The defense did turn around towards the last like 5 or 4 games once he finally gave up the whole soft coverage concept. He should’ve realized we’ve got some ballers in Jaire and Rasul who can hang with just about anyone even deep. Rasul is too smart to let a speed guy just out run him.
Despite his shitty start, our passing d ranked #6 for the season and that was with Gary out which hurt the pass rush to make it easier on the coverage. I just hope he doesn’t just ride on the CB talent and actually puts together a good scheme opponents can’t pick apart easily. We have way too much talent on defense for us to not be top 5.

I absolutely _love_ how Fan Loyalty is far more blind to The Franchise than to players. This is what allows teams like Green Bay to move out of the way of better teams & *stay there* as the fans absolutely refuse to question decisions like that more than on ineffectual social media.
Okay, so it severely backfired for three full years as Greg Roman did his best to sabotage Lamar's chances of getting a Big Contract, but it was a stupid short-term plan that had to end with blowing up the entire team's plane or paying him, so that's over now.

Big Packers fan here. I'll update this comment as I watch with my thoughts :)
If God exists, they're a Cheesehead.
Power Score feels about right to me. We're used to setting the bar so high for them that 16 FEELS like we had an awful season, but all in all we were about average.
Our issues with Quarters and a lot of that Fangio type stuff didn't have much to do with injuries, imo, it has to do with Joe Barry trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. Jaire is one of, if not THE, best man corner in the league, and I can't tell you how many fistfuls of hair I pulled out watching him play 10-20 yards off the LOS. Rasul struggled HARD inside, and Barry just kept him there instead of putting him on the boundary where he is stronger.
The Stunt % thing just compounds my previous point. We absolutely NEEDED to find ways to generate more pressure up front, and he just straight up refused. Even without Gary, you can still get creative and find ways to attack the QB. Barry just sat on his heels and dared them to beat us, which teams gladly took him up on.
I think we are definitely going to be a run heavy team this year, we're just built perfectly for it. One name that didn't get mentioned though is Josiah Deguara. LaFleur has been absolutely itching for a TE/FB kind of guy in his offense, and Deguara is that guy. He is one of those players that Rodgers just refused to really get involved despite his success in run blocking. I have a hunch that he is going to get the ball in his hands a lot more this season.
Its pronounced Doubs, not Doubs :)
Rodgers is on record saying that he detests play action along with any kind of presnap motion. I am fully expecting our PA% to jump up this season.
For better or worse I want Love to start the exact same way that Rodgers did last year: take big shot on your very first play. Whip your dick out, lay it on the table and assert your dominance.
As EJ said, our history of O line success is not an accident. From Campen to Stenavich to Butkus, our philosophy has not changed. You have to draft the right guys of course, but you have to have the right guys to coach them up too, and I'm glad that LaFleur has continued on with that tradition.
Tom Clements was retired, sipping tea on his front porch until Rodgers called him up last year and asked him to return. Tom didnt need to come back after Rodgers left, he wanted to. He wanted to keep mentoring Love. This more than anything is what makes me excited to see what Love can do.
I dont do Fantasy Football, but there are not 15 RBs better than Aaron Jones. Full stop.
Amos did have a down year, but this is the only FA loss that I'm really concerned about. I'm not yet sold on our Safety depth, and I still think that Amos can contribute in a big way. Still a chance we can work something out with him, but I'm not too hopeful at this point.
Keisean Nixon is a notable re-sign. Our ST has been absolutely abysmal for a LONG time until Nixon came around. He was an immediate game changer on ST, and I'm excited to see him play a larger role on defense.
I got nothing to add about the draft class, but for UDFAs don't sleep on Kenneth Odumegwu out of Nigeria. Dude is a physical freak. I'm not going to say he is a roster lock given his lack of experience, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he makes it either. He is an absolute monster.
Im not going to get into record predictions. There are just too many unknowns. All I'll say is that if we are in position to make a playoff run in December/January, I'll be satisfied.
Really solid overview guys! This is a very young team with a ton of question marks, but there is plenty of optimism to be had too. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to eat myself into a cheese and beer filled coma until September.

Just a little added info to the RB thing: Saying Jones isn't a top 15 Fantasy RB does not mean he isn't a top 15 real life RB. Usage is often more important.
Imagine if you have a RB who has 10 yards a carry but only gets the ball 5 times a game. He would be pretty much useless for fantasy but would be the best (most efficient) real life RB.
Fantasy players have cried for years that the Packers should give Jones the ball more because we can see what he is capable of...

My biggest problem with nfl coaches is not adjusting to their players. It’s malpractice to come in and run your scheme when the players you have can’t do it. Especially when they can preform better.
The reason Fangio is so good is he adjusts to his players despite being known for his defense.

    • @vincentbernal635
      @vincentbernal635 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I think the problem with people who have coached under guys like a Belichick, Reid, Fangio, and Kyle Shanahan, is that they think they could copy and paste that system to another team. It don’t work like that.
The coach better show originality, and be flexible with their players.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

NFL coaching has gradients of aptitude. Sometimes they may need a few years and knowledge of their personnel to be able to adjust. Some just never adjust at all and still have a job somehow because the HC/staff are fine with them. After all the HC gets to choose/keep their staff. But yeah Fangio set the standard for his concepts and getting the right details to make timely calls. Many of his 'disciples' have tried but absolutely fail in adjusting to what the offense is doing. Even his 'offshoot' guys (not directly under Fangio but practice his zone concepts on coverage) have far better success on the DC job (Demeco Ryans is a great example) because they are great play callers and coaches.

Everyone keeps saying "You are going to take a step back when youre moving on from Aaron Rodgers" but no one really acknowledges that Aaron Rodgers wasnt really Aaron Rodgers last year. Jordan Love doesn't have to be Rodgers 2.0 in order to be an improvement from Rodgers last year, he just needs to be average, and Green Bay will be a better team. Just my 2 cents.

The biggest reason that 2.7 second time that Aaron averaged and why the passes were often short ones is Aaron didn't trust his line. He had good protection but dumped the ball short and didn't wait for those longer routes to develop. He also worried more about his INT stats than making plays. Of course, things didn't quite work out as you predicted, but you really weren't too far off, other than what the actual ceiling turned out to be for Jorden Love, some of the young receivers, and with them, the offense.
I will be very interested in what you have to say this next off season, after the draft.

His traits wont wow you but his command of the huddle and his game savvy should make him a guy that could win a few if called upon. I expect this year he'll be QB3 but next year he'll be QB2.

What makes me mad is that a lot of good defensive coordinators were on the move this off-season, yet we pursued none of them and are still stuck with Joe Barry. I can’t remember when we had a consistently good defense since I can only remember the Dom Capers years and onward, and I was fed up with those defenses being last in the league in multiple categories year after year.

Also, I hope Jordan Love can become as good as Kirk Cousins because that will prevent us from becoming the Lions of old where they were a 1-5 win team for pretty much a decade straight. Remember that they also had an 0-16 season a few years ago, which I thought was impossible in the NFL.

I've lived since 1971. This means Ive lived through some bad Packers. IMHO I think people feel he's going to fail because they think to win, we need a HOF QB and who has 3 in a row? Statistically, that just can't be possible. So, he has to fail. But, the truth is we don't need a HOF QB to be winners or even to go to and win a SuperBowl. I can't even say it would help because AR only got us one SB. BF, took us to two but gave us one. So, 30+ years with 21 postseasons...only 3 appearances in the big game.

    • @williamhermann6635

If youre going for fantasy then definitely pick Musgrave. Packers offense is most comparable to the 49ers who utilize 2 tight ends sets heavily with Kittle and Ross Dwelly. Kittle is the "move" tight end which is a focal point of the Shanahan offense (think Shannon Sharpe with Broncos/M. Shanahan and Owen Daniel with Texans/Gary Kubiak). Thats the role Musgrave will likely play. Dwelly is the inline tight end whos more of a blocker. That will likely be Kraft's role.
