Contrary to a few other's comments, i think you picked the perfect music for your video. It adds to the "nighttime" ambience. Im a dark or nighttime photographer also, for all the reasons you stated in your video. Great job.
Very good moments of visual harmony, as I'd call it, where is all comes together. In regard to tricks shots, and special visual effects, I can work if not overdone, but once seen the effect wears off over time. The magical moment is precious and rare, so yes, you shoot fast and must be prepared at all times. One must be prepared to kick themselves when the do the image wrong, or you are a simply out of position -- that's life. But when you get the gift shot, you do say yes! Yes! Your video is well done. Thank you, Loren
Okay. This video gave me an idea so I’ll try some night-time street photography. I’ll try to get to where I’m thinking of this coming weekend, if the weather holds. Thanks Andrew. Always fun to watch your videos.
Nice video with great tips! I love the way you anchored many of the compositions around lamp posts and islands of light in the dark. Nice use of music as well. It worked well with this video where it helped the story of you venturing into street photography at night.
Another great video Andrew. This is an area I've never tried as I long in a rural town which doesn't provide many opportunities. However, I'll try to give it a go next time I'm in Sydney. As for your images, I loved the b&w one of the guy on the bridge with the rim light.
Thanks so much! Sometimes smaller towns can provide great opportunities (I grew up in a small rural town in the UK, though I imagine it's very different in Australia!). Definitely give it a try in Sydney though! Thanks for watching
Re: 4:30 I like the black and white one too! And I like the portaloo shot without the person because the one with the person doesn’t have enough contrast against the backdrop
Oh dear, I really enjoyed this video.❤❤❤ I am really not that out-in-the-city-at-night-kinda-guy, but these images are really inspiring and provide a compelling reason to try it out. 😮😮😮
Thank you, I'm glad you liked them! To be honest nor am I usually. I prefer to be home, warm and dry and ideally in bed. But it's definitely worth trying it out from time to time, as the photos can be great!
I love night photography and have a similar minimalistic view. I would have love to see the metadata on your images as you showed them. I'm always intrigued by what settings you use. I know you briefly mentioned it at 8:00 but would love to see it for each photo. Love the video.
Very good varied photos and good advice! The porta loos I think either or, the others similar, good all around composition and a well put together video!
Some spectacular images to be sure. Be interested to hear what gear you take with you on one of your "walkabouts" and whether this differs between a day walk and a night walk. Cheers.
Now I’m planning on heading into Galway this evening to give this a whirl. I’ve been experimenting with lots of different types of photography over the last few months and it’s been such a learning curve and creative process doing things I never would normally have considered. Mostly your fault Andrew😂 great video and thanks for the ideas.
@@AndrewLanxonPhotography well I figure I need a nifty fifty after all that. But I made do with what I had. That video had great pointers so I’ll be looking forward to tinkering about with the results on the laptop tomorrow. Thanks again for all the posts.
@AndrewLaxonPhotography I really enjoy your production. The music caught my ear, but the credit in your description doesn't match? The track in your vid is called All is Truth by Chad Lawson, if possible could you let me know where you purchased the license? Thanks Edit, I think I found it at Musicbed?
Nice video...How do you choose the aperture in the night? I mean, is there any particular reason not to prefer 1.8 to 8 or 8 to 11, in case of tripod ?
Thanks! Mostly it's wide open to let in more light and use faster shutter speeds when hand held. For long exposures on a tripod it was about f8 for maximum sharpness.
Not really, possibly because the lens was quite small. Also if helps that it was night time and in busy areas so I didn't really stand out much. Still, there were some people I didn't feel comfortable photographing so I kept my camera hidden.
It depends on a lot of factors really, even just down to how steady your hand is. Some people will lean on something for extra stability, or use the strap as a sort of stabiliser. For just IBIS though (with no lens stabilisation) I find half a second about right. If I'm using a stabilised lens as well then I've been able to do multiple seconds hand held before now.
Good feedback, though personally I was quite keen on this music! Thank you very much for watching it though, I hope the next one will be better for you!
Great video. Has given me some inspiration to get out on the street at night. Thanks 🙏🏼
What a great video!! Love your work..

You're amazing. Just want to put that out there.
Complimenti! Grazie! ❤️🇮🇹❤️
Love your video. Thank you for sharing your tips. ❤❤❤❤ Beautiful work… I also love low key photography and definitely learn from your tips. ❤❤❤
Beautiful.
Really nice to see these shots of the city I lived in for the first 48 years of my life.
I really enjoyed the video, congrats. Not only getting a chance to see your great compositions, but also your thinking behind them. Hope to see more.

Love the way your sounds blend with the images.
Thank you!
Absolutely love your work in this video….truly inspirational…thank you
Thank you for watching!
Great shots 👏🏻🤟🏻
Thanks Nick!
Great, the black-and-white photo's tonal range is nice, enjoying watching your video.
Thanks!

Wonderful video with awesome music and great shots!
Thanks so much!
Love your last two posts; great change of pace!
Thanks very much!

Long exposure shots are compelling, thanks.
Thanks!
Re: 4:30 I like the black and white one too! And I like the portaloo shot without the person because the one with the person doesn’t have enough contrast against the backdrop
Thanks! I think that's why I like it too. I think the figure makes it overly complicated as a scene whereas there's a nice simplicity without it.
Excellent tutorial. Going to try all of these tips when I go to Dublin in a few weeks. Thank you!
Cant wait to go back to Edinburgh and do some Streetphotography
I hope you get to soon!
Great video. Love the images. And without silhouette. Much intriguing empty.
Thank you!
Outstanding and very formative, keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks!

Superb images, Andrew!

nicely done
Really good work in black and white and excellent tips; really helpful ❤and succinct

thank you for the idea🙏👏👏

Great shots! I prefer the shot without the person. I really like the feeling in that shot.
Thanks, I think I prefer it too, despite waiting ages to get someone in the shot!

I APOLOGISE FOR NOTHING! Good luck in Galway. Love it there. Hope you get some good stuff and have a pint or two for me!

@@AndrewLanxonPhotography BTW I prefer the portaloos without person but the two lamps with the figure (espcially the one with you in it).
what camera / lens were used ? do you have an indication of settings used SS / aperture /iso? just curious ;)
I wanna shoot at night but walkin around in Chicago at night "where the action is", is QUITE RISKY!
Did you find people noticing you with your R5? I'm thinking a rangefinder would be less noticeable but???
Not really, possibly because the lens was quite small. Also if helps that it was night time and in busy areas so I didn't really stand out much. Still, there were some people I didn't feel comfortable photographing so I kept my camera hidden.
Is half a second handheld about the limit on the R5 with IBIS?
It depends on a lot of factors really, even just down to how steady your hand is. Some people will lean on something for extra stability, or use the strap as a sort of stabiliser. @@AndrewLanxonPhotography Ok, interesting, thanks. I too like Zeiss Classic lenses.
Did you use an ND-filter for the long exposure pictures?
No I didn't need one in the end. It was dark and I was shooting at about f18 so it naturally gave me a shutter speed of multiple seconds.
Great Set of images none the less.

omg Żabka sklep. That's Polish neocolonialism...

The music distracts a lot from the excellent content
Good feedback, though personally I was quite keen on this music! Thank you very much for watching it though, I hope the next one will be better for you!
I found it ok, perhaps lower the volume a tad
No it doesn’t.
music is on point imo
Hard disagree. Without the music this would have been a snoozefest (maybe not that bad but the music really helps).
