I remember going into some head shop store in Poughkeepsie back into 80's or 70's and Johnny was standing in front of a mirror trying on a black full length cape and my buddy standing in total awe . going oh fuck thats johnny Winter. I;m pretty sure he lived in Hyde Park around that time. Many years later i got to hear him play in small club in Middlehope ny on his birthday..iws just a few feer away it had to be my most unforgettable show in my 70 years .Thank you Johnny RIP. and that goes for Leslie West to.

What a machine Johnny Winter was. With an assortment of so many amazing chops, he was like a magician pulling tricks out of a hat when he'd solo. Not to mention that blinding speed he was known for, Incredible! I can't tell you, how many times I saw him rock the house to its knees.

Saw Johnny at the Chance around August 14, '88. Another one of my heroes, Roy Buchanan, didn't make it to the show...Johnny rocked his tribute. RIP Roy and Johnny...

I was at that show, 20 years old and full of wonder! Johnny was brilliant. Thank you for posting this! I was in my second year at Newpaltz college, sitting so close to Johnny, it was amazing! I'm totally blind, now 49 years old and playing guitar in a little rock and roll band, but I'll always remember that night!

I saw him in Rhinebeck during a snowstorm. Only 20 or 30 people showed because of the weather so we got to watch him from 10 ft away. He was on his Lazer. As a guitarist, I watched him very closely. He played for around 90 minutes and NEVER MISSED ONE NOTE. I was amazed at the control over every effect they came out with. I've been to a lot of concerts but never saw anything as good.

THE GREATEST LEAD OF ALL TIME ON THIRD DEGREE BUILDS TO AN INCREDIBLE CRESCENDO AND THEN PUFF.....A GLITCH IN THE TAPE ( somewhere around 47:00) JUMPS IT TO THE VOCAL....AHHHHHH.......YOUGOTTABEFUCKINGKIDDINGME.....TRUE BUM LUCK......that being said.....this is hands down his absolute best 80's performance....flawless....unadulterated wailin'....the telling sign is during " warm-up jam "....the instrumental onslaught that Winter always started shows with to get his fingers moving....he was already on fire.....screaming.....this show buries the whole Johnny Winter Bootleg series...for years I was always a fanatic for the Captured Live Floyd Radford period....but if anyone thought Johnny was going to rest on his laurels in the 80's as a pure bluesman they had another thing coming....

Yeah, I was there and taped it. Great, great, set. Johnny always rocked out at The Chance. My buddy was doing the lights and I taped it from the light board so the unit was stationary. I used a Sony thing which was the step below a D-6; a good unit.

Kiloh Smith Kiloh, wasn't this the show where Edgar opened up for Johnny?

Terry Taillon By the way, my best friend who attended Newpaltz with me at that time had a D6 recording walkman. We recorded everything with that machine! One hell of a tape deck!

J Chandler I was at this show....I saw him many times in the 80's.....this is one continuous show....first of all...the bootlegger must have moved the Mic to change the sound....unfortunately he butchered one of the best slow blues leads of all time....secondly.....Winter always shredded for a good 40 or 50 minutes and then switched to open tuned slide guitar for a killer slide assault....he was touring behind Third Degree....thats why the slide jam begins with Mojo Boogie.....

The Yellow Rose of Texas with the state flower being yellow Roses. Listening to Slim Harpo and Taj Mahal gave me a feel for the bluegrass gritty no holds barred guitar riffs and virtuosity of Johnny Winter. Read Pierre Teilhard De Chardin Spirit of Fire by Ursula King. Philosopher Edouard LeRoy and Valdmir Vernadsky geochemist hypothesis of the noosphere a compendium of universal knowledge akin to Akashaic Records. God Bless and Stay Safe
