  • I am by no means a Ferrari buying expert, but alas I have learned a few things to look for when buying a Ferrari F430.
    I will show a few of the common problems to look for and some of the issues that you will face when trying to find the right F430 for you.

    Just bought one of these (and it's amazing, only 20k miles). Here is some more tips if you consider one of those:
    1) if it's got an F1 transmission (most will have), make sure you let the dealer read out the current clutch wear. They can wear really fast if not properly driven (lot of hard starts, lot of citry traffic, keeping gear engaged while stationary - always pull both paddels at the same time to engage neutral if you are stationary eg. on a red light)
    2) the catalyc converters break easiely and burn out quickly. Not sure about the US folks, but in Europe that is a show stopper because you do have to replace them to pass the emission control. There is two of them and one costs around 4k $.
    3) check the paint on the engine, often it starts to fall off after time
    4) as explained check the tail lights, their mounts are breaking a lot
    5) make sure there is all original tools including the flash light still there. It is a cheap as fuck flash light, but for reselling purposes it's quite important.
    6) the Capristo exhaust mounts really solve the issue of cracking headers. Good invest if the model you look at does not have them. Preferably it's already done. Downside is, tailpipes will vibrate much more.
    7) if the F1 isn't shifting properly have the transmission hydraulics fluid checked. Normally it's solved rather easiely having this leveled. However, leveling is difficult for the shop. It's accessible below the first cover on the right side of the engine bay. There is an overflow just beside the rear difusor so don't worry if you fill up the hydraulic oil and get some oil down there if you were driving fast.

  • @andrewnprice
    @andrewnprice 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, one other note. I watched the Hoovie's Garage video about selling his land yacht earlier which then led me Doug DeMuro's article on Jalopnik from when he finally sold his 360 (I swear this is going somewhere relevant), and he mentioned that (at least where he lives) when getting a PPI inspection done Ferrari charges the owner for the inspection (all two hours worth) and every interested buyer an additional sum (in his case $380) who wants to see the report. Also he had to wait 16 days to get his car inspected. I am not sure if it works that way in Austin, but... that may seem weird (and absolutely outrageous) to someone that has never purchased a Ferrari before. Again, it may vary by region, but probably something worth noting.

    • @andrewnprice
      @andrewnprice 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, seemed nuts to me as well but I know even Audi prices and practices are kind of silly expensive sometimes, and they know they have you in a captive market. There are just not that many Ferrari specialists out there, and you are kind of beholden to the buyer; as there are only so many people that are willing/able to spend that much money on a car and you have to satisfy their need for reassurance on such an expensive purchase.

  • @andrewnprice
    @andrewnprice 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hearing you point out all the little quirks with Italian engineering and build quality makes me think of that scene from Rush when Lauda is going on about a Ferrari being a crap box and the engineer says, *insert Italian accent here* "You can't say that, it's a Ferrari." Out of curiosity do you watch Rob Ferretti's channel? He tends to have some good tips on keeping your Ferrari running on the cheap as well. For example buying used Ferrari parts through ferrparts and exoticautorecycling. For example they have the wheel hub bearing for your car for the same price you paid in the UK (although yours might have been new).

    • @andrewnprice
      @andrewnprice 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh sorry if that is something you have answered before (oh, and for the sudden deluge of comments). I just found your channel today and have been watching through your back catalog as time/work allows. And yeah Rob is cool for the most part. A bit cheesy at times, but that is the way it is when you have to push out a video a day and try to make money on youtube.

    • @andrewnprice
      @andrewnprice 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I hadn't seen your channel before, and trust me I follow a lot of car channels. It is cool that it is growing like that though. I helped a friend of mine with his Subaru WRX Volkswagen channel somewhat, and I know from my own experience doing youtube it is hard to grow your viewers base. It can get discouraging when you are putting in a lot of time into recording and posting content to only see slow growth, and so to suddenly get a jump like that... always feels nice. Definitely keep up the good work.

    Im looking into purchasing an F430 relatively soon. If my local dealer (actually a pretty large dealership here in South Florida) is selling the car, is it common practice to get the PPI at that dealership or a different dealership just for security? Or does it not matter and have them throw the PPI in as part of the deal ;). Beautiful car and thank you for all the great info!

    • @normalguysupercar
      @normalguysupercar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I test drove a F430 about 6 months ago and was surprised to hear a vibration coming from the dash on the passenger side.
    Is that the defroster vent covers you mentioned?
    Other than oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, what other deal breakers are there that are specific to the car? Like you, I'd be ok with wobbly mirrors and tail lights as they are replaceable. Thanks, Jeff

    • @EnthusiastsGarage
      @EnthusiastsGarage 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the F430 has been known for being a very robust vehicle and doesn't suffer from the major issues as some of it's predecessors did. there are no belt or engine out services so maintenance is much cheaper compared to a 355/360. Dan covered some very good issues and the biggest thing is deciding how your going to use the vehicle first. there are a lot of buyers guides and discussions on the various Ferrari forums so spend your time looking through those. there are corrosion issues on the back of the front air inlets on the bottom and the paint can flake off in the door jams and wiper voids. another big consideration is carbon brakes. they are optional from 2005-2007 and standard after that. they do usually last a long time but if you ever had to replace them they are very expensive.

    be careful. the PPI is 20 grand and they force a 5 thousand dollar oil change. the tires are like 30 thousand. None of this statement is true.... I'm working on my BS story

    If I was going to buy a Ferrari I'd want to make sure that cardboard box it came in hadn't been opened.

    • @normalguysupercar

      It could get a scratch otherwise.

      I'd be concerned some kid opened it up in the toy store and got sticky fingerprints on it.

      I am sure you will! great information better than a lot of forums, I call it revealing the truth(I only knew about the headers - does the 430 scud have the same issue?)). I noticed 458s are a massive amount more but would be interesting to really know the issues they have. BTW, I do not own a Ferrari :)

    So things are loose, sticky, broken and come appart? And you consider it all as normal?
    I drive a 2001 Mazda 626 with about 183 000 miles on te clock and nothing is broken, ratling or came appart.
    Maybe, just mabe, it is an overrated and overengineered piece of shit!
