This is a great game. I got it when I bought my NES. I didnt give it a chance for years since I didn't know what to do, but eventually sat down, played it and beat it. It's so unique in gameplay, and every level feels different and offers it's own challenges. To me, it's probably a top 50 or top 75 game for the NES and I don't say that lightly as someone who played hundreds of games for the system.
That game was hard back in the day. I remember being mad it had nothing to do with Street Fighter. It's also funny to look back at games that thought 2010 was the future.
The weird thing is I'm pretty sure this came out _before_ Street Fighter 2 (which is the first one most people played). This game literally could've been many people's first exposure to the Street Fighter franchise... which is weird when you think about how we look at the game now. We look at it and we're like "wtf this has nothing to do with street fighter", but if Street FIghter 2010 was your first game, you would've been looking at Street Fighter 2 and saying the same thing
I've always liked the look of this game (some of the best, almost 16-bit background graphics on the NES) but it's brutally hard, so this was impressive. One of the few really hard NES games that I beat back in the day without a Game Genie. No way I could today.
When I was in first grade and told kids in class about this game, they thought I was lying, and that the only Street Fighter games were the ones from the arcade. Debatable whether they missed out.
Debatable for sure. The controls will filter most people. They take a good while to get a grasp on. Even after doing this I still can’t say that these are good controls. They are awkward. That said I eventually got pretty used to them and if you can get over that the game becomes quite a lot of fun.
Man, my stepbrother found this game at a comics store like 29 years ago. We all got pretty good at it, but no 4 of us brother ever beat the final boss. I've been watching you and James since forever ago, so I did love his episode. Anyways, this is fun for me to watch because you're a friggin' wizard at this game. I bow to your superior skills, Sir Mike, the Brave.
I feel like this is actually a pretty good game. It was made when Capcom was at its peak for titles on the nes. The only thing that makes it weird is that it's related to the street fighter franchise. If it wasn't for that, this game would be a lost classic.
I just wanted to say thank you Mike. I'm a little late to the game, but you mentioned Cuphead n one of your videos awhile back. I ended up buying it a few weeks ago n it literally became one of my favorite games. Im one boss battle away from achieving the Divine Relic!😂 Thank you again, cuz if I didnt hear about how much you liked it, I would have never of bothered. Keep up the great content n Keep on Gamin'
I only heard of this game for the first time a couple days ago when I saw the ad in an old Conan comic then realized I had the ROM on my NES mini. I tried it and did not get far.
That AVGN episode was solid back in the day, so much so that it sorta overshadowed the game. I barely remembered much about it afterwards. Nice to see that the game is definitely worth a play after all these years.
Fantastic run, Mike. It would be awesome if you made a video talking about your current streaming setup. Most videos on TH-cam talk about capturing the modern stuff, obviously. I'm a noob with some old consoles (Famicom DS, NES, MS, Genesis, PC Engine, SNES, N64) and very little knowledge about how to do a decent stream. Not trying to be annoying, mad respect over the years.
I really appreciate that you upload to YT Mike. Also: If someone locked you in a small cinderblock room with no windows and wouldn't let you leave until you beat a specific game, what would be the worst game they could pick for you?
Congratulations on the 1cc run of this and beating Talespin! I was about to give you an exact explanation on how to defeat the final boss of the latter but you did it. The game does eat your inputs randomly. By the way, in your variety stream you were in the very last section of Insector X. The final boss was right after that. You can do it Mike, good luck!
Me and my older brother figured all the strats by ourselves back in the day, good memories of me him and my sister playing this shit together. He was the first one to beat it, i followed it a couple months later. Only game that tops this on NES is megaman 6
I only discovered this game thanks in part to the old avgn episode on the subject. despite the mostly negative review - I recall that you mentioned that the game was ultimately worth one's time - I acquired a copy, and loved the hell out of it. kinda interesting to see that Capcom actually had a pretty well thought out combat system for a game with only two buttons. I definitely prefer it to the likes of Final Fight, which I find to be a bit more thoughtless. in general, I think I prefer 2d sidescrolling action to belt scrollers -- even if there are some out there that are worth playing: Denjin Makai 1/2, AvP, Punisher, etc. Definitely check out BioForce Ape(NES), Nosferatu(SNES), Ninja Warriors Again (SNES) -- you introduced me to Hagane, so I only mention it for others reading here. For modern stuff, I 100% endorse Aces Wild, & BOTH versions on Colin Boll; phenomenal sidescrolling action, & Fight n Rage for belt scrolling.
Thanks Mike and great job getting through Street fighter 2010. I hope you James do another James and Mike Monday episode it's been a minute since you guys did a episode together.
Mike love your content always been following since the beginning gof your streaming career and avgn start can u do a extremely hard Zelda one randomizer soon. Those are so good and u can max the settings out to be harder than ones you've done in past. Just a suggestion from a long time fan and Zelda lover and Zelda randomizer lover plus when u do the randomizer there just something special bout those streams
i cant get over the oddity that is this game. The forced connection (no real connection?) to SF, climbing up pillars of liquid, eyeball monster that creates pillars of stone from it's biology, etc. What kind of drugs were they taking???
Yeah I played this game for many hours and beat it fairly well. And guess what, I still have absolutely no idea what this game is supposed to be about.
I remember only seeing this listed in a magazine and couldn’t believe there was a street fighter for the NES. such a terrible surprise when I was able to rent it.

1 CC Run of Street Fighter 2010...that is probably still more than most gamers would ever hope to accomplish with this game. To be honest, I do feel like I gained an idea from your practice runs in regards to my own video game playing (at least as far as platformers with limited continues are concerned): pinpointing out problem spots and getting better at them through repeated practice runs...I know that should be plainly obvious but I feel like I was in the past too focused on forcing my way through and relying on dumb luck sometimes to make it through. I will try this new approach when I try to beat Strider on Sega Genesis at the moment. Still think that the final part of this game is mostly made difficult due to the time limit not being refilled. It can be done but it makes it really nervewracking to have to be on the lookout for the timelimit while shooting and jumping away. He wanted to do it at the time because it was actually 2010. There are some bad aspects to this game but I don’t think its a bad game. It’s actually a very fun game. The controls can be rough to get the hang of for sure. They are not intuitive and I think thats kinda bad. Ans I don’t like all the load screens between stages like “target vs ken”. I wish they would have just cut those screens. Other than that though I think this is a solid title.
