I can never imagine that the issue of working mother was a serious social debate back in the 80s, when society still considered mums should always be a full-time housewife. I was born in the late 90s and raised with both of my parents working full time. I agree mums are generally better at doing household chores than dads, but the modern economy no doubt requires the active participation of both sexes to function efficiently.

I really love seeing old shows like this! The show was good overall but the film on childcare was way to long like a documentary, best thing was the supermarket Vs the market!
I presume they opted not to show the Granada frontcap at the start as well, which were still briefly being used by some ITV regions when This Morning started?

Granada were crapping their pants about potentially losing their franchise after several decades of heavy Manchester bias, so thought, "quick, we better do something in Liverpool". Needless to say once the danger had passed this whole charade was abandoned and This Morning was moved out of the city.
Convenience food getting more popular. I was raised in 70s & 80s and my mother and friends' mothers cooked from scratch. The portions were smaller and also sweet things were more of a treat. We also moved our bodies more, before computer life really kicked in.

Nonsense we must respect our youngers after all, this is the first generation ever where the youngers tell the olders what to do. We must respect Gen Z they are "clearly" more experienced- and more intelligent than their elders.

Short answer is because Granada were a Manchester based company and it became expedient for them to do so.

My sister died due to measles. Everyone reacts to things differently.
