- I'm currently in possession of 2 Ferrari F430s, a 2005 that is modified (mine) and my buddy Roberto's 2007 that is completely stock. I have been asked many times to show what modifications I have done to my car, so here's a comparison of modified versus stock. I also noticed while driving the 2007 that it has a few very small differences.

I also noticed that my stock F430’s downshifts behave a lot different on my xbox than on ps4

Thanks for doing the comparison especially on the downshifts. I have a 2007 and thought there was something wrong with my downshifts. Mine does exactly that! downshifts feels slow and like its hunting for gears. However anything above 5k rpm its fine. Now I know my car is normal! Thank you!

Very good observations man, bravo. Hmmm now I think about it I do recall the hunting on downshift, even when I was on a very spirited drive...yours look more instant and I def prefer that. What a surprise discovery, awesome video
Thanks! Yeah, it was strange the first time driving his I immediately noticed the downshifts, but the upshifts were a little more subtle in the difference. I'm really curious if that's consistent across all the 07's and later vs 05-06.
I have put Fabspeed sports headers with blanket as OEM manifolds tend to crack which can make a serious damage to the engine. Then I changed the exhaust sytemen to S-Line. The combination of these changes made a significant sound improvements... I love it and plan to keep my car as it is the one of the latest model which you could feel some of analog traditional system with NA V8 engine of Ferrari.

Me too, i like the Nero colour but prefer the red car as it has some good mods such as exhaust, lower ride height and fatter tyres, better stance to it, plus it sounds way better than the Nero one
Ferreri back then had not QC. Every car is mostly made for that owner.

Dan on your F430 in the display it alternates from RACE to a pic of Car with arrows pointing up under the wheels...do you know what this alert is for ? I was wondering if it is an alert for your tire size being to far out from stock ? I was looking at going to a bigger tire size like you have and was recommended not to as the Tech said the computer only accepts up to I believe a 3% difference from stock before it has issues calibrating parameters for all the Nanny's. If you don't know what the symbol is could you take a pic and start a thread on Ferrari Chat to see if anyone knows what it is. I am very curious to what it means.
It's a suspension fault. My aftermarket suspension seems to trigger that warning message about 1 in every 10 times I drive the car. But it just goes away next time I drive it.

Being a guy that took a crash course in transmissions rebuilding and longevity, faster more solid shifts = longer clutch life.
Slow/lazy shifting = burnt clutches

If it slower it mean something don't work right so they need time to shift. It depend of how Computer decided to do.

Also I've no experience with these cars but the top left gauge is the oil temp/sensor right? When does it usually warm up fully? Middle of gauge or close? (230 F).
It looked like it was barely above 120 F before you decided to floor it. My Porsche I wait until its warmed until about 200 F.
It won't get much higher than that at these temps.
Nice video , Looking back when you got on the gas W/ your 430 @ 8+ Rpm's - Roberto's cars Rpm's only @ 6-7 . Both cars look and sound very nice .. This car would rent out very nice if it was in your fleet !

Good video and really interesting. You said about making the car your own which is so true. Think I’d be happy with a compromise re the exhaust as I wouldn’t want it as loud as yours all the time. Any suggestions on that please ?
Well, I suggest a valved exhaust so you can make it loud or quiet. If you don't want to go nuts, keep 100 or 200 CEL Cats in there which will tone down the volume. I'm a fan of quite a few brands... IPE, Kline, Armytrix, Novitec...
the upshift hanging could be some slip, the downshift hunting could be rudimentary form of rev matching

What's the build date on Roberto's car? Mine in an 07 as well, but a Dec 06 build date. I swear his up shifts faster than mine as well.

Knowing Ferrari how fast the F1 shift depend on its mood of the day.
Reliability wise is there any difference between the first year F430s compared to the 2007-09 ones?
There's some that say so but I can only say mine had been pretty solid.
It looks like your car just blips throttle to rev match when downshifting, as it should. But Roberto’s car looks like it’s slipping the clutch more when downshifting. The RPM fluctuating like that when engaging a lower gear is the clutch slipping. Seems like that would wear it out faster, even though it might feel smoother and less harsh when driving.
That could be entirely possible. It would be fascinating to find a way to measure this hypothesis.
Your car seems to be auto rev matching on downshifts where as Robertos isn’t ..this is usually coded via software and on my e46 m3 it can be coded to rev match on downshifts which the m3 csl does by default. It also uses an automated single clutch transmission..

The story from Ferrari experts in the UK is that the big changes came from Summer 2008, mainly as you say to improve the programming of the F1 box and the interface with the E-Dif. My late '08 car certainly has a very sharp change and precise blips on the downshifts and the clutch is so far looking to last around 60k miles. It certainly feels a lot better sorted than older versions I've driven and there are much more noticeable differences between manettino modes. The main thing I spotted though was that the side switch panel on my car has switches for fuel filler lid, fog lights, demisters and front lid. Does the US not require rear fogs? Also you seem to be missing the Launch Control button. Perhaps that's judged too antisocial over there. In any case no sane person uses LC on these single-clutch tranmissions as it can destroy a clutch in less than a dozen uses!
There was no LC on the US cars available, and rear fogs are not required here.

1 clutch. They last a lot longer than people think
the variance on the shifting behaviour I would say depends on the clutch life, brand and quality.
Possibly but more likely it's the TCU because it was changed in 2007.

If you do any kind of motorway driving or have terrible beaten up eardrums like mine, you will definitely appreciate the exhaust valves. The motorway drone is crazily annoying (valves always open experience..)

The downshifts....the rev match seems more aggressive on your car. I wonder if your gearing is a little bit lower, whereas Roberto's is a bit higher?

Random-TV your comment makes no sense, they both have the same engine. If you straight piped the black car it would sound totally identical. Both engines run the same compression ratio and exhaust geometry...

Weird about the glove box and gas door. Gallardo, the car has to be off and door closed to open the fuel door. Door open, can't open the fuel door. Car on, can't open the fuel door. I've forgotten this a time or two and used the manual pull to put gas in the car 😂

stock idle sounds so much better and the low rpm drone from the aftermarket exhaust is unbearable as is the rasp.

Ferrari electrics man.. the amount of times I have stopped for petrol ( I believe you call it gas in the US :) ) only to have to start the car again just to get the filler cap switch to work!

I know it's a tiny thing, but it made me cringe - you shouldn't drop the front bonnet lid shut like that, just gently place it down, then click it to lock it shut.

could the difference in downshifting have to do with your tune? Even though they likely didnt change your transmission tuning, I wonder if they did implicitly by changing throttle maps. I would have to see how the algorithm is written to determine how the transmission "blips" the throttle from a software standpoint. I guess what I'm saying is if the transmission mimics a throttle blip just like a signal from the throttle position sensor does to the ecu, maybe the blips get better with a nice sharp tune! It seems the car is definitely smart enough to respond to quicker revving in a way that results in better downshifting. your f430 downshifts better than any others ive ever seen. I suspect this is why. This would also explain why your car slightly overrevvs on upshifts vs stock cars.
It's a good question that I'm not sure I can answer... I suppose we'd need to get another 05 and see how it behaves.
