I come from a family of educators on all levels from Pre-school to a Jr. College president and college professors across 7 states. Everyone has the same challenges starting with getting the kids used to being in the classroom again is like "herding cats" to all the things you have been addressing. I love your positive attitude amid all the many challenges! I am hoping too that the spotlight shown during the pandemic on the things that need to be changed will be addressed on federal, state, and local levels to give our teachers the pay, support, and respect they deserve as the professionals they truly are!
I had never heard the belief some people have that “teachers don’t deserve more because they get weekends and summers” until I got to college and I was baffledddd
And to think that Preschool Teachers make less than elementary teachers and if you don’t work for public schools you often work through the summer and the amount still doesn’t add up to the salary of the elementary teachers.
In my opinion, this year is better than last year, because in CA, we were virtual until after Spring Break and then, we were in Hybrid, and some of my students stayed home (we had to do classes in person AND virtual). At least, this year, I have everybody in class, which is so much better. Of course, we have hardships (cleaning duties, extra pick up and drop off duties, help the students catch up...), but it is still better than last year.
This has been an exhausting year, but it great to have students back in person. The digital realm cannot replace analog learning and teaching. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am proud of your passsion that you have for the teaching profession.
Hi Kyle! I am a veteran teacher down here in Texas. After 12 years in the classroom, I recently started grad school for my masters in library science. The downside is that I will only make about $1500 more a year with that extra degree. I am so exhausted in the classroom though. I need something new to help put the joy back in my job. Anywho, I appreciate all of your efforts to bring the issues regarding teaching into the light. It feels very much like our concerns are for the most part completely ignored by the powers that be! Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃💕
Hi Kyle! Ive been following since you started youtube. Last year was my first year teaching and I was seeking someone to relate to. Im an Ohio teacher and COMPLETELY agree when you say this year is harder than last. With it being my second year.. I am losing hope in this being my forever career. Happy Fall Break! So glad to see your success and the important conversations you are starting!
Thank you for bringing all of this to light. I remember being in at least my 5th year of teaching with almost a master’s degree and realizing I had just reached the level where I no longer met the salary level to qualify for help in my state. (Never applied but still). I agree this year has been harder than last year. We were mainly in person both years but the morale is awful this year.
Hello Mr. Kyle Cohen ☺️ Thank you for being outspoken about teaching salaries. I’m currently a student in Texas hoping to graduate Fall 2022 & am nervous about the pay as well. I recently had one of my 1st teaching experiences and needed to go buy the materials for it and it dawned on me... This will be my life huh? Paying out-of-pocket to give my students hands-on /authentic interactions with the content? If teachers would receive an amount somehow calculated per student to alleviate those financial discrepancies, perhaps they’d feel more supported. I know it’ll be yearssssss before actual change happens, especially equally around the country, but all we can have is have hope and support those using their voice! I mean, we are talking about educating our future leaders here right? I would think this conversation would matter more if we thought about it that 😶

I hear this for sure!!
THINGS NEED TO CHANGE!!! I am happy where I am teaching now and the pay is pretty good, but there’s things that need to change.
Funny how us educators get excited over the small things...like a chair! 😉 (Hoping Santa brings me one this year!)
Y'all are telling it like it is and I LIVE for it XOXO
Happy Thanksgiving.
