I have read several reviews saying that the pan doesn't have enough slope or it cracks after instalin. I have a big consen about the heavy glass as mensioned before and the pan not draining property.
I’m curious to what they’re warranty is. Seams like a budget friendly option. Also trusting that silicone will keep water from migrating underneath the pan is what keeps me skeptical
if you watch the Castico installation video you will see several silicone applications that were skipped or not filmed by Winni. The use of drywall by both Winni and Castico as a "waterproof" layer is without any foundation and completely forbidden under TCNA regs. and by most construction codes.
Isn't the moving door on the wrong side of the fixed glass based upon shower head position? As it is currently installed (at least it looks this way to me) the water from the showerhead and all the splashing from that end of the shower will spray/splash through where the door overlaps with the fixed glass as the door is on the inside of the shower instead of the outside. I'm hoping that was just a mistake and not the intended/recommended installation. Other than that, looks great, great detail and quality, and great video.
Your very good mna! detail orientated, organized, and methodical. Dont get why you waterproofed/banded the seams of the drywall. I hope none of the shower seams fail. 4 days is damn quick.
Seems like there was zero sense using membrane on your drywall seems and not on the rest of the drywall ??? Not criticism... confusion. We've used mr marble solid panel systems they don't suggest or require barrier... but no seems other than corners. That joint in the center of your wall feels like a weak spot in this system ?
Yeah , why is there no waterproofing band behind the seam down the middle?? Why bother with the horizontal band halfway up, where most of it is behind solid panel, if you aren't going to do the vertical seam. I didn't even see any caulking get put in between or behind (he did put some on afterwards, but how much could get into such a small gap?) . That aint right!
Hey hey!!! it's been a while since I caught a vid .... as always tho TY TY for your channel it's been great being subbed and super happy for your continued success with everything and it's a TON of work... Cheers !
Hi Winni, loving your content, i've been following for a few years now and i find you're closer to how i do things than most youtuber so it's kind of self approving to be watching your stuff. With that said, i think there might be a flaw with the way you waterproofed. You installed a 6 inch band where the pan meets the floor but if the water ever find its way to that band and continue to flow down, then it will find the lowered substrate and root the OSBs. I think in this case you would have to put a kerdi-like membrane under the pan with corners and band all around just like you did. Anyway let me know what you think, i am curious to have your opinion on this, cheers.
For me it was very important to make sure I use all epoxy grout and silicone sealant. Also I think pictching that front tile into the shower was very important. At the time this is the problem with most Curbless showers. Personally I have good confidence in this install, but it’s my first one like this. So we will see! Either way if we did more waterproofing around it would still make it’s way to the bottom of the drain.
I wouldn't even call it backerboard since that's the term they use for cementous fiberboard, I refer to it just as green board/sheetrock and that thing grows mold and mildew almost the same as regular sheetrock. Personally I think without waterproofing membrane on top it might require demolition sooner than later.
Winni, I am installing this exact shower base but using the laticrete wall boards and tiling above it. Would you put a ton of silicone between the flange that is screwed to the base and the wall? I'm wonder if I can use laticrete sealant instead? Any input on this?
What is the bottom called and where can I get one? Also do you have any videos of replacing a plastic bottom with a ledge to a solid bottom without the ledge? My walls are tiled with a plastic bottom that has holes in it and it has a ledge that I hate. I'm hoping I can DIY this conversation. Any helpful videos would be awesome.
@@paulmagnani5855 i have this, it's definitely not marble, the marble is printed on to the synthetic stone material. i know this because in some areas that print has started to fade and change color. that doesn't happen to marble.
Like all quick shower systems the drain doesn't meet code. It requires a 2 " drain. The tub has an 1 1/2 drain. The walls are not watertight and require a membrane on all the greenboard.
Which building code would that be? Mine says one shower head = 1 1/2" drain. Why are the comments saying greenboard? Unless there is something very wrong with the colour gamut on my laptop, the wall board is as grey as their shirts and looks very much like Georgia Pacific's Denshield tile backer and those solid plastic sheets are about as waterproof as one can get.
Yeah. cause of not you will die if you don't use these new fangled overpriced substandard junk systems. Do not know how the true craftsmen ever did a bathroom in the 50s that lasted 70 years without it.
I had this installed last summer. A few things: 1) Definitely not a one man job, the shower pan is especially heavy 2) the fake marble print on mine has started to fade into this purple tone in some spots 3) be very careful what kind of caulk you use - the contractor I hired used the wrong type of caulk and now it's all yellow 4) even though the shower walls are 7 feet high, water will still get on the painted wall above the shower walls

You should have treated the shower pan and walls with Miracle Stone Impregnator. The caulk should have been clear, 100% silicone and it wouldn’t turn yellow. The painted wall above the 7’ panel, that seam should also get a line of caulk at the top of the Castico wall where it meets the painted wall. 👍
The pan is stone, and you can't tell but it has a light wavy/textured kinda imperfect stone look to it, it IS the stone/tile, one solid preformed stone slab with texture and presloped (lightly)
Why don't use a shower pan base? It would almost certain there would be no leaking in the long term, also why don't tile the walls the same as the floor? Fake marble looks cheap...
Shower looks cheaply made and will most likely leak after a few years should have used Shulter all around and tiles it with real solid tiles not plastic laminate. However great craftsmanship if it lasts.
I bought the same flooring as in the video. You would be surprised as to how nice it looks and also very safe for non-slipping. But the company does offer different flooring choices.
very nice. I appreciate the attention to detail on the cuts and install overall. Very well done.
Very impressive system, installation and *video*. 3-4 days for a quality install with curbless is tough to beat.
This looks like an amazing system that wont break the bank with labour costs. And, a great option for basements too.

not to mention that green drywall is not even close to being a waterproof membrane.t barely qualifies as water resistant.

Green Board ?
I just had the same shower installed. Floor and walls all the same. I love it!
How do you like it still? THis would be nice not having to tile a shower pan.
You sped through the most important parts.

One of the best I have seen...
Why waterproof joints on drywall? What's the point drywall is far from waterproof

I would just waterproof the entire wall but suggesting there’s a weak spot in the system because of a seam = over analyzing.

If water gets to the green board the problem will start there first.
what are we spraying wiping down caulk? alcohol or soapy water??
Where did you get your corner shelves for this shower?
looks real nice but if they had loads of water pressure it just seems like water could get outside shower, like perhaps not enough pitch maybe?
I dont see how the pan has enough pitch to qualify for TCNA regs for shower floors.
What material is you used for the wall, drywall or, cement fiber board? I meant that the green all.
Do you screw the shower base to install the door?
Where the panels meet in the middle you used grout? I thought it was silicone that goes there
when you cut the shower pan. did you take the flange thickness into account? Does that add much thickness?

Can this be done on the 1st floor which has the concrete slab ?
What about a pitch for the water to go towards the drain? Is this fabrication already have that angle build in?
Yes, the pan has slight slope formed in (about to install exact same system)

Are those corner shelves also included with the Castico shower kit?
The shelves are not included. I bought 2 corner shelves and one recessed shelf from a different company called Flexstone. I bought at Lowes.
Is that a standard drain assembly you would buy at the big box store thinking about putting this type pan on my next bid but can’t find any literature
Yes, standard 4.5" oatey for preformed pans(it is labeled that way right at your big box store like $11
