I purchased the Vanguard boots in February 2021 for $265. The boots that I received have do not have a lugged sole and the Chromexcel Howween leather has a much more premium look than your video seems to show. I am very happy with these boots.
I own a pair of vanguards for a few years now they are really good, I even got a 'second' pair and I have never seen anything that is wrong with the boot and I saved like 50$
I've a very large boot collection that includes multiple boots from brands like Crockett and Jones, Cheaney, Carmina, Trickers, Loake, Barkers, Red Wing, Chippewa, Grant Stone etc. However, though the Thursday's are naturally built down to a price, across more than a dozen pairs of their boots I've found their boots to be good. I've had a few pairs where some leather panels were not the best or (for example) a pair of natural CXL boots where the colour was significantly different on each boot ( a cosmetic issue) but some pairs have become favourites. I actually got rid of a few later pairs because they'd changed the lasts which made them worse (for my feet) but as everyday boots they are pretty good. And if I kick a rock and gouge the leather I won't cry too much unlike some of my other brands. If I have to walk in proper rough conditions I won't be using any heritage boots anyway (not even my Red Wing Sawmills) and will be using Meindl or Scarpa mountaineering boots.
I purchased true to size after 6 month of wear, my Chromexcel Indigo Vanguard boots stretched so much now their way to loose. For my next purchase I’m sizing down a 1/2 size.
I own redwings and Nicks. It’s great to support MITUSA products, but there are definitely products made in Mexico, Europe and Asia’s that are equal in quality. Given the insole is still poron I would buy the Mexico made Thursdays.
I'm not sure about the Vanguards that are made in the US, but the Captains don't even come close to comparing to Red Wings or Nicks. The leather is paper thin, and next to my IRs, the Thursdays look super cheap.
@@wheelsupbardownFirst of all, Thursday boots are supposed to be a casual boot compared to Redwings and Nicks which are leaning more towards work boots. Second, they are priced around $200 and you expect them to feel just as good as the $350 Iron Rangers?😂😂
@@steviewanderer5109 no, but I expect $200 boots made in Mexico to beat Nordstrom rack boots. At $200, I'd go for good factory seconds, Jim Greens, J Crew Kenton, Chippewa, or stretch for Beckett Simonon. I own a pair of Thursday Captains and the leather is comically thin, even when you include the lining. They might look good brand new, but the "patina" I often see posted on Thursdays just looks worn out.
I agree. The wage should ideally be a "living wage" for their country. That's usually significantly lower than American wages, which works out for consumer prices.
Thursdays new best pair is the Black label Challenger boots that was just released. I'm curious to see your reactions to it. Again, thanks for the all videos and content you create.
@@alphaa1xgene I almost ordered a pair this morning but watched a review and the majority of the comments was people saying the last that was used to make that boot wasn't made to have such a high heel so people are getting alot of heel slip with them. I decided to go with some JIM GREEN Numzaan's instead which arrive tomorrow. I went a half size down from what i wear in sneakers so please wish me luck, I hope they fit.
Really like the look of this leather, but the lack of a leather heel stack means I won’t buy this particular model. I have the indigo Vanguards and love them.
Made in the US is very worth it. People don't realize how much of America is abandoned. Many places used to have industries producing things like clothing and steel. Another plus is that our standards of employee treatment are much higher than China and México so keeping your dollar in your community is also supporting human rights. It isn't just pay. Many of these places have little course of action for things like harrassment. I have a sister from an asían country. She was forced by her workplace to give her number to any man that demanded it. Wouldn't fly in America.
I'm not sure that is going to help poor factory workers in these (mainly) South East Asian countries. We need to buy stuff from them at fair rates and fair trade rules that try and prevent exploitation. Most European buyers, after a lot of high profile publicity and campaigns which started a couple of decades ago, now have quite extensive codes of conduct and frequent inspections before contracts are given out. Factories generally have to sign up to these codes of conduct, have good working conditions (healthcare, holidays), good labour rates, safe factories and machinery, fire regulations, low environmental impacts and to limit pollution. sometimes provide community facilities for workers etc. This means costs are higher but the EU/UK already requires products to meet a load of safety requirements anyway so some can be incorporated into routine inspections and testing. Exploitation also works both ways. When Covid came in I know some American companies tried to make their suppliers pay for the stuff they'd produced but which had then subsequently been cancelled. This was under threat of no more contracts if they refused. There was a backlash against these companies (in Europe at least). I'm not saying all exploitation will be stopped but as standards and wages rise (similar to what has happened in China) then exploitation will reduce. Just one more thought. From a European perspective where most people get thirty to forty days paid holiday and it is mandatory to receive a minimum 28 days paid holiday plus separate sick leave, often up to a year, minimum paid maternity leave of three months and often up to a year, three months minimum consultation on firing/redundancy for more than 20 people , strict legislation and rules preventing you firing individuals unless you have evidence and followed various disciplinary procedures and warnings etc. many actually view the USA as a country where workers are exploited. Particularly when your minimum wages are so low relative to the cost of living.
@@UnknownUser-rb9pd As an American, I can claim that we are exploited. Not by the US, but by sweatshop offending countries that undercut our market, then claim we aren't willing to work. We are. We just can't if our jobs are going to sweatshops.
Do you know how long your feet are in inches? I’ve never worn boots, my athletic shoes range from 11.5 to 13 across brands so I’m not really sure which size to go for I feel like I’m a 12.5 usually.
You issued video just now and you are now incorrect as they just releaaed challanger ! Price monster stichdown eith leather tow puf and leather shank:)
Urban wolf club boots are much better quality for a cheaper price. Every Thursday boot that I purchased ive had to return due to sizing. Thursday boots only beats Urban wolf Club in leather selection but, I understand the argument of the made in USA Vanguards, but everything else UWC beats Thursday's.
No. First pair were flawed. Returned them for a replacement pair. They were also flawed. Customer Service actually suggested that I take the replacement pair to a cobbler. I have all of the emails, and pics of both pairs of boots. It was difficult, but they finally sent me a refund. They didn’t post my negative review, either. Love your channel and your passion for boots.
Friends don’t let friends buy Thursdays boots. My American made Thursdays shit the bed after about 7 hours of wear. Took them to the cobbler and he said the only thing worth anything on those boots was the laces, let that sink in, the laces. Don’t waste your money. BTW the leather on these looks super cheap.
I also had issues with my Vanguards. Lots of lose threads in the vamp area which made one of the boots fall apart. I had to take them to a cobler for repair with only 3 months of wear. So much for made in USA.
I like that you show what boots look like on your feet. Gratitude for review.

I own two pairs of Vanguards. A lot of people seem to agree that a half size up from the Captain works for most due to the sleaker last.
