    The biggest issue with raw food diets is ensuring your dog is getting a nutrient complete diet. To many people think that as long as they do a “BARF diet” or “Prey diet” or add a “variety” that they will be fine but that simple isn’t true. People must purposefully and actually know the nutrient breakdown of the food they are feeding.
    It’s all about using common sense really.

    • @CSTYLETHESLIM

      False statement no such thing as complete nutrient diet most humans don't even get a complete nutrient diet from cereal to chips canned foods that don't expire for years from preservatives give me a break but in this world people are blinded by fake facts they continue feeding to other people who don't use common sense thats why mcdonalds burger king and most other restaurants is popular because people think you get a complete nutrient diet from fast foods.

      @@themyrtlewoodshomestead9371 I understand that but what I'm saying is who actually eat foods every day with the right balanced complete nutrients you speak of? So if humans doesn't eat right which is why cancer diabetes and other illnesses plague the world how you think someone is going to give their pet a complete nutrient balanced diet? Kibble dehydrates dogs no different than kids growing up eating mcdonalds and parents doesn't know the key to stay from being sick is staying alkaline and staying away from mucus causing foods. Its just so much misleading info about whats good for human consumption also pet consumption until common sense come into play.

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      CSTYLETHESLIM you realize that there are people who grow and raise their own food right. In facts I feel like it’s easier for dogs to eat better then there humans because they don’t have a choice. They can only eat what’s in front of them.

    • @CSTYLETHESLIM
      @CSTYLETHESLIM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@themyrtlewoodshomestead9371 Yes but the number of people who do grow and eat their own food isn't the majority so I'm only talking about food companies who purposely make food that isn't good for humans how do you expect food for dogs to be any better. So for me it is do the best you can to keep your ph balance above 7 and do the best you can to keep your pet away from kibble and there is ways but the cheaper and easy option usually over rides the best or smarter option.

    I will never go back to any traditional commercial pet food for my dogs. I don’t think the pet food industry gets it. It’s like cord cutting/streaming. Once people switch from cable/satellite tv to streaming, they never go back. I’m a cord cutter as well. Done with cable forever. That’s how I feel about commercial dog food. I’ve made the switch to raw for my dogs, and I will never go back. It’s not a fad. When consumers can take control and truly make a choice or choices, there typically is a paradigm shift. I think that is what is happening here for both streaming and feeding raw. Both industries are in denial and are having a hard time adjusting. Bad mouthing raw food, when they’ve been responsible for killing thousands of animals (i.e. Malimine, taurine deficiency in cats back in the 80’s, vitamin D recently, etc.). Then having a slow response, blaming consumers at first, denying there were problems, and then trying to cover their mistakes. Wonder why people turn to raw or their own cooked diets??? Shame on them for trying to tell me I’m killing my pet. No, I’ll take my chances feeding my dog raw.

    Important to understand is that the only reason that the melamine problem in pet food was found quickly (the FDA, USDA took it seriously immediately) was because it was recognized that the melamine wheat gluten was almost certainly entering human food. It was a human food threat. Period-- Had it just been a threat to dogs then it would have taken years for any agency to even admit there was a problem. So, nobody should be under any illusion that there are protocols now in place to quickly address contamination in pet food.

    Hi Rodney..... Great video :). I feed my 1.5 year old Chocolate Lab Natures Domain grain free Salmon and Sweet potato. She used to eat Chicken and Rice kibble and had a bit of an allergy to it and and had a problem with her bowels and smelling bad etc. The grain free turned her around 100% and she’s thrived on it since. So to hear this stuff about grain free is very frustrating!!
    Also, it’s hard to know who to trust, because you see all these TH-cam videos with vets telling you to get off grain free and then the pull up a bag of “Hills” and say this is best blah blah blah.... We all know how much they pay vets to sell that stuff ;/

      It is very frustrating, agreed! My lab/golden mix has several allergies as well, one of them is chicken. I feed him a rotational diet, meaning that along with some kibble I also feed him a homemade diet. If dogs are fed the exact same food, same ingredients day in, day out for years, the likelihood of allergies is higher. Either that or rotate your dogs kibble with different protein sources and/or brands. I use Nature's Logic which has millet seed in it and no chickpeas or potatoes. :)

    Some dogs eat shite, vomit, will lick up blood, and drink toilet water, etc, etc if they can get away with it....The stomach acids in a dog’s gut are so much stronger than ours so these behaviors rarely get a dog sick, where it would potentially kill us. Since their bodies were designed to eat carcasses over days, once captured, these strong acids exist to extinguish bad bacteria naturally before it affects them systemically. And if it does affect them, which is rare, they may end up with loose stool.
    Find something else to stress about people. I’ve been feeding my dog Rodneys complete raw food recipe for almost a year now, and my dog is thriving off and loving it. And because I make it at home with human grade antibiotic free turkey and beef liver with all organic vegetables and eggs, flax oil etc. I trust the ingredients, and costs approx $60 a month,and takes me 5 min to prepare a 4 day batch. So people, if you’re worried about salmonella find a complete raw food recipe like Rodneys and simply cook it. (Shrug)

      It's not just mistrust it's also people who want to feed their pets a less processed diet, much how people are trending towards less processed foods. Typically, it's because doing a lot of processing on foods makes them unhealthier. Yeah, a human can eat instant ramen every day and take a vitamin supplement to keep everything complete, but we all know that's incredibly unhealthy and will lead to weight gain along with other health issues. It's the same school of thought with pet food; super highly processed kibble or wet food that had to have vitamins added back in via synthetic supplements or a raw/gently cooked diet that's nutritionally complete from a company. Some of us just want our pets on a more whole-food based diet vs highly processed concoctions.

      @@triforce_majora I understand wanting to eat a Whole Foods diet I think that’s great. However plant and animal agriculture is omg the population on low quality foods. Just look at all the pesticide residue in supposedly fresh foods. Even with the new USDA standards organic can contain pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and petrochemicals.
      Animals are treated horrible in these factories and their quality is getting lower and lower every year. It’s hard for me to look at the empirical data and come to the conclusion that this is our solution.

    Dogs SHOULD be able to handle the bacteria - they should also be able to handle raw, soft bones - but mine can't.
    I haven't given up though. Still trying to rebuild her and I won't stop until she does.

      She was very sick to start with, a healthy dog can deal with salmonella they even harbor salmonella. If you dog was well it wouldn't have gotten even sicker. Shame you are blaming raw food. Most animals put on a raw food diet become sick at the start because they are detoxifying from all the toxic food you have been feeding them such as the garbage kibble. It takes a while for an animal to build a healthy system.

    Who ever told you feeding a dog raw food is bad should be fixed so they don’t reproduce. What in the world do you think wild animals eat what do you think every other animal besides humans eats, raw food animals have enzymes in there mouth and gut to fight bad bacteria from raw meats. Dogs and cats especially because they are mid tier predators/scavengers so they have extremely strong resistance to off meat.

The thing about raw diet is that it can get expensive at times, for those days where the price of raw goes up i do feed my puppy some kibble, i mean as long as my pup doesn't starve hes happy but I do try to be careful with kibble and do treat him to raw as much as I can

    Why would anybody feed an animal that they care about food they wouldn't imagine eating themselves? Over 30 brands of dog food have been known to have CO2, a common euthanasia drug meaning that a lot of meat-Mill and bone-Mill is coming from euthanized animals (which isn't illegal) and plus animals like dogs and cats have way faster metabolisms that can pass salmonella through way before I can attach and salmonella can stay on kibble for up to a year and a half ( plus with raw meat cancer rates are way lower and animals have fewer dental problems)

    There are countless recall on pet food. Salmonella, lead poisoning, vitamin a toxicity, metal fragments, unbalanced,. These are all issues that common pet food has had over the years. Pet food is not made for the best interest of dogs. As it's best cater to the human as a marketing tactic. It is easy to give and it's less likely to go bad over an extended period of time. What diet when done properly is the best diet for dogs as wild dogs haven't eaten his diet for thousands of years. I think it's funny how whenever these so-called people bash the raw diet, they never go straight to the overall balance raw diet. The only go after the common mistakes people make when starting a diet. But they also failed to mention that pet food has had all these issues in them as well and they never seem to want to ever acknowledge the fact that maybe a wall diet is better when done properly.

      @jed6780 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I've tried it, so here's my quick review - Farmer's Dog is one of the better offerings on the market, but then again, the bar is horrendously low. It's fresh, human grade food that's leaps and bounds better than the industry standard. However, they still use lots of fillers as the second ingredient...not as bad as brands like Just Food for Dogs, which use potatoes and rice as a top ingredient to lower costs, but stuff like chickpeas, lentils, and sweet potato. These aren't bad per se, but don't give your dog a nutritionally dense diet and, again, are there to make the product cheaper. FD also have lots of synthetics which can be an issue in its own way. Look at Susan Thixtons 2021 list of foods or look at some of Dr. Becker's guidelines for what to look for in the link below. My personal recommendation would be a brand like Raised Right or my fave, Evermore. They cost more than Farmer's Dog, but they really maximize your dog's nutrition with no cheap fillers, batch lab testing, grass fed beef, ethically sourced and organic ingredients, minimal supplementation, etc. Good luck.

Then they charge more than it cost to just go make your own food that is fresh and unprocessed by a company thats only purpose is to try to food labels for a dollar so if you think for 1 min they give a shit about health for your dog your wrong. This is what matters to them $ and its no different for humans. The whole industry should be out of business its a wide misunderstanding that everyone needs to have pet lets be clear here 90% of people i have met dont make there own food and go with some cheap ass company and end up killing there dog. My mom did can her dog died of cancer young then switch to a mixed breed and went raw and its the same ordeal. Like how long have dogs been domesticated you mean to tell me you no body knows exactly what a dog needs and just sold as 1 standard and no coming up with some cheap ingredient that mimics protien. If people used gloves masks and dont let it get infected, meats sit for long periods of time un frozen allowing envirnment to play a factor. This falls on the manufatures and their lazy cheap habits selling something for more than its worth times over making the average consumer buy cheap food which isnt the right decision ether.

    One thing that I do when dealing with dog food is have a small all bag that I’ve bought but have not opened in my pantry for 1 month and then open it after that month. That way I know that if it was gonna recall it would have within that time. It seems like a smart thing to do. I also by small bags like 3lb to 5lbs at a time. What do you think about these steps I’m taking?

    Wow! who knows who is telling the truth. Abunch of vets who sale junk food had this done. Why dont we just eat our dogs and quit worring about feeding them Will save a lot of money! Now we know that a lot of vets sell junk dog food and are loosing business. They have a biased reason to back this. I have two small dogs and have tried so many foods over the years with all the dogs I have hadand it hasnt mattered what type of food. they have lived around the same time. in fact my earlier dogs had cheapm food and lived a little longer than the two i lost over the last two years and their food was very exspensive. The two I have now i spend (one 6pound and one 20 pound) i am spending around 220. dollars a month and that isnt including treats. You cant trust any body they all lie and cheat. Look at what Blue Buffloe did.. It almost killed one of my older dogs. I have decided to just find a food that the love to eat and hope it isnt being lied about. I started Using Dr Marty's and at least my Dogs love to eat it. I hope and pray they arent lying about how good it is. I am sure that most of you will agree that it is devestating to loose one of they babies.
