    Plumber here. To anyone watching this, these valves are very, very delicate. The part of the video where he shows you using the strap wrench on the bonnet nut be careful not to use too much force. If you do, you will bend the valve body, creating a massive leak. If you live in a part of the country that has hard water, there is a chance you will have to replace the entire valve.

      I was watching this video because I can't figure out why water won't come out when I replace the cartridge. It was working fine except for a drip. I replaced the cartridge with a new one and now I can't figure out how to get the water to come out. I turn the water to the house on and the shower just sits there. When I turn off the water and take out the cartridge, a little water comes out. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I even tried shaking it to make sure the float or whatever is in the cartridge was loose because someone said to try that.
      Any thoughts?

    So this video helped me and my husband fix our Delta shower head leak. It took us an hour and a half, but I don't think we would have figured it out if we didn't watch the video and know what to expect. Our cartridge broke into two pieces while we were taking it out and it would have stopped us from moving forward if you didn't share your experience. We ended up taking a channel lock to the part stuck in the wall and pulled it out. Thank you for helping us through this. NO DRIPS OR LEAKS!!

    Good to know about the pre and post 2006! Thanks for the info! I've replaced many shower valve cartridges over the years. This Monitor 14 was the biggest PITA I ever had to remove! You are lucky that it came out, fairly easy compared to mine! I was able to get the set screw out of the handle, but the handle still did not come loose! Now, the front half of the cartridge is still stuck to it! I put a drywall screw into the remaining half of the cartridge, that was still stuck inside of the valve body, then clamped a vise-grip to the screw, to make a pull handle. Pulled on it as hard as I could, no way! I got me a hammer. With the claw end, I tapped on the vise-grip bolt away from the wall. Got maybe 1mm of movement after 10 minutes of tapping, it was still stuck! I got a flat nail bar. Drove the screw more into the cartridge, and carefully pried on the screw with the nail bar against the valve body! Finally it came out! I looked inside, a small piece of plastic and an o-ring were still stuck inside one of the valve seat ports! The remaining part was easy to pull out, then I cleaned the round ports with a wire brush, and flushed the debris out. Wow! What a mission that was! Thanks for your video! I wish I stumbled on it beforehand, then I would've been more careful not to brake the cartridge in half! Lol!

    My shower head was leaking but I replaced the seals and springs first, which are located under the white cover. He accidentally removed the white cover when he was trying to remove the entire cartridge. Replacing the seals and springs stopped the dripping, which can save you the hassle of trying to remove the cartridge, which is difficult. I keep a pack of these seals and springs on hand as I have multiple Delta faucets in the house.

    Mine valve was stuck too. My brother the plumber advised me to place channel locks on the brass end and use that to help me to rock the valve side to side. Came off pretty easily then. My only issue was that the handle didn't fit as closely to the valve stem as it did before. Checking on that....

      Had the same issue with my handle set screw.....was frozen solid thanks to the fact Delta doesn't put any kind of rubber stopper on the access hole, so water gets in. I tried to drill it out, but in the end, just ended up snapping the handle off the Delta Cartridge and had to replace it. When I re-installed it, I used some plumbers grease on the set screw threads. Hopefully that helps the next time the cartridge needs to be replaced.

      @@myssnoel8496 I had the same issue and ended up snapping off the top of the replacement cartridge to get the handle off. Try reversing the drill direction as well, while pushing into the set screw to see if that will back the screw out (as opposed to drilling forward/clockwise). Good luck and don't forget to grease the new set screw when you put the handle back on....so hopefully not as difficult the next time.

    My hex screw in the handle was corroded in. Had to use Lime Away but even then I had to work it a lot to get it to loosen. Finally I was able to get it out. I cleaned and lubricated everything after that. To get the valve out, I helped it along with slight prying with a screwdriver. What I did differently than you was that I only replaced the seals and springs in the valve rather than buying a new valve. But, anymore, replacing the valve isn't much more expensive than the seal and springs kit at Amazon.

      Well that's good to know because I'm having a bitch of a time trying to get the handle off right now since ours has been leaking quite a bit for the last 2 months. But like yours the handle is super corroded and I can't get a hex screw in there.

    So I just spent a few hours doing this. I seen you struggle to get the back half of the cartridge out. then the video jumps ahead and then you pop it right out. I had limited tools with me but managed to get the back half out after I twisted it back and forth with bigger channel locks than you had, got my allen wrench stuck in back like a hook in between the 2 blue legs, clamped a vice grip to the allen wrench, and whacked the vice grips about 35 times with a hammer while taking brakes to twist on it. I'd like to see the tough part that you cut out.

    • @BusyBeeLiving
      @BusyBeeLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you got creative with yours! I wish I caught mine on camera but unfortunately my grip slipped and I knocked over the tripod and damaged my camera in the processes, losing that footage. I was able to get mine out by slowly twisting it back and forth. Luckily, afterwards I was able to get the camera back up and running, but it’s one of the tough things making these types of videos, once you lose the footage there’s really no going back. Thanks for watching and sharing, hopefully this can help others out.

      There must be some corrosion not allowing it to release. You have to lightly work it back and forth to break that seal. Be very delicate with this to not damage it. Sometimes a little we-40 or pb blaster can help. Just test a small area with that first to make sure it doesn’t damage the handles finish, but from my experience I haven’t had it do that yet.

      The joys of doing plumbing jobs is that there's always something that won't come free. Try some pb blaster on it and see if that loosens it up. Just be sure not to strip the screw itself or you'll be looking to have to drill it out and that is something you really want to avoid!
