My favorite series of the offseason. Time to leave a really long comment with my thoughts that no one asked for

My thoughts on Da Bears:
First off, Justin’s situation was pretty bad last season. New OC, O-line with two or three holes, no WR1, etc. That said, he currently has bad pocket awareness which is why a lot of his pressures convert into sacks, more so than other QBs. That becomes even worse when you consider his durability issues. As for the rest of the offense, I loved the move for DJ Moore who is a great WR1. The offense looks great (on paper) around Justin. There’s a hole at RT in my mind until Darnell Wright shows his ability at the NFL level, but it’s a good group. That, plus another year in the system and this is officially his “prove it” year. If he is bad as a passer again, there should be no excuses. Don’t pick up his option, just move on.
As for the defense, that defensive line is a massive yikes. I don’t see any of the issues you guys were talking about with stunts and rushing 4 or 5 guys changing because they don’t have anyone I like on that line. The LB core looks great even if I’m not the biggest Edmunds fan, and the secondary should be better with those LBs in front of them. But, again, that lack of pass rush is going to put a ton of pressure on that secondary and I don’t see them handling it that well unless Eddie Jackson returns to All-Pro form.
Floor (Justin still can’t pass and the defense struggles): 5-12
Ceiling (Justin develops and they win all of their easy games): 11-6
Prediction: 9-8
@@Rekcha I agree with almost everything you said except Justin does not have have durability problems he took the most punishment of any qb last year not even close and barely missed any games and could of played the last one but missed on purpose for the tank. And he’s only on his third year so the option is after next year not this one. He does need to improve however especially his pocket awareness. I do agree that pass rush is definitely are biggest weakness but we do have some people with potential that are young and we signed some decent but not even good players for the d line. we need to sign or trade for a d line before the year starts to really have a whole rounded team.

Kind of interested in two players the Bears added during the end of the season Terrell Lewis 2020 3rd pick 84th overall & 2020 3rd pick 77th overall Michael Ojemudia two very talented players that might have a chance of making the Bears roster if their fully healthy.

How do these guys know so much about all these teams!!? Amazing level of analysis per minute of content. Def > 90% of all Bears media who only report CHI. Sad state for the rest and I appreciate the objective insight on rival teams without all the typical the fluff & narratives.

Is there a stat to track the average time to pressure on a QB? Time to throw is a good but misleading stat because of mobile quarterbacks like Fields so I would think a stat to track how long it took for someone to break the line would be more reliable.

Best I can hope for is something like an 8-9 season where we win 3 of our last 5 and head into the offseason with momentum, still lots of draft capital and cap space, and compete for the NFC title in 2024.
If Justin does not take a large leap as a passer consistency wise, I can’t justify sticking with him when we have two first round picks and a loaded ‘24 class.
Especially if youre in the position to take Caleb Williams, you cant trade out again. Hes too good not to take and youd likely get a 1st from a team who thinks they can fix Fields
Finally a realistic fair take on fields. It’s the season to decide if he is great but was held back by a bad team or coaching. Or if he is just an flashy qb that overall doesn’t have the right tools.
The Eagles had one of the Top-2 WR duos in all the NFL with The Best o-line. Do you think that Jalen Hurts only throws 5 fewer TDs if he's on the Bears? Because that's essentially what you just said. I'll add that the Bears were also last in separation by receivers.
Everything rather indicates that Fields is élite just for not throwing more INTs than TDs under these circumstances.
@@choosecarefully408 I have no idea what you’re trying to say lmao. Jalen hurts made the playoffs with devonta smith as his WR1, no AJB. I believe they went somewhere around 9-8 and got in as a WC. That would be an absolute dream scenario for this year.
@@choosecarefully408 everything except the eye test. It’s 3rd and 5, down one score they call a great play. the receiver is wide open at the sticks and it’s 3 yards over his head.
Most people from twitter and other social media platforms just do not get it. They didn't watch the games and are obsessed with numbers. Like Brett said Justin can read the defenses, he had no time to do it. He was constantly moving all game waiting for his receivers to separate. After months of doing that he cracked and thats how you get a week 17 blowout.
Everyone keeps using the Hutch interception, but hide from the fact whenever else he has time to throw the football around 3 seconds it's a 25 - 40 yard catch. He also has insane work ethic. Many people are going to be blindsided when he throws about 28-34 TDS this year, but people like myself knew it is seriously possible. He worked on all his flaws this offseason.

one thing people constantly overlook about the bears defense last year was that the rush defense was so bad, it forced the pass defense into being atrocious. go look at the stats last year, teams ran it almost 100 times more vs the bears than the league average, and teams threw the ball almost 100 times less vs the bears than the league average. yes the pass defense was bad, but a huge reason was because they could not stop the run, and had to commit a ton of personnel into stopping the run, which left the pass game vulnerable.
but even with all that, teams still decided to run vs the bears much more than they did pass vs the bears. the league average was 15 rush TDs allowed, but the bears gave up 31 rushing TDs. the league average for first downs allowed on the ground was 115, the bears gave up 151 first downs to rushers. the league average for YPC allowed was 4.5, the bears gave up 4.9 YPC. the league average for rushing attempts vs your defense was 461, but teams rushed vs the bears 542 times.
compare that to passing stats for the defense. they were below the league average for passing first downs allowed, and passing TDs allowed. the league average for passes vs a defense was 564 attempts, but teams only threw it vs the bears 481 times. the main terrible stats for the pass defense was no pressure, and they allowed the most yards per pass. yes the pass defense was bad, but a sizeable portion of that blame can be placed on how bad the rush defense was.
even though the bears were in a ton of close games, and teams didnt really ever blow them out, teams still ran the ball vs the bears at a significantly higher rate than the rest of the league. and teams also threw it at a significantly lower rate vs the bears than they did vs the rest of the league. and the main reason is because that is how bad the bears rush defense was. which also caused lots of issues in the pass defense.
although poles didnt add any premier pass rushers, he did significantly upgrade the middle of the defense. this alone should help the bears pass defense be better, as they will hopefully be able to run a more standard defense, and not have to worry so badly about stopping the run, and putting too many men down in the box to stop the run, leaving the pass game vulnerable. because it was too easy for teams last year vs the bears. all they had to do was line up and run the ball, and occasionally complete a 3rd and medium or 3rd and long pass to keep a drive going.
I live in New York City for the last 25+ years and I am a Chicago Bears fan. I love the direction the team is headed , and I’m excited to watch this episode in full more bears 🐻 Content. I think the team will give you a reason to talk about them this year, and will be much much improved.

Dbs coach was a guy named James rowe but he left for another opportunity elsewhere. Hoke was around when lovie was here I think though so he will know how to coach this defense. Edmonds is such a stud, I got him to X-factor on my madden 24 bears franchise. He’s 6’5” 250 absolute beast

The Edmonds signing is really interesting. They had the closest thing to Fred Warner in Roquan Smith. It looks like they believe Edmonds is nearly as good for less money and brought a draft asset as well.
On offense they are going to really challenge defenses vertically. DJ Moore is a vertical X, Mooney is a sub 4.4 guy and Scott the kid from Cincinnati has elite top end speed. No matter what defenses have to take that seriously which means they should be an elite running team again. I'm almost afraid to say this but this offense could really be devastating.

Currently at the 35:00 mark. What pass rush did the Bears add? Very minimal additions in that department. Still definitely in the running for the worst pass rush in the NFL.
Those ceilings are a bit rich. Maybe in 2024, but this team has a ton to do to prove they are even average, much less a contender.
I sum it up this way. There is losing and having no hope and there is losing but seeing some hope on the field. The Bears were the latter, they did not feel like the worst team in football even though they were.

I’m a bit unsure of the edmunds signing personally. Watching him a lot in Buffalo he struggled to make plays when his d-line was getting buried in his face(assume most LB’s face this issue but bears d-line isn’t an upgrade right now) and his coverage skills are average at best despite freaky athleticism. I personally think it was a severe overpay and could’ve been drafted/developed instead. We shall see though, great episodes guys! Excited for the summer!!
Hopefully all of this optimism isn't misplaced. I believe there is a lot of talent on the roster, could be a quick turnaround. The defensive line is still a concern, but hopefully they can stop the run. Couldn't really stop anything last yr. You can run option under center
