Great to see you get an easy one from an honest seller. It's difficult to take any seller at their word. The key is don't pay too much just in case the seller is lying out their ass. If it sounds to good to be true it usually is but not always as you well know. I used to fix and flip cars. Too many financial lessons to learn. Off-road vehicles with small engines seems a much better way to go once you understand values. Great channel.

It would be even better to have an episode 2, 3.. etc. I'm sure I'm not the only one to wanna see you go through any project, and not just the beginning of them, even if it doesn't turn into a project and gets sold, let us know! Can't wait for the next part of the Honda you bought with the destroyed engine, or the old snowmobile with the rotten gas tank! Really interesting content whatsoever, and it is just my humble opinion! Also, if you wanna be less bothered while filming your interventions on engines, maybe consider buying a go pro , or using your phone that you could carry on your chest or head, it would avoid you the constant moving of the camera for the right angle before any move on the vehicle!

Considering all the aftermarket parts on the bike that’s easy 7k here in California. The front end alone will run you at lest $1500 ( a arms and shocks ) add the rear shock, axle, pipe with head work about the same. So fir $2500 that’s a steal 👍🏽
There are honest folk out there that just want stuff gone occasionally, i dont think its ever had coolant back in it since the rebuild. another lucky find

Just bought one too a few months ago from my neighbor fully loaded complete race setup, built engine elka suspension extended control arms/axle runs on race gas ready to ride for 2k cash, I’d say I got it on a steal. It’s a 2005 trx 450r twist throttle and she’s a total beast
Joe finds an untighted cam CHAIN tightener. Mission accomplished. Finding the cam chain loose was the kicker. Then the stretched chain couldn't stay tight until Joe put an extra turn in the spring. This will soon run out of tension again MAYBE.
Built that same setup in 05. But I had jb a arms,swimgarm,stem and subframe. Very nice quad. Then I sold it and bought a new crf450 and never looked back lol.
I had one of those about 15 years ago and I swear that thing was a Widowmaker because it was just scary fast. I put some Woody’s studs from a snowmobile on the back tire for ice racing and it was insane. I love your channel and don’t stop what you’re doing.

Thats a pretty high compression ratio. I had a bike that was up there too but it ran better on Avgas which I bought from my local airport. ...just a thought.

The only thing that concerns me is that the tensioner is maxed out and will not be able to keep the chain tight if it stretches out anymore. I know that changing the timing chain sucks but I think you are just prolonging the inevitable replacement with the tensioner adjustment. Other than that you got an excellent find.
@@jerrywilcox9890 I do know. I have been working on cars since the early 90's and my personal and friends motorcycles almost as long. I have changed tensioners on motorcycles but never had to change out the chain but have watched you and a few others on TH-cam do it.
I recommend changing out that plug going to the CDI box cause those go bad on those Honda four wheeler'e a lot due to getting wet a lot to. I'd use some electrical dilute grease inside of those plugs.& connection contact points to.

Is that timing chain new or used, looks like a hell of a lot of play, don't want to be heavy in the throttle and it slips, your gonna be ass out. Just be mindful of tolerances. They're there for a reason, so they won't take too long to swap out. Great bike, though. Keep up the great work and vids!
More than likely he drained the coolant because he was planning on having to remove the head to replace the chain. Just my guess. Also why he probably called it quits.

Around here they are 4k CAD+ bone stock, got ridiculous during covid and prices haven't went backup down for the 450s. That's a decent price for what you have I believe.
Hopefully it's not out of coolant cuz there's a head gasket failure, or cap failure causing it overflow constantly. Boyesen cover without aftermarket clutch is normal. Guys buy em for bling. It's winter man, after you get it running, complete teardown. Get new heims and ball joints, rebuild linkage and swingarm. Freshen it up. It deserves it. Send the shocks to SF Racing, he'll rebuild them for you quad specs and your weight and make em look new. Please, don't just do it for us, do it for you, you deserve it
Did you ever think there was no coolent because he never got that far after he got it in time. From the previous owner that rebuilt it.makes sense to me
Fix that fan to come on when it SHOULD!! The machine needs to warm up and run at its spec temp. For the best reason to fix the fan to come on ONLY when it should is because when the fan says “F-U” & locks up what u gunna do then?? Now 1st Check & clean the radiator cooling fins and clean out debris. Now, it’s 13/1 motor and should ONLY b running race gas either 110 or 113 oxygenated. Finally ending w/putting in engine ice coolant in it I bet the fan probably won’t even come on but once or twice in a day of riding
I can't wait till you start doing what I think you call street bike's i have a YZFR125 I hear there is not many in the U.S. but they have an EFI engine and I hear they are the most complicated 125s they have the same engine as the MT125 I had to change my first engine water had gotten into the engine and ruined my bottom and top ends the conrod was bent and wasn't able to replace the water pump seals was good and couldn't work out how water had got in if you start doing my type of bike I have some spares I could send oil filters plastics wheels ect I tend to buy too many extra spares and would willingly send them over as love how you explain things as you go I was going to get rid of my bike but it owes me double what it's worth and it is my first bike I am legal on and own I would say anyone come to me with a kx125 in good condition I'd have to really think about it as before owning this bike I wanted a 2stroke dirt bike to trail ride

You normally don't half to readjust the valve clearance's on the Honda 450cc engine if your just changing out the cam shaft inside. To A racing hot cam #3 those valves should stay at factory settings even though you change that cam. Cause it allows the valves lift clearance to stay at the specs. By doing that procedure due to it's only the camshaft being changed out.& Nothing else in that part of the top end on the head for increasing power.& Performance output at its peak. So no it stays the same. It'll be A screamer now to. Sometimes the tensioner can break like you just said to.
GRUMPY here those things on the bars are called bark busters in aus they stop trees ,bush ect from smashing your hands as you bust threw the bush good deal on the forby lots of good bits GRUMPY
Hey bud even before I watch your video there is no way a trx450r is worth 7000 dollars. If you find a good one 35 to 42 at most that's here in Western Pa. I don't think they were even going for that much when honda stopped making them
That's what I thought your problem was your problem with the loose timing chain issues on that Honda 450cc four wheeler. Check the CDI box could have went bad to.
I have a Honda 300 four trax in perfect condition... Their classic four wheelers & Durable didn't want to part with it but would be willing to swap it for more speed. So if you're looking to trade for one of your quads.
I had an 09red trx450r it had stage 3hot rod crank stage 3hot rod cam wisco 13 5 to 1as well with stage 3dirt digger clutch kit and Ferrara vavles pro comp 10stage ecu thing did 160kph was nuts 5th gear wheelies all day

If that is a stage 3 Hotcams it's - Intake Cam Valve Lash 0.150mm and Exhaust Cam Valve Lash 0.280mm

When it says uni cam it means only a single cam compared to some that have the double overhead Cam the early 450s had these still a great motor

You can clean a stator, the metal ends just be careful, it'll clean nice with a little brake clean and some scotch brite.

My 700xx is fully stock so it must not have many hours on it for it to still run good with no knocks or ticks but damn that 450 sounds better

All those after market parts are old aftermarket parts now those front shocks are dinosaurs a arms old bud you got a decent deal

Try a manual adjusting chain tensioner. Put one on my Raptor, OEMs kept breaking, not a problem since...
