loved the album "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" too.....I'm also glad that Gino went to A&M records and that he gave Gino the chance to play for him and signed him up with A&M.....The rest is history......

Relaxing in the evening needs something motivating to be ambitious for tomorrow. An hour or few notes from Herb Albert can charge you.

I can't get over how much Lou the pianist looks like my uncle.
Best band ever!
wow...complete FREEDOM!!! no seatbelts required, smoking allow, no women rights yet...what a decade!!!

I can remember cruising along in my XKE doing about 60 mph....but by the time Zorba got into full swing my speedometer was hitting 95.

Kids, this was before Alpert became a jazz artist.
...those days everyone enjoyed real FREEDOM...now u have to wear seatbelts, wear healmets, cant smoke...etc.
In the beginning, they are escaping from the Parker Center. Home of the LAPD.LOL
At the Wheel Jerry Moss Herb's other half of A&M.
what is the song he plays when he's riding around in the car in the beginning
Tijuana Taxi
after the lonely bull song
1966 seems like a century ago
2/5 of a century, anyway.
...Vem de deus...
They were great, but in actually Herb himself is Jewish :)
