The arithmetic used to calculate the score is a way to force the player to capture stones of the same color. Two green stones are better than one red plus one yellow. That is the purpose of the strange rule.
Really interesting scoring. Flavourwise it would make sense to get the scores of both neighbouring players, but you of course have very little control over the options the player before you has. In a different kind of game, however, it would be interesting for everyone to get, say, half of each of your neighbours' scores. You could then really do a kind of altruism as a strategy.
I asked this question because I don't think it's possible to play with 2 people, because if you follow the rules, player A's score will be equal to A+B, and player B's score will also be equal to A+B. So there would always be a draw, unless it's a 2-player variant. So I think this game is suitable for 3 to 4 players.
@@ToysFun-zy1dy YES BUT your score is your score in that case - no adding the Good Neighbor's score to your own. You're right - the game would always be a tie.
Love to see Twixt in the background! What an unappreciated gem!

Very strategic the way to score. I prefer the name VELENO = Poison; it is much more appropriate.

@@ToysFun-zy1dyAdapt it to two players by NOT being a good neighbour.
I.e. don't add the other player's score to yours.
Call it:
"Selfish b'stard"
Adapt it to two players by NOT giving your score to the other player.
Call it "selfish bar-steward"
