2012 NISSAN Altima - Shift Modes

  • Shift Modes (if so equipped)
    Your vehicle may be equipped with three shift modes: Drive, Drive Sport and Manual. For normal forward driving, use the Drive position. If you move the shift lever to Manual, the vehicle will shift into Drive Sport mode. In this mode, the transmission changes to a "sporty" driving, shift operation, creating a more aggressive acceleration feeling than the "Drive" mode and provides a gear change sensation when the driver accelerates quickly.
    From the Drive Sport mode, you can shift into Manual mode by moving the shift lever to the plus or minus side. Manual Shift mode offers the driver more control for maximum performance.
    Once engaged, the Manual Shift mode will display on the position indicator and the transmission will automatically choose a range closest to your vehicle's current speed. In Manual mode, you can choose different shift ranges using the shift lever.
    To shift UP to a higher gear, push the shift lever forward to the PLUS side.
    When shifting to a LOWER GEAR, like when decelerating coming down a hill, pull the lever back once to the MINUS side.
    Moving the shift lever to the same side twice will shift through the ranges in succession.
    To return to normal driving mode, move the shift lever from Manual to the Drive position.

      There's no sport mode it's just manual mode M1 means gear 1, M2 means gear 2 and so on. Shift like you would in a manual car. If you dont shift its gonna redline more often.

    My manual mode doesn’t work. Car dealership said it was something electrical but said they weren’t going to fix it, even though they sold me the vehicle already messed up. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I had to have the transmission replaced and the manual mode still doesn’t work.

    • @evanderdavao
      @evanderdavao 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      there a video in youtube about that. its very easy and you can fix it by yourself its because someone probably shift it really hard and the connectors inside was detached you just gotta get it open and re attach it

  • @tomcooper6108

    So the manual is always on in the car a buddy purchased. The normal Drive mode is like 1st gear manual until you shift it. Nissan ought to have their ass kicked for designing such a screwed up transmission.

Can someone tell me how it works tho? Like how do you know when to shift?? I’ve never moved it to the + or - sign so I don’t wanna accidentally fuck something up. Lmao

    • @znk_1999
      @znk_1999 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That means you've been driving in the first gear only until it redlines and auto shifts to a higher gear which is bad. You have to manually shift gears like you would in a manual transmission car + to go up a gear and - to go down a gear.

    • @isaiah2536
      @isaiah2536 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@znk_1999I’m sure she meant “D’s” not manual however if she actually did drive in the manual mode then like you said “Driving in the first gear only until it redlines and auto shifts to a higher gear which is bad.”. You would destroy the engine/transmission aka (cvt) in a matter of weeks if your lucky! quick way to blow your shit up lol

      @@isaiah2536 i just bought this car, and made the same mistake. (this is my first car). I thought, "ok this car shouldn't be this loud and hitting 4-5k rpm..." also, it didn't coast well, slowing down a lot anytime i wasn't on the accelerator. drove like 30-40mph for about half an hour in first gear.
      I was concerned then went home and read the manual, realised my mistake... the car runs so smooth in regular drive mode. do you think i did any lasting damage though?

    • @isaiah2536
      @isaiah2536 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@violarulez Absolutely not! so long as you don’t repeat that mistake (Again) your car is golden. The insignificant change you get when driving in manual or sport mode opposed to regular (Drive) is not worth. The only noticeable difference will be your MPG.
