I really disagree. She is just repeating misinformation about trans people and misrepresenting what parents of trans kids go through. It's actually really harmful. She is a conservative, she has a simplistic opinion of gender and she is using cherry picked data to make her case. If you see what clinicians do in the area of gender dysphoria, based on the full range of research, it contradicts pretty much everything she says. And spreading this misinformation IS hurting trans people by denying that they even exist and fueling bigotry. But unfortunately Bill has a long history of transphobia because he thinks it's all just a PC panic, so it's not surprising that he platforms her for 20 minutes...

kerryn67 I was skeptical about trans people coming into this whole thing, then the child of a family member came out as trans and it became a whole thing in the family as we are/were religious and had a lot of preconceived ideas about it, as well as church doctrine telling us what to think. It was the evidence that convinced me that trans kids need to be listened to, supported, and in the right cases, given medical treatment. That could be puberty blockers or hormone therapy in due course. There are some kids who it's not right for, that is true, but Debra Sog says transition should NEVER be supported until adulthood and that is wrong. Many kids are saved a life of dysphoria by being able to transition earlier. It's a while since I went through the science for myself so I don't have all the links bookmarked now, but there are really good YT channels that debunk the misinformation. If you are curious, check out Contrapoints and Essence of Thought. The thing that gives away Soh is when she says that "gender is binary". This is definitely false. Nothing in the world, let alone biology is binary. There are exceptions to every rule and every biologist knows this. She declares gender as binary from her ideology. It's simply not an empirical claim and there it's not a scientific one. People just need to get over it when it comes to this topic. The world is as it is. People are as they are. There is just no good in telling people that they can't be what they are - it just ends up causing bigotry and harm. Soh implies that helping gender dysphoric young people transition, with proper medical care, is child abuse. She is horribly wrong. Forcing kids to live as the wrong gender is child abuse. Honestly, I've seen the effects. It's heartbreaking. And Soh also wants kids to be helped to stay the gender they were assigned at birth (which is like gay kids being given conversion therapy) because life as a trans person is hard, but it's people like her that MAKE it hard!

Debra Soh made me think I was wrong & that recent research had evolved & made different claims. Her claim that most gender dysphoric children are just gay left me stunned. A brief google search showed that she does not represent the scientific consensus on the treatment of gender dysphoria but she is an outsider on her views & some consider her anti-trans or transphobic. I’ll definitely look into it further but I’m relieved that I’m not 100% outdated on my views. My only concern is what is best in the long term for these kids. The rates of suicide & mental illness in this group is highly disproportionate to non trans kids & is totally unacceptable. Positive medical & psychological outcomes must be pursued through ongoing research & evaluation. Thanks again for replying. Have a great day ✌️🇦🇺😊

A deep fake requires it to be, for lack of a better term, created anew from whole cloth. Using computer generated visual effects, you create a video that is indistinguishable from a genuine video and allows you to create something that never happened at all. For example, you use preexisting visual and audio assets to create a cinema grade 3D model of your subject, in this example Pelosi, and then generate a wholly new video where she says or does something that is utterly fake and fabricated. It’s more than just editing an existing video, like the drunk and slurring edited video referenced in Liz Mair’s answer.

I really disagree. She is just repeating misinformation about trans people and misrepresenting what parents of trans kids go through. It's actually really harmful.
She is a conservative, she has a simplistic opinion of gender and she is using cherry picked data to make her case.
If you see what clinicians do in the area of gender dysphoria, based on the full range of research, it contradicts pretty much everything she says.
And spreading this misinformation IS hurting trans people by denying that they even exist and fueling bigotry.
But unfortunately Bill has a long history of transphobia because he thinks it's all just a PC panic, so it's not surprising that he platforms her for 20 minutes...

I was skeptical about trans people coming into this whole thing, then the child of a family member came out as trans and it became a whole thing in the family as we are/were religious and had a lot of preconceived ideas about it, as well as church doctrine telling us what to think.
It was the evidence that convinced me that trans kids need to be listened to, supported, and in the right cases, given medical treatment. That could be puberty blockers or hormone therapy in due course.
There are some kids who it's not right for, that is true, but Debra Sog says transition should NEVER be supported until adulthood and that is wrong. Many kids are saved a life of dysphoria by being able to transition earlier.
It's a while since I went through the science for myself so I don't have all the links bookmarked now, but there are really good YT channels that debunk the misinformation.

The thing that gives away Soh is when she says that "gender is binary". This is definitely false. Nothing in the world, let alone biology is binary. There are exceptions to every rule and every biologist knows this. She declares gender as binary from her ideology. It's simply not an empirical claim and there it's not a scientific one.
People just need to get over it when it comes to this topic. The world is as it is. People are as they are. There is just no good in telling people that they can't be what they are - it just ends up causing bigotry and harm.
Soh implies that helping gender dysphoric young people transition, with proper medical care, is child abuse. She is horribly wrong. Forcing kids to live as the wrong gender is child abuse. Honestly, I've seen the effects. It's heartbreaking.
And Soh also wants kids to be helped to stay the gender they were assigned at birth (which is like gay kids being given conversion therapy) because life as a trans person is hard, but it's people like her that MAKE it hard!

My thoughts on trans kids & their treatment is pretty much the same as yours. Debra Soh made me think I was wrong & that recent research had evolved & made different claims. Her claim that most gender dysphoric children are just gay left me stunned. A brief google search showed that she does not represent the scientific consensus on the treatment of gender dysphoria but she is an outsider on her views & some consider her anti-trans or transphobic.
I’ll definitely look into it further but I’m relieved that I’m not 100% outdated on my views. My only concern is what is best in the long term for these kids. The rates of suicide & mental illness in this group is highly disproportionate to non trans kids & is totally unacceptable. Positive medical & psychological outcomes must be pursued through ongoing research & evaluation.

They don’t seem to understand the definition of a “deep fake video” very well. The Pelosi video is just an edit of an existing video.
A deep fake requires it to be, for lack of a better term, created anew from whole cloth. Using computer generated visual effects, you create a video that is indistinguishable from a genuine video and allows you to create something that never happened at all. For example, you use preexisting visual and audio assets to create a cinema grade 3D model of your subject, in this example Pelosi, and then generate a wholly new video where she says or does something that is utterly fake and fabricated. It’s more than just editing an existing video, like the drunk and slurring edited video referenced in Liz Mair’s answer.

Normally, I find Savage interesting... but his railroading Dr. Soh on a question that she was asked while citing a BS story as brilliant despite its blatant lies (e.g. the Subject wasn't even radicalized, as the title suggested), was really not a good look IMHO.
