- Episode 68
Back in April 2023, we rescued a giant Belgian gelding (18.1 hands tall) from Bowie Texas Livestock who we named Liam. When we arrived at the stockyard we were shocked to see the condition he was in. His front legs were completely stiff and he could barely walk. We rushed him to the vet for immediate medial attention.
X-Rays showed that he had sever arthritis in both his front coffin joints and arthritis in his left pastern joint. One of the original 6 horses we rescued, Cami, has sever arthritis in her pastern joint. We take her to our veterinarian (Mobile Veterinary Practice) for steroid injections and they have helped her tremendously. We made an appointment for Liam to see Dr. Waggoner at MVP to see what treatment she thought would be the best for him. We got Liam coffin joints injected and he started walking around better. We got him on some pain and inflammation medications as well. The combination of all of these treatments has helped Liam walk around to enjoy retirement.
This video is an update on Liam. Its amazing the transformation a horse can make with good feed, love and kindness. We can learn so much from these horses and we hope you can see though our videos what they have to teach us. Back at the end of April, Liam gave me huge scare when he broke out of his pen and rummaged through the barn for about an hour unattended. I happened to be walking out to the barn to clean stalls and fill the feed buckets for dinner when I saw a giant head poke out the side door! Liam is the sweetest horse and we are so glad he is here on the farm enjoying a comfortable retirement. He brings a smile to everyones face whenever they see him. We hope he bring a smile to your face too!

Breaks my heart to know that gentle old handsome boy was worked so mercilessly and then discarded when he couldn't go another step. And I hope all those who treat animals that way will equally suffer at some point in their life! Thank you for showing him respect and kindness.
I think so too - these people treat this old poor gigants so bad I can't understand. These people are not human - they are devil on two feet. I don't know things about the amish - I live in South West of Germany I'm not Christian but I know God will punish these devil.
Agree. Some people are evil. Seems like most are.😢😢😢
And we know who they r starts with A
Julie, Liam seems to be a very special horse. Not only is he huge, he is funny, curious and intelligent. I hope he, and each of your other rescued horses, have happy, healthy lives for some years to come! 🤠🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴❣
Thank you so much!
I have these same issues, in a place calledJemez NM up at the Soda Dam there is some hot water comes from the earth and since I was a kid people soak there feet in it, I gave it a try and for some reason works well for me and a lot of others , I'd build this guy a pool and get some of that water heat it up I bet he'd like it you never know, but he should talk to the vet and maybe up the dose on the meds to watch this poor guy walk around makes me hurt ! I had a dog that had leg injury and he got some hot swimming tank time helped him recover and I didn't have to bath him except for later started liking those hot baths too much you just never know what will help but he's a great looking guy and seems he has a good sense of humor!
His poor mane has started to grow back, it's truly wonderful to see him so happy and doing so well in his new life🐴🐎🐴
He mane is getting so long! It's starting to fold over. He will look so different when its grown out.
And those eyelashes!! He is a very handsome boy!❤
Gravity is no friend to these gentle giants. They are so massive and have some specialized bodies with so much of their bulk is right over the front legs. Old age combined with past abuse really takes a toll on these magnificent horses. *GOD BLESS YOU. You're doing God's work.* I hope your hearts are feeling much better after the trauma of losing Amara. She touched my heart profoundly.
Liam is so good looking since he came to your farm. Thank you for helping him so much with all his medical treatments. I have arthritis and can sympathize with Liam and his pain and stiffness. He’s so beautiful. I thought he was very clever the way he kicked out his gate to escape into the barn. Bless you all 💗💗💗🙏🌠🐴
Liam is so funny and smart! I too have arthritis so I know what it can be like but I also know there are ways to manage it. Thank you for watching, we appreciate your support.
Julie said she has arthritis, too, and it seems like everyone has it nowadays. Julie, if you read my post here, I take Vit. D3 with Vit. K2 (MK-7 with Mena, 45 mcg) which together pull the calcium out of the blood stream and put it in the bones where it belongs. Our drinking water in Cali. has fluoride which actually gets stuck in the bones and causes the arthritis to start with.
@@FletcherFarmsAmarillo Oh yes, Liam is very smart. Its so sad to me when the farmers who had these beautiful horses and worked them nearly to death then just disgard them.
Bless you at Fletcher Farms for what you do. I am sorry to hear a young lady like you has arthritis. Yes it can be controlled. Have a wonderful week
Sugar and starch and processed foods is the cause of inflammation. People have great success with Carnivore diet, and or Omad. Also new discovery is fecal transplant from healthy individuals, I wonder if it could help for horses too. Or at least try first milk, it is essential for newborns, maybe it helps these seniors gut biome too.
Liam cracks me up! After that gate opened, he looked around to see if he got caught, then decided to go on a little adventure hobbling around the barn! Little stinker! 😂😂😂❤😂😂😂
He is such a stinker! He brings a smile to my face everyday and I hope he brought one to your face too!
Stinker, yes. LITTLE stinker, not so much...😄😄😄
Liam is so sharp MENTALLY...BLESS his painful AILING BODY!!!
🙏🙏🙏💙🙏🙏🙏
He's also a MISCHIEVOUS, BIG BOY just looking for some FUN...🤣❤‼️❤🤣
Yeah, he struggles to lumber along and carry his heavy body, but the steroid injections do seem to elevate his mood, he grooms with Dutch, and calls out to Julie for morning feed.
Very young, I had the FM and the acupuncture actually got rid of it. Glad to hear Dr. Waggoner is going to try it, or was it MVP? By the way, acupuncture lasts a long time; it re-regulates the nerve connections which are dysregulated.
Hilarious! Such a well-placed kick! And then the way he casually turns to look & as if to say, “Oh, looky that… gate’s open. Whaddya know?”😂 And then he doesn’t break for freedom, rather just moseys around investigating. So nice to see his way of going improve with care.
I know! After I calmed down and watched the footage I couldn't stop laughing at him. The hay was stacked perfectly too because we had just picked up some new bales. He destroyed the hay stack LOL
🤣🤣🤣, "oh looky that..."
@@FletcherFarmsAmarillo He's like, if I get into a little mischief and clutter things up, Mom can spend more time in the barn with us. :o) TY for the contents and Liam the gentle giant's progress update. Cheers from N/W Arizona!
His curiosity level and playfulness shows off his intelligence. Another great video showcasing your rescue.
Thank you very much! We appreciate your support!
ACCUPUNCTURE SAVED OUR DOG!! it was a miracle. I hope Liam's results are as dramatic as our were.
I have read so many things about it helping animals and I am hoping for the same thing!
@@FletcherFarmsAmarillo make sure its an expert, not all practioners have real training in chinese medicine 😊
@@ellenmuseum Dr Hardy has been doing acupuncture for 7 years and chiropractic for 10. She was out yesterday and was amazing. New video on the appointment this week! 😉
What a character Liam is❣️Thanks for taking care of him💋💋💋💋❣️☮️
He really is!
Those eyelashes! He's such a good-looking horse... And such a character! He must have been full of beans when he was younger. And it's really good to see his hogged mane growing back in. He is clearly relaxed and enjoying himself at your Farm! Thank you for making a difference to these horses' lives 💛🧡❤️🧡💛
Liam is such a cheeky character!. The way he leisurely investigated the barn after the surprise of finding the gate open😉😂
Its so lovely to see your smile back and enjoying the horses after the heart break with Amara. As always thank you for the love and care you give these retirees Julie Corey and the BHF
Congratulations on 20K subscriptions
Oh my woooorrrd, Julie, Liam is such a PRECIOUS poppet of note! Living his best life, with so much thanks to you and Cory. Just absolutely LOVED watching every second of that video. What you have done and do for this gorgeous giants, is more than PHENOMENAL. Thank you just doesnt seem to say enough x
This is definitely NOT the first time Liam has let himself out of a stall that way. He's a professional!
agreed ! seems like the big guy has done it somewhere else before 😂 but once he was out of "lock up" he was happy to hang around and check things out
Thank you so much for this update about Liam. After the time of grief about the loss of dear Amara it was so good to smile about this rascal who clandestinely went to explore the surrounding! He will be grateful for the comfy bed you made for him. And it is very nice to see the growing tails of the retired gentle giants on your pastures! 👍👍👍
Oh yes BIG Liam sure grew a nice tail!!❤
My horse would ALWAYS put his two front feet in the water trough right after I finished cleaning it. I mean EVERY time. And he INSISTED on drinking from the hose and would do so as long as I let him. Some horses have so much personality, and Liam seems to be one. ❤
Go Liam the big golden boy!
Hi again
A true gentle giant! What a
special guy all 1875 of him. He knows how his life has changed and shows his affection for you Julie. Thank you so much for saving him and giving him the medical help he needs especially the pain management.
To think how he suffered before and then was likely going to
slaughter!
Rescue is a tough thing in several ways but the loss of them has to be the hardest. Just know how ever long they're with you that you will give them
all the TLC possible.
Thx so much for your updates. Catcha next time.
He is such an awesome gentleman. He knows he has hit the jackpot and is truly loved. You and.your.husband are angels.
Liam has just blossomed since he's been with you and Cory, Julie! Who would have thought he'd have such a playful personality after all he's been through?! Its miraculous what you are doing for these beauties!
Any animal who's rescued, knows it and is grateful. I laughed at him being a stinker wondering around the barn. Confirms you're doing a great job! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
@FletcherFarmsAmarillo We recently adopted a senior German Shepard from our local shelter. His personality has blossomed and makes us laugh daily! His favorite toys are squeaky toys, which he loves to play with. Maybe Liam could use a hanging play ball to bat around in his stall?? You all are the best!
@@chrismack5908I have a 9yr old that came 2 me 6mo ago. Lost 2 homes to C19. About to send an update email to prev owners and tell them the good news is she feels comfortable enough 2b bad; the bad news is ..
Always a milestone. Usually takes a but longer. Initial casualties 1 banana stolen right out of the grocery bag, nicely peeled b4 being devoured and 3/4 of a pumpkin pie( thank God it was pumpkin ). Darn I was so looking forward to a piece of pie w my coffee.😊😅🤣😂
He’s such a beautiful big teddy bear of a horse. Such a curious, playful, happy fellow now that he’s getting pain control and lots of loving.
Awwwwwlllll I NEED A BIG LIAM KISS TOOOOO LOL!💙💙💙💙He's so wonderful and sweet. Thank you for going the extra mile to help these guys!!
You are so kind! I will give him kisses for you! Thank you for watching!
Man,that Liams a big boy,and smart and funny. He seems quite happy at Fletchers farm. Thanks for saving him!.
Liam is such a big beautiful boy - I loved how he kicked that door open and slowly decided, well, if its open, may as well have a nosey around - taking his time 🤣🤣 he did leave it a bit devistated, but he needed that extra stimulation, so, he let you know. Poor boy, hobbles around just like me - I know how he feels. I hope the accupuncture works for him. Good he didnt fall down that hole, or that the other retirees didnt pick on him. Love his nose too. He ist just gorgeous 🐎💕💕💕. Great to see you smile again, even if he almost gave you a heart attack Julie, it was worth it. 💕
Liam IS the most beautiful boy❤️🤗
He is walking so much better. It is painful to watch the earlier videos. What a character.
He still has good days and bad days. But seems much better these days. When he’s tired he takes a nap.
I’m so glad Liam survived his great escape. Since he didn’t get hurt we had a chuckle at the footage of his escape and aftermath. He’s so handsome and goofy. I hope the acupuncture works really well. I’ve always heard that light exercise is good for arthritis so it’s nice to see him out with the herd. Thanks for the update. We care! 💖🐴
LMAO oh noooooo I'm dying😂😂😂😂😂😂 I literally think that is the funniest and most cute thing I've ever seen! Apparently he thought he was still locked up LOL because he just didn't know what to do with himself that is so so funny I'm glad he's okay though that could turn really sour fast thank God his angels are looking out for him!🐴💛🐴💛🐴💛🐴💛🐴
Oh my gosh! I know! It's hilarious now but was terrifying when it happened. And the area around the house where he was at is not fenced yet! Thank goodness he stayed in the barn!
@@FletcherFarmsAmarillo we had a little mustang mare when I was about 12...she should have been named Houdini lol
Gentle giant ❤
Every time I watch this clip I am still amazed at how intelligent Liam is! He knows the vet is trying to help him when he stands so quietly for the steroid injections, which have to hurt in those tender arthritic areas of his legs and feet! It is SO apparent what love and caring attention have done for this horse! 'Brings tears to my eye......
Julie, I just realized why Liam wanted to "sit in your lap" during this video. Since he can't see anyone around while you are talking, he must think you are talking to him!
Liam looks fantastic like a Trojan horse with his lovely mane. He is moving more comfortably, it’ll be interesting to see how the acupuncture works on him it is meant to be really effective with horses. Thank you for all you do for the horses, they always thrive in your care and love.
I adore every one of those horses. I vote Liam to be your Horse of the Year! He is such a clown and so nice. What a rep for your organization. Thanks.
Oh Julie what a wonderful character Liam is...and an escape artist🤣.. I am so pleased you have posted this video..the last one with Amara absolutely broke my heart..for you and Cory and for Amara letting you know she has had enough.. but back to this guy..those blond eyelashes..heartbreaker material right there.. his is just so funny..especially in the water..what a goofball..poor boy is in pain..I have osteoarthritis so I know exactly how he feels..some days worst than others...watching his escape video slomo showed how stiff he is but that doesn't stop him from enjoying all that life has to offer..his has friends equine and human and fans galore!!!.. he is a very special boy..what an addition to your wonderful group of retirees.. I know a lot of people would say euthanize him as he is in pain but they'd be WRONG..he CLEARLY is enjoying his life to the MAX. . What you and Cory do for these wonderful animals is amazing Julie.. I look forward to seeing your updates to see how they all are getting on..I love them all..but I must say Liam is my favourite. .great about the acupuncture..I've seen it do wonders for horses in other videos..and it won't be as painful as those steroid injections into the bones. Take it from me. .they bloody hurt..but after a few days the relief they give you is worth it..take care of yourself. .🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👍👏👍👏🐎🐎😃🇺🇸
I love what you are doing with these beautiful giant horses. Thank you so much for this video and for the beautiful final pics of Liam's nose and his big hug. Really, really touched my heart.
Thank you for watching! We appreciate your support and following our story!
Giving him vinegar will help alot❤❤❤❤
Beautify boy. Love his eye lashes! ❤️
I love Liam's personality! Glad to see he gets out and about!
Us too! We were really worried about him when he first arrived here.
God keep him safe. He is still smart. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you for the prayers and watching our video.
How fortunate these horses are to have you; how fortunate you are to have them .
He's absolutely gorgeous ❤❤❤
Thank you!
What a lovely, special and friendly looking horse. Loved how he rested his head on yours. 😊
I cant believe you have either the time or energy to milk goats. Julie has superpowers!
He knew exactly what he was doing to get out .😂 What a big stinker...❤ He has a beautiful tail.
He did! I really thought when I went into the barn that he would have destroyed all the gates but it was just the one and all the hay LOL
Liam is such a handsome (and cute) boy. I just love his fluffy mane and those eyelashes!😮
Just one more comment LOL look at Liam looking at that camera like he's at his own personal photo shoot! I believe that I have found my favorite horse on the planet right now LOL LOL! I just love him.
Thank you! He is a ham when the camera comes out!
He’s a riot rampaging through the barn in slow motion. He was having a wonderful time!
He’s amazing! Thanks for the update 💕❤💕❤💕
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching!
He’s such a handsome boy Liam ❤️
What a personality Liam has so cheeky and funny he has truly blossomed since being with you
Julie, I love watching your videos. Liam is a sweetheart, I loved seeing him hug you. Please give him a hug and kiss for me. When I seen him next to your tractor I was like holy horse, he's a big boy. He's also a smart boy. God bless you for saving him and taking care of him.
Big horse, big personality. I love his eyelashes. Hopefully he finds some relief for his arthritis.
Liam's whole countenance has changed since his pain has lessened and he's getting such good care and love. I bet he would enjoy a big ball to play with.
YES! I need to add those big balls to the amazon wishlist. I think we have a few horses that would like them.
@@FletcherFarmsAmarillo on it!!!
Oh Liam!!! You are blessed that your humans are arranging Accupuncture. It is a wonderful therapy! Have utilized it for arthritis (hands) and headaches for about 25 yrs. Liam-- you behave now. That gate kick was just tooooo well executed for this to be a first time adventure. Can t fool me. ❤😅
@@mj.merdian3497 He doesn't fool us! I think he had done it before as well. After Liams acupuncture I plan to try it myself! I have heard such amazing things about it!
What a gorgeous boy, he seems very content with his new life 🥰
Thank you!
❤Julie you and your husband are really special people. That big beautiful horse really loves you.
Julie.....Thank you for the update on Liam. He and Amara are kind of my favorites (love everything on the farm, really!) .. Liam & Amara both have really white forelocks, manes & tails that look like they had permanents and more gold in their coats & taller than the others. Also have super sweet personalities Sure hope Liam gets to enjoy his retirement now that the steroid injections seem to be working. After his walk-a-bout he seems comfortable with the place & the routine! Thanks for all your updates....they are tremendousley enjoyed. God bless
The big boy looks gorgeous! And he is a character 😂 And an escape artist! So glad he didn’t get hurt on his stunt… Obviously Liam loves water! I was impressed how he gets up after rolling. It looks like he had arthritis going on for quite some time. So glad it is manageable for now and he can enjoy life now safe with you!
Liam is so adorable! And smart too. What a character. ❤💙💚💛💜
I love his gorgeous blonde eyelashes....he is easily your most handsome horse. And while he IS walking better, it is still hard to watch him with those stiff front legs, poor guy!
You and your husband are angels, I’ve always had a dream to do just what you’re doing, you’re blessed!! And Liam is the most handsome of the crew for sure!! :-)
He sure loves you❤❤
What a goofball. 😂😂❤
Such an enjoyable video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Love how Liam show his cuteness troublemaker side ( he needs to learn to do it safely), he all so shows his determination to do what he wants, just like the other Majestic Horses that are on the farm, I to have arthritis and know what the horses that are going through!!!
I have arthritis too so we both limp together some days 🤣
So happy all these horses get to enjoy being free and after lives filled with hard work and abuse
Liam is so sweet. He has such a cute personality, curious, inquisitive, adventurous the way he was roaming around the barn. I can see he is a Mama’s boy. I wish he didn’t have so much stiffness and pain but thanks to the steroid shots, those things are being managed. You are doing a wonderful job!
What a fun boy! Love to see them get into safe trouble. Imagine what a stinker he was as a youngster. Great personality!
You make a great head rest! That is so cute.
I am impressed how much better his movement is now! He is one beautiful, huge Belgian.
Liam has quite the personality. Even on his own he was aware he wasn’t supposed to be in the barn on his own. He thought about going back to his run a couple of times but then thought he would just sneak out the back. Lol. I love how he busted out. Gave the gate to his run a few swift kicks and he is like “success” and he begins to check out the barn. I could see the other horses see him and they were like “oooohh - he is not supposed to do thaaaaat” and they avoided him. Even with his limp he is playful, curious, and has desire to enjoy his life. The hug, by the way - absolutely priceless and makes it all worth every minute.
Liam is one Gorgeous horse! His walking has gotten so much better! Thank you for saving this Gorgeous horse!
God Bless
He has a lovely streak of knowing what he wants and sticking with it!
He is very cute and obviously enjoying his life with you all!
Liam is such a majestic handsome boy. He, & all the herd, is looking so good - loved & cared for - their costs shining & their clear affection for you. They seem to know their needs will be met & they can live without harm. The very expressions on their faces are changed from the terror & confusion of their slaughter house prep. It is hurtful to my soul to know how many beautiful creatures are moving through this gruesome system. Do keep doing what you do & hopefully there are thousands doing what they can to make salvation & love possible. 🤗😍. AND Bless you & Cory AGAIN for all the hardest work. Pray every day Liam's arthritis can be controlled to enable him to enjoy a comfortable retirement for the foreseeable future.
Liam has a lot of personality and he likes new things. He is very curious too.
What a sweetheart…but it’s easy to see how stiff his legs are. You really are taking such good care of him and the rest of the herd!
You, my lady, are the most luckiest girl in the world to have such an over-the-top sweetheart with such a superb personality. Whoever owned him before you didn't deserve him and am so glad beyond words that he is with you on your farm getting all the care he needs and love, omg look how he blossomed with all the love and care you have been giving him, lol I love his cheekiness and his little adventures. lol
I reside in Canada and will help any way I can, there needs to be more people like in this world. 🥰
Liam looks world's better. Great improvement in his coat & mane. He seems to be walking better less stiffness.
Great job
Carry on
When I was a teenager I had this horse at the local stables. When I’d go to be with my horse, I noticed there was this older, big chestnut quarter horse who seemed really neglected in his stall. We got hold of the owners and I got permission to take care of him and exercise him. Billy had a lot of arthritis and inflammation, and he was stiff and limping. Our vet suggested a ground yucca supplement that was sold for just such a thing. Within 3 weeks, 95% of his limp went away. We could tell he was feeling good! I have no idea whether anything like this could help Liam, but I figured I’d mention it just in case. Best wishes to you and all of your amaaaaaazing gorgeous horses!!
Lil' stinker lol. Such an impressive and handsome horse!
He’s having himself a great time! He is so handsome ❤❤❤
Liam is a sweetheart! I love his playful personality, he seems like quite a character! 🥰
What a big lovebug - he certainly enjoys the friendly interactions. He's so cuddly and adorable makes me just want to give him a big bear hug!

Liam's such a character and he loves your hugs
what a beautiful stinker
Liam is looking great, Julie! Just basking in your love & kindness... what a work load he must've had in his former life, poor sweetie 😔... arthritis can be so painful, and probably most senior horses have it in varying degrees, just like humans.
The acupuncture (& some healing warm massages?) should work some miracles...💛🙏🍀
Yeah, they worked him till he couldn't move any longer. People should be required to have a license to own a horse, and not be allowed to abuse them like this.
