Victrix Gambit? Sorry, I was wrong. NOT the Budget Goat controller!

  • So I released a video a while ago about the victrix gambit pro controller, and how it was definitely the goat of the budget world.
Unfortunately it seems we have been let down again, by durability in the controller space. Hopefully if you have one, it's still great, but I thought since I gassed up how great the Victrix Gambit was in my review, I had to follow this up with new information.
I'll leaver the old one up as it still goes through what it's got and the features, but had to make this!
Let me know your thoughts and your experience in the comments
    Peace x

I just bought it on sale for $70 (US) on sale with a 2 year replacement plan in case any of these issues happen. I've had every iteration of the Fusion Pro by PowerA, and while I generally like them, they don't seem to hold up too well. Especially the trigger stops. Over time they go soggy feeling and the travel increases dramatically. Additionally, on all 3 that I've owned, the edges of the thumbsticks tear pretty quickly under normal use (something I've never had happen on another controller).
I wanted to stay under $80 though and so I took the Gambit on sale with that replacement plan.

Fully agree on the PowerA F2 replacement, you're suggesting. It was also my favorite pick. Was, because it's only amazing, if you don't play with wired headsets. If you do, you will run into heavy white noise issues, frequently popping in. Which are quite loud as well. Had that with the Fusion 1 as well and it is still present in this model. It is really a shame, because it felt overall amazing to use.

It’s made cheaply and if dropped will break easy. As someone who spends thousand a year on controllers. It’s by far the best controller for the price. Elite series 2 and scuffs both have drift and dead buttons earlier.

Drift I can deal with, but this trigger snapped quicker than any dead button I've ever gotten sadly. And I maybe have around 30 controllers at the moment...

I have the controller for about three months, and really impresses me daily without any problem so far!!I could have been happier and will probably get their BFG ps5/ps controller when released! No flimsy buttons or stick drift, whatsoever!Hopefully i dont get any of that in the near or distant future, but in my perspective, maybe I am lucky and perhaps not all gambits are that durable, or are from a different batch?

I loved the feel of this roller. Buttons in the perfect spot and LIGHTNING fast response. However after 3 1/2 months of maybe 10 hours a week gameplay, my left stick stops moving randomly and my right stick cranks sweet 90s randomly like it's playing Fortnite. I filed a return claim but they have been awful getting back to me. I'm so disappointed because I wanted to love this thing but lack of support and reliability make me look at other options.

The worst thing about this controller is the fact that you cant turn off tje deadzones, you can only minimize them, making fine precise aim movements very tough. Even the turtle beach recon has better input out of the box.

I received my victrix gambit control today. Got it off eBay for $45. My xbox Series X control, had major stick drift. I attempted to fix it but after cleaning the analogs with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. It won't even pair to my PC anymore. 1st issue I had with the Gambit, was the right trigger being stuck on rapid fire. I was already thinking DOA 🤔. I downloaded the software and did a recalibration and thankfully that fixed it. 2nd issue and major flaw are the faceplates getting in the way of the analog sticks. Playing Overwatch 2, the characters were moving noticeably sluggish.. on both analog stick movements. Google searched and found some similar experiences but folks linked it to bad analog components. Nope its the faceplates limiting movement. So the rubber plate is completely useless without modification. The plastic plate can be salvaged by removing the gates. I was playing without a faceplate and it felt weird but my accuracy was improved even when handicapped.. dead zone is noticeably better than an original Xbox control. Might be to late for PDP to address the faceplates..

Interesting. there must be different batches with different quality. I have had my for 9 months or so and I easily have 2500-3000 hours of gaming on it.
and that's on games like rocket league which are not nice to controllers. the controller is still in great shape in every way for me. It's almost sad to hear they lost their way somewhere along the road.

I got mine off Amazon a while back and I refunded mine due too the left analog stick screwing me over in MW 2019 it would stop sprinting randomly and it got me killed loads and it was an off putting feeling it just felt off and I was on edge when running around the map hoping it wouldn’t do it when I was about too get In another gunfight. I also used it on Destiny 2 and I would randomly stop sprinting and that game you have infinite sprint so it was definitely the controller it happened when I actually pressed the sprint button it would just cancel my sprint immediately I would do the sprint animation for like a second and I’d have too click the analog again too actually sprit which would also screw me over that’s the issue I had with this controller so that’s why I sent mine back. I felt on edge all the time when using the left analog stick so this controller definitely wasn’t for me. I’ve had Scufs in the past one of mine already broke in 3 months after having it my right click trigger broke and I had too pay £80 too get it repaired they are overpriced and terrible and are a waste of money I own 2 PS5 Scufs and I never use them now I use a HYPR PS5 controller Best controller I own only con with it is that the Right and left bumpers are a bit wobbly and loose. But the Scuf FPS controller got that right the bumpers on it are perfect and don’t wobble. Apart from that my PS5 HYPER controller is best controller I own. Another thing I’d like too add is you can over clock controllers on PC and Xbox controller don’t do a full over lock but PlayStation ones do so they are more responsive giving you more of an advantage im pretty sure PS5 ones are the best for this and that’s why I moved over too using a PS5 controller.

    • @brandonh115
      @brandonh115 ปีที่แล้ว

I had something very similar happen with mine as well with the left joystick, after only having it for 2 months, the left stick is starting to become unresponsive, tried to recalibrate it in the Victrix hub, but like I would have it all the way over to the side and it would be registering as it fluctuating to the side to eventually settle back in the center even though I never moved my thumb from holding it on that side, ive never had an issue like this with any of my controllers, its always drift, but this is a new issue. So what does this mean for fps like MWII, its a struggle to move laterally or strafe which frustrating for a fast paced fps, or like for Destiny, it make managing your inventory a pain when the cursor just straight up stops moving and then same issue with lateral movements in game. Its honestly disappointing, love the feel of this controller and its features, but they just had to go the cheap route with manufacturing it, so much for quality like an elite or scuf which is the supposed competition.

I had a Victrix Gambit for like 3 weeks. It was great for most all of that time. Everything fine. Until I started messing with audio settings in dolby, switching to dts occasionally, and changing EQ settings in the app and in dolby. And then i started getting random loud pops on xbox voice chat. Not in game. Or in game chat. Just with xbox party chat. Unfortunately the shitty store I bought it from only has a 15 day return policy. So I have to RMA it.
I really do like the controller. And its FAR superior to the power a fusion pro 2 man. Its not even a comparison. I have the fusion pro 2, its hot garbage. I had one get grind in one of the analogs after 2 days. And they just sent me another for free, no need to return the one, or take a picture, nothing. Thats a sure sign they are making hot garbage and they know it. Not to mention it has around 52 grams of weights in the handles to make it feel more premium. And the paddle design, is by far the worst on the market seeing as they stick off the back by a nautical mile.
I would say, no controller does it right. Razer is close, they just need to rethink their awful paddle design. But they're far above most others in terms of durability. However, they still use crappy potentiometers in the analogs so. Its gonna drift. But the mechanical switches they use, are a nice feature. Just wish those dang paddles were not so unintuitive.
Why 4 paddles, and trigger stops, ends up costing us anywhere from 60-120 dollars OR MORE. Is beyond me. Them just taking advantage of us with some cheap garbage imo.

So I have mixed feelings. I just got one and the software won’t save my settings so every time I restart my pc I need to recalibrate and reassign back buttons. If they fixed this, it would be the best controller because it is FAR superior than the fusion pro 2. The fusion pro 2 build is terrible and even with the fusion pro overclocked the victrix was faster out the box with no overclock.

I contacted them about it recently and they said it seems to be a fw loading issue on some gambit controllers. So they asked that I have the latest version of the victrix app open and then hold down the A+B button and plug in the gambit controller. The app prompted a fw upgrade on my controller and after that now my controller is saving the calibration and other settings again! I recommend you give this a try.
