I'd say the one big downfall of the Tello is that it does not have onboard storage for photos and video. Since the only record option is via a wifi signal you can easily end up with a loss of image quality. If they came out with a new version that could take an SD card I'd snap one up in a second.
I agree, videos can be choppy, but for stills photography, there is no problem. I hope the Tello 2 will, at the same price, have internal microSD recording instead of over WiFi.
I have both drones and love them equally, they are both suited for different purposes as you showed in the video!! The Tello I do for interior and when in crowded areas with multiple soft targets around, the Spark I use for wilderness or larger scaled exterior purposes. Also, if you're not satisfied with the resolution of the Tello's camera...Insta360 Go is an awesome accessory that fits right on top and is barely noticable when flying "I use this option a lot"!! Bought the Tello yesterday, and as a "first time" drone flyer, I had no problem using it, even indoor, Is it perfect? NO Is it good value? Well, I will recuperate the money by not going to the pub for a week: Is it good at what it does? Hell YES.

Tello photos are amazingly good considering what it is. I will also say that I can literally throw the Tello in the air, shoot photos are video and land it in my hand before anyone really ever knows it's there. It is a real shame that they did not include an SD card in the camera as the video recorded back to the phone is not very dependable with skipped frames, etc.

This is apples on earth to oranges on mars. The price point of 1 is like 4x the other one. To put it in perspective, the spark uses the same optical sensor as its big brother, the mavic air, can accomplish 80% of the things the mavic can, and is only like 1/2 the price. The little RYZE tello is comparable ONLY in still images, its night and day when you realise the potential of mechanical image stabilization (2:57)

I bought the Tello a few weeks ago and it is a great little drone. It is the cheapest drone available with a useful camera and some smart tech to make it flyable. All the other makes are so hard to fly with such bad cameras there is no point buying them. Having said that, because my primary use for the drone was to photograph my offroad tours, I soon met the limitations of the Tello and bought a Spark last week.The Spark is amazing and I don't think I will need to upgrade for a long time. As the video says, the Tello is great if you want to take pics of a reasonable quality, quickly and saves you having to mess around with the controler and other annoyances that comes with the Spark. Good comaprison, there is a good market for both of these drones and I am still trying to decide if there is good reason to keep my Tello or sell it.
Using spark and thinking about Mavic Air. But I agree, Spark is good and it is not so big. Still looks like a toy. Compare it with Phantoms? Nobody takes Spark seriously and I tried it on the square. Only think is, it could be less louder.
At this moment i am spending my holidays on the Phillipines and i brought my Tello. Yesterday i did a little test flight but when i flew it up a couple of meters it got caught in the wind and it was blown into an high voltage cable. I thought this would be the end of my Tello. But after retreiving it, it surprisingly had hardly any damage and all electric functions still seems to work fine. I wonder if expencive drones would survive such a crash. I´d say not having a onboard storage saved my video captures and is in my opinion a benefit rather then a downfall.
The tello is an absolute low end beginner drone for newbies, the spark is a flagship for both newbies and experienced and the mavic mini is a midranger for experienced.
how about doing a video on a windy day and range test its under $100 for the tello so when it flies away u can buy another one has no probs with my spark has 6 batteries
Actually Tello can fly up to 30 meters up in the air, you can change the limit in the app settings. It also counts the vertical distance from the point of take off, not the sea level. So if you are on the mountain, you can fly up higher.
FWIW, Beach camera has a good bundle with controller and extra battery for around $450. Mine comes in Monday. I have a Mavic Air, but could not miss the price. On DJI's site they have the Spark and Controller combo for $399.

@DronesGator the spark is 200 times better in terms of range (not a hyperbole Tello has 100m range and spark has 2000m range) also sure it does 720p but the colors and shakiness make it only reasonable when seeing if your gutters need cleaning. And 80 bucks to see your gutter is quiet a lot. I would definitely agree there is a considerable price difference however you claimed that the spark was worse when it comes to getting in a crash... I would agree this drone is great for kids as a toy but if you want to be able to use it outside of your backyard, the spark used to be the way to go. Now its the Mavic mini that's taking over lol. Just out of curiosity if you happen to see this, what's your thoughts on the Mavic air 2? To me it seems like its too good to be true. I have never heard of a 48 MP drone for under 2000 let alone 1000... I wonder if they will lower the price any further for black friday...if so I might have to get me one.
One problem with the Tello is the motors burn out and DJI just say you've crashed it and you have to pay the price of a new drone to repair it.. I'm fixing mine and selling it for Spark or Spark 2 so I don't have to lug the Mavic Pro with me.
How much do you plan on getting for it? It is a $100 drone as is.....brand new. The Spark Fly More Combo runs around $560...I guess what I am saying is that I do not understand how selling your Tello will make room for a Spark financially.

I am on board now, but if you got the Air and Pro really no need for a Spark to be honest. The Air is close in versatility and does 4k over the Sparks 1080p. To each their own :) Good luck to you.

Yes, a very good toy. Got one for my 10 year old Granddaughter and she loves that she can program it. She has become very good at flying it and using all of its features. If she holds her interest in droning, the Spark will be here Christmas present.

Own both. The Tello is a blast inside and outside, it's super stable (thank DJI) pic, video, and flight time are quite good. I reject the idea that the Tello is a "toy" it's inexpensive but the build quality, features, and stability are something you simply don't find in Toy Grade quads. The cons are the app control and brushed motors (im on my second tello, the first one burned up a motor after about 20 batteries) brushless motors and a controller IMO would make it perhaps the perfect selfie quad.

Great video, still i will most likely upgrade to spark for the gimbal higher res video and photo longer flight time obstacle avoidance and more range. Since its quite an older drone now i can get it used for cheap i left my tello during winter ans when i checked on it after the battery was bloated so much it might as well be a fire hazard. The tello is a great beginner drone for its price and the battery issue is fixed with the spark because it automatically discharges bellow 70% so if anyone is planning to get a tello please remember to unplug the battery after using it and make sure its above 50% and bellow 70 for long storagr
The spark is made to be a mini drone. The tello is made to be a selfie camera without the annoying stick in the photo... It completely depends on what you intend to use the drone for.
Tello is great. Especially for a beginner. You can also fly it in small places and learn slow controls. Its programmable (great fun). If you can master this go for the real thing. So much to discover. I have landed a Syma drone on a parapet during training (my poor control skills at that time). Of course if you have the skills and the certification, nothing beats a full fledged DJI which comes with more responsibilities.

In the us you can find a spark at your local extension office free to use but you must return as you barrowed it. Usually nobody knows what to do with it so chances are nobody will be lining up to use it for five minutes at a time unless you blab about it to everyone else or everyone else in your town/city/county sees this comment

I miss my Tello. Lost it on an island due to the wind. I think that you have go EXTRA careful when you control the Tello. Just a bit of wind and it's gone for good. I think that this is its main limitation. If you check its camera and quality is the best drone around 100$, THE BEST in term of picture quality and video stability as long as it's no wind at all. if there is wind, it's better you keep it flying low.
I just got the tello and I love it I would consider myself a novice pilot being that the only other drones I have flown are the estes proto x and the hubsan h111 which is essentially the same and also had a wl toys v911 heli this is hands down the most stable easy flying drone I have flown it basically flys itself yes you don’t get onboard storage it saves to your phone but so far I have not seen a downside to this I do plan on buying the spark next but for under $100 I paid $79 new on amazon it’s a bargain definitely get it if you are thinking about it
My first drone/toy was the Tello. Bang for bucks, it’s extremely difficult to beat. If you have a Tello and can afford, skip an ‘upgrade’ to the Spark - go straight for a Mavic Pro. If you can afford the Spark as a first drone, get the Spark ‘fly more’ deal. Tello is great, but even with a range extender, control and spare batteries, it cant compete with the Spark.
That’s a steep jump from TELLO to Mav pro… Going from a $100 drone to a $1000 dollar drone is reckless. Unless you have money to burn. These two drones fly nothing alike. My opinion would be to get a Holystone hs470 . Master that then move to the Mav pro
I own the mavic air (MK1) and also Tello...surely, for Professional Pictures/Videos i'm using the Mavic...but for Social Media, Just fly around for fun or Training and travelling, i prefer the Tello...a little Lightroom/Photoshop will make the Pictures Awesome, the Videos are fully acceptable (especially after a little color and light adjustment and with the Mi Repeater) and its sooo easy to put it into your Pocket for travelling...also you can Charge it by usb, don't need an Charger, if you'll crash it, it's not that expansive and so on...for me, much more, than a toy! ;D

Tello is not a good idea ive tried it so laggy camera.. Plus it cant handle wind

Why is the Dron's body so expensive, it has brushed engines that break down for 6 hours of operation? Compare 2 totally different brushed and bruhless motor Tello is expensive toy
In the us you can find a spark at your local extension office free to use but you must return as you barrowed it. Usually nobody knows what to do with it so chances are nobody will be lining up to use it for five minutes at a time unless you blab about it to everyone else or everyone else in your town/city/county sees this comment

I have Tello, Spark and Mavic Air, Tello and Spark is 2 different world!!!!!!!!! for outdoor of course Spark , Spark can fly up to 2.7 km and Tello most is 150 meter

No, just keep the standard camera and it will be good.
I miss my Tello. Lost it on an island due to the wind. I think that you have go EXTRA careful when you control the Tello. Just a bit of wind and it's gone for good. I think that this is its main limitation. If you check its camera and quality is the best drone around 100$, THE BEST in term of picture quality and video stability as long as it's no wind at all. if there is wind, it's better you keep it flying low.
I just got the tello and I love it I would consider myself a novice pilot being that the only other drones I have flown are the estes proto x and the hubsan h111 which is essentially the same and also had a wl toys v911 heli this is hands down the most stable easy flying drone I have flown it basically flys itself yes you don’t get onboard storage it saves to your phone but so far I have not seen a downside to this I do plan on buying the spark next but for under $100 I paid $79 new on amazon it’s a bargain definitely get it if you are thinking about it

This is normal I suppose especially when you power it on and leave it idle for awhile.

My first drone/toy was the Tello. Bang for bucks, it’s extremely difficult to beat. If you have a Tello and can afford, skip an ‘upgrade’ to the Spark - go straight for a Mavic Pro. If you can afford the Spark as a first drone, get the Spark ‘fly more’ deal.
Tello is great, but even with a range extender, control and spare batteries, it cant compete with the Spark.
That’s a steep jump from TELLO to Mav pro… Going from a $100 drone to a $1000 dollar drone is reckless. Unless you have money to burn. These two drones fly nothing alike. My opinion would be to get a Holystone hs470 . Master that then move to the Mav pro
I own the mavic air (MK1) and also Tello...surely, for Professional Pictures/Videos i'm using the Mavic...but for Social Media, Just fly around for fun or Training and travelling, i prefer the Tello...a little Lightroom/Photoshop will make the Pictures Awesome, the Videos are fully acceptable (especially after a little color and light adjustment and with the Mi Repeater) and its sooo easy to put it into your Pocket for travelling...also you can Charge it by usb, don't need an Charger, if you'll crash it, it's not that expansive and so on...for me, much more, than a toy! ;D
