I think you’re 100% right about how this won’t sell well and that consequently, it will end up making SE think that “no one cares about Xenogears anymore” and will start scaling back merch. Sad!
@@ZX-GearMaybe, but I’m pretty sure Takahashi is no longer interested in pursuing Xenogears any longer. So at most we’d just be getting ports of it on whatever company it would theoretically get sold to’s virtual console.
@@ZX-Gear Honestly, I'm fine with any remake of the game, even if it sucks. I just want to see them do *something* with this IP. I've always had the philosophy that, even if a remake is objectively worse than the original, it doesn't erase the original's existence. Majora's Mask 3D is a great example of this.
@willbill6942 Unless the old versions gets delisted that is. Yeah. That old way of thinking is sadly outdated. Thank George Lucas for going back to improve his OG Star Wars Trilogy for that. It is next to impossible now to find the old theatrical cuts now especially in modern physical media
I mean, this is the same company that partnered with Fender guitars to make an FF14 themed stratocaster (with a matching pick set). This is about as surprising as the sky being blue.
Like for many, Xenogears is my favorite game of all time, but I personally refuse to purchase any of the merch. I don't have a PS1 (though I still have my copy of the game), but the game is still available to me through unofficial means, and if Square Enix were to ever make it available through official means, I would gladly purchase the game again. The FOMO for merch, however, means absolutely nothing to me, and the outrageous prices for merch for a game that is receiving absolutely no attention for the game itself makes the prices even more infuriating. The only Xenogears merch that I've ever purchased (for ~$60) was the unofficial English version of Perfect Works, and I would have also gladly given Square Enix that $60 (not $600!) for an official English version of Perfect Works.
It really is such an SE moment when they see poor sales of anything they release, and then blame the product, instead of realizing it's their own fault. I even did a bit of research on luxury watches and found you can buy actual luxury watches for the same price as the 2000 USD one. So out of touch and nonsensical.
Dude, the Form-Ism situation is far worse. They’ve been doing jewelry and luxury watches for ages now. But the pricing on the Form-Ism is absurd. A 20cm figure with some bits of diecast costing more than high quality 1/6 figures from the likes of Hot Toys or InArt? THAT’s what can tank the merch for Xenogears….
You bring up an excellent point. Bandai's Soul of Chogokin line also comes to mind. You spend a lot, but you get big mech figures that has a lot of die cast metal. Xenogears merch being so much more expensive than it should be is because Square knows they can get away with these stupid prices. I also don't have much confidence in their Bring Arts line, what with 2B having QC issues, to the point of needing a v2 very fast. V2 2B still had QC issues, like her high heels breaking, for a figure that costed 100 USD.
YEAH this is Out and Out Greed! There Is LITERALLY NO REASON FOR SQUARE ENIX TO SELL MERCHANDISE FOR AN ALMOST 30 YEAR OLD GAME! THAT THEY NEVER REMASTERED!! THEY NEVER Even Focused on it! Maybe the watches are an elaborate money-laundering scheme. I'm personally shocked at that new 20cm Weltall figure that sells for 36,000 yen.
