For a minute I thought there was a mixup with my feeds! It’s awesome discovering that others share a passion for kites. My wife and I fly kite ballet in competition. Now just for fun but kites and music go hand in hand. Keep the wind at your back, the color in the sky and the music in your ears!
This brings back some fun memories from college days. One of my buddies was into kites, and had some flexifoils, as well as the (old school) triangular Skynasaurs arranged in trains. We'd go out and fly them pretty often, and on a windy day, they could definitely yank you off your feet!
I remember when I was in Elementary school, the Green Giant vegetable company had an offer for a traditionally shaped kite as a giveaway if you submitted so many labels from cans of their vegetables. The kite was 5 feet tall by 4 feet wide. I was so excited when it arrived in the mail, and I took it to the school yard to fly it. It soared pretty high, but I didn't use a strong enough kite string. The string broke while it was flying high. I never found it
I have a Skymonkey Airtwister (just the 1.3 metre one) with dual lines. Very easy to fly and a lot of fun. It's my first kite as an adult. When I was a kid my brother (RIP) and I had a Golden Eagle kite, that we called Goldie and I loved it! It was an old fashioned wooden frame diamond style, with the Eagle printed on it- shaped kites were pretty rare then. One day, after having it a couple of years it got stuck in tree and would not come loose. The tree was too tall and thin to climb and eventually we had to cut the strings- and our losses- and leave it there. It stayed in that tree, mostly hidden by foliage, for about 6 years!
I love kites! I started with a rigid triangular stunt kite and that was fun if a bit too twitchy and fast. Then I get a Flexifoil (the one you can stack) and was totally hooked, absolutely love flying that! Pulls nicely, looks good and still love that I can launch it from the ground on my own! I am looking at one of those revolution stunt kites, they look so much fun!
Have you ever tried making your own (edit: just saw that you did :) )? I designed a built a few trick kites way back, learned how to sow because of it :) Really good fun! I remember wanting a Flexifoil (the ones with a spar) back then. I never had the money for them though. I remember getting dragged across rainy beaches in storms by a stack of Speedwings. Fond memories! I still fly kites every now and then.. I have a Twister 5sqm that is great for low wind days (I have a short video of a nearly windless evening on my profile).
yeah, the stackers seemed expensive back in the day, probably about 100 quid iirc. never owned one, but was jealous of my mates who did. some of the revolutions I'm looking at now cost over 400... :)
Hi woody, I never knew you were also into kites. I used to fly a lot back in the 90s - on Bowleaze Hill, Weymouth. Did a bit of team flying as well. Mainly flexifoils, but also deltas and revolutions. When the wind died down I used to juggle and Diablo - very compatible hobbies! I’ve still got the kites, in fact I took my daughter out a few weeks back. What I really enjoy now is single line kite fighting. The kites only cost a few pounds, as they’re only made of paper and split canes. Plus nearly as manoeuvrable as twin/four line kites! Drop us a line if/when you pop back to the UK and I’ll give you a fight!
hi rog, that must be boggo right? i was always envious of your flexifoils, i remember you buying one or busting one out at weymouth kite festival! never understood the point ot single lines, but do realize how popular they are.
@@WoodyPianoShack yeah it’s Boggo! I know what you mean about static line. Fighters are a completely different kettle of fish though, as they are naturally flat and unstable. Putting tension on the line creates the dihedral and they shoot off in whatever direction they were pointing at the time. Get a few up together and things get messy pretty quickly!
@@WoodyPianoShack I’d totally forgotten about needing to count the spins. It’s even worse with rev’s as they can do that neat propellor trick. Just remembering the controls getting tighter and tighter and wondering whether we should be going clockwise or anti clockwise to reset. Houston, we have a problem…
We also used to do this cool trick with the rev by completing a total 360. You get the kit to the far edge of the wind window, then leg it as fast as you can so that the kite keeps on going round. Obvs the lighter the wind the better!
@WoodyPianoShack I think it's in either back of double garage or shed (if shed, might not be very well though 😬). Got me now Woody!, will have to fish it out now! 😄.........
Hello Woody, you gotta try paragliding now that your on the coast , join a local club , you'd love it , you're half way there flying big kites ....give it a go 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
@@WoodyPianoShack Woody ... It's safer than you think , if you join a club then one of the guys will take you up on a tandem wing , the guys only fly in calm light breezes and float on thermals , it's super quite too and landing is a doddle too , doing a tandem flight means you get to video it from above , great content for your channel too plus you'd love it , Google your local club ... You'll see videos on their site or search TH-cam for paragliding in your area and remember....you only die once ....lol 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

"kite ballet" I did not know that was a thing, how awesome! you using something like a Rev for that?
The big orange kite. Looked as if you could kite surf with it. Great collection. 🙂
you totally could, just make sure not to crash it into the water.
Very interesting!

I have the HQ 2.1m Symphony Beach 2, it's great fun. It cost me £40 from Amazon UK in 2010, sadly currently unavailable.

trees is where each and every kite goes to die! i started on the rhombus kites too, in the UK we all had Peter Powell stunters!

i regret never buying a stacker, and now they don't make them any more. strange because it was a great classic!
@@WoodyPianoShack i regret not buying more of them to stack !
