Excellent video ! Thank You ! I'm about to do a head gasket change on my 2014 Buick Encore. (same motor). I'm 70 years old with a bad back so not exactly looking forward to the job. This video was my guide this past weekend to fix my vehicle's issue and it was spot on! Thank you for providing this and being so thorough, because of this I had no surprises. I'm also impressed with how well and quickly the v1 kit worked in the car.
I can tell by the sound of the engine you did a good job and no vac leaks. It clacks way less than most cruzes. I did a intake manifold swap previously, but my next move is one of the kits. Video quality was well done.
Excellent presentation, I wished this one had been around back when I had to do mine...lol I also installed the V1 kit and it's still going strong, about a year and a half later.
There’s a guy who designed a “ kit “ for this fix. I think he does some TH-cam videos under the name Dre Dan??? He has a link to the PVC fix kit in the description on one of his videos. My “ issue “ is that I live in Canada so getting some stuff from the USA is harder. It’s puzzling to me that GM has an engine produced from around 2011-2019 that has such a common issue and no one has sued them or they haven’t provided a fix under a “ Bulletin “ to fix this. Then there’s the almost 100% of vehicles problems with the oil feed line to the turbo gumming up because of the heat from the exhaust manifold which results in turbo failure. At least that one is a relatively easy fix. The other pretty much 100% problem is the leaking from the coolant line to turbo that has a partial rubber section that leaks after a few years. All these issues could have been fixed by GM between 20011-2019 with very little effort.
Yep Andrei runs the Dre Dan channel. He's been very active in the Cruze community coming up with a variety of repairs, modifications, and tools to maintain these vehicles. I believe there are multiple bulletins out there addressing the issues, but no recalls since GM provided a fix of thier own. Unfortunately this "fix" is to throw parts at the car and hope it sticks long enough for the customer to trade in. Sad really, nice cars but they aren't built to last anymore
Awesome video on valve cover and pvc problem. I have same problem with my cruze and will try your video fix to save me a $500 job from my mechanic. Thanks again for your professional video on this .
The reason it fails is because of the intake manifold its messing the plastic check vavle. Doorman did a video on why the valve cover fails. They sell a OEM fix (intake manifold) that will keep the vavle cover (pcv) from popping. I replaced mines and have not replace once since then almost 2 years now. But im sure the cover will get old and need replacing one day again but so far so good.
I've heard even those dorman intakes fail.... Source? I had to PCV bypass kit my Dorman intake.. because it failed, at the check valve. When did they upgrade or fix their intakes to not fail exactly like the OEM? Did I miss it?
Pcv valve can temporarily pacify the real problem that's the check valve in intake . The valve cover is quick to replace but intake takes a bit of time to replace. You can do the modification to intake to save money and time !
I changed the PCV valve cover, intake and the connection hose of intake and turbo. But source of the problem happens to be the loose spark plugs, not kidding. After tightening the spark plugs, squiky chirping noise gone away.
Awesome job on the video! I've recently had the P1101 & P0171 lights come on. I just did a cleaning & reset the check engine with no issues... yet! After researching the codes, I'm guess I will be doing both with the upgraded repair kits to stop the nonsense before it happens. Thanks guy.
Excellent job, and video thank you for sharing to the community. On my third valve cover replacement including intake manifold. To bad these are not recall items. l feel GM has us by the gonads!
I got a letter from GM about a year or so ago about my 2011 Cruze. The letter stated that there was a defect in my valve cover and that if I had it repaired they would refund the cost. I furnished a copy of the repair bill and they sent me a check.
Currently modding the mod to shave down brass nut that comes with the kit as it's about 1/16 too wide for the opening. Kinda frustrating. Really happy there's a fix, but watching you knstall with ease and having to fight something that's already been a royal pain in the ass is not helping. Taking a screwdriver to the inner plastic to remove a bit is not an option. Thank God for the vice and the belt sander with 80 grit sand belt that I already had.
These is actually 3 one in the intake and 2 in the hose that connects also u don't need to replace the whole valve cover just gently heat the top cover for the diaphragm and pry the edges and it will come off the get put new diaphragm in and glue the cap back on
These are good engines, when maintained and you check for dexcool leaks in thermostat housing and expantion tank. And the diaphragm in vslve cover is a weak point for sure.
Did you have a chirping, squealing noise?on my 2016 cruz, I had codes P0171, P1101,U0109 show up at the same time as my noise...I do hear a vacuum leak...
Hi ,great job, jus a quick question ,if the original pcv system fails completely ,can this cause oil to sucked up into the Intake causing the vehicle to smoke excessively ?
I did this mod and dont like the connection with the rubber gasket at the manifold there is no actual seal between either the outer brass fitting and washer or the inner brass bolt and its washer only between the inner washer and the manifold so i opted to add a small amount of rtv between all components. Also the fact that the new pcv or check valve now lives under the manifold it is not easily serviceable it might be considered to flip the throttle body adapter and run a longer hose up through the manifold so the check valve lives on top and could be replaced. I used the kit that tee's into the upper tube and didnt use the throttle body adapter but the same applies i wish i had added another barb not included in my kit and located the check above the manifold.
So I noticed at 17:38 you put the new cover on without putting a gasket between the valve cover. Is that normal/okay? Am I not supposed to have a gasket in between my valve cover and my engine? I have had 2. About to replace my cover and put a new gasket on as well unless there’s a reason you did not.. I’ve never seen this change without a gasket in between. I’m no mechanic AT ALL so I’m genuinely asking. Thank you for the video!
This is why the 1.4-turbo failed, because people ignore the symptoms. Got the '12 Sonic 1.8-NA, 91k, no recalls no issues, doesn't even seep oil. In fact, the brakes and AC are factory original.
This is the 3rd time I am fixing this problem. I had a new turbo last summer. I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze LTZ. I started having trouble since about 75000 miles. I absolutely can not wait to get another car. I am stuck with it because I owe too much. I got it with less than 30000 miles in 2016. I am a social worker and I used my car for work on the past. But this PCV crap happens every 1.5 to 2 years. I joke that I need a very large cliff to push this car over. I am totally joking btw.
Whats the little metal retainer clip at the end of the hose called? Dropped mine cant find it and parts for my dealership telling me I have to order the whole hose to get the clip
Hello, I have a question about what this friend puts between the manifold and the throttle, I mainly mean the metal one with four screws that holds it in place because I don't know how to enter it to buy and install it.
We have the same car here in australia badged holden & the best way to fix a cruze is to crush it. The cruze & captiva were part of what finished holden in australia.
I just replaced this in my 2012 cruze the other day and the 2 holes in the timing chain cover are stripped. Was told the only thing I can do is to replace the whole timing chain cover, otherwise it will continue to leak oil because the bolts won't tighten down,
I had the same issue with my 2014 Cruze camshaft cover. The three holes on the left side (near timing chain) were stripped and couldn't be torqued down. I purchased 50MM M6 bolts 8.8 grade from Home Depot, pulled the black sleeves out of the cover that were around the 3 existing bolts and replaced them with the new / longer M6 bolts and it worked like a charm. The holes / threading go deaper than the GM provided bolts so if you get longer ones, you can tighten it down with no problems. I blame the last mechanic who replaced that camshaft cover. They used power tools instead of hand tools to tighten those bolts and stripped the inside threading. Hope this helps anyone who is having this same issue.
You can use helicoils to fix the problem, M10 I believe. For ~$30, the Fix-A-Thread kit at auto parts store comes with everything except the drill bit. I used a 1/4 in this application. Once done, just make sure you don't torque those bolts no more than the 71 in/lbs called for in the book.
I just took my valve cover and intake manifold off and cleaned them both out my car had a lot of carbon deposits basically it was dirty after all that cleaning no more problems running very nice no check engine lights Chevy cruze 2014 1.4 is working perfect at 190.000 miles just need a little TLC
I think this process would be a nightmare on a Sonic because the engine bay is smaller and the intake manifold sits much closer to the firewall, partially under the back of the engine bay opening.
Why not just replace the existing hose that's attached to the rear of the check valve reservoir with an external check valve? This way the check valve action is still in place and the hose can stay connected to the sensor.
My idea was to just replace the hose with a breather but when i took the hose off the intake it created a massive intake leak. I looked inside for a red nipple but I couldn't see one 🤔 I am not having any problems I just wanna stop oil from going through the intake piping
I've got 220K om my 2012 and have now replaced the valve cover 4-5 times. Luckily i work at a Chevy dealer and get the work done on the side and pay employee price for parts, about a 1/4 what a service customer would pay but still a pain to bring it in for the same thing every 2 years!
Well you could try fixing the problem, instead of just replacing the valve cover over and over again. The PCV valve in the intake manifold has failed. Fix that with the cruzekit 3.4
I have a 2014 Cruze & there is whistling sound when I reinstalled the oil cap or oil dip stick. There is a lot of vacuum so it's for sure the Intake rupture PCV round plastic just like you said. I also see a oil leak in the center of the manifold an the car is smoking cause of that oil leak going in & burning out the exhaust system it's a big smoke burning had to stop the car ? How can you help me do it?
Ron Knafel I have a 2011 chevy cruze and i have a code po299 and it didnt come on before i unhooked the turbo sensor thats on the tube by the throttle body. but i hooked it back up and thats when the code came on
If you disconnect the sensor while the battery is still hooked up it will throw a code. Hook up scanner make sure it’s a code to do with that particular sensor if it is clear the code and you should be fine. If there’s something wrong the check engine light will come back on.
I have 300,000 miles on my Cruze and just got a check engine light. Pulled the code and got only P1101. Do you think I have the same problem as you? Or do you think the mass airflow sensor is dirty or needs to be replaced?
That's great! Shows these cars can survive. Try cleaning the maf sensor first. Clear code, if it comes back, then replace. Not a bad idea to do the pcv fix as well. This of course is if you want to put the money into it. Thanks for watching!
@@jungleking007Channel Question, I'm guessing if I hear hissing from the intake manifold that means the PCV has failed, correct? And if that's the case, should I replace the valve cover, also? New MAF sensor did not solve the problem. I hear a loud hissing from top middle of intake manifold. No hissing from valve cover, yet. Thoughts... And thanks for your time in this matter.
I've had my PCV valve cover replaced twice. As a result as of typing this the crankshaft seal is being replaced. 130k miles. PVC was replaced at 68k and 83k miles. I can only imagine what else may go next. Lol
Did you get a P2090 code when you had to seal your crankshaft? I’m in the middle of a nightmare trying to find out why, and where the issue is on my vehicle right now. One option is the crankshaft, but the leading culprit is a vacuum leak in my PCV System so I’m replacing the entire cover. But I’m curious if you had a code similar to mine and if sealing the crankshaft helped with your PCV issues. I know this is an old comment but I hope you see this and can help me out. Thank you. Also at 130k miles.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO,,GREAT PIXLE HD.,DID YOUR CHECK ENGINE GO AWAY FOR THAT PO'CODE I THINK IT WAS PO171 ? ..I HAVE A LOT OF ISSUES WITH MY CAR ,I HAVE A 2011 CHEVY CRUZE TURBO 1.4 ENGINE LT, I HAVE A PO420 CODE THAT WON'T GO AWAY,,I HAVE REPLACED. 1.SPARK PLUGS 2.COIL BAR 3. I USED A CAT CLEANER INTO THE GAS TANK JUST UNDER HALF TANK IF GAS BUT MY CHECK ENGINE KEEPS COMING BACK ON AT AROUND 70 MILES OR RUNNING IT. I STILL GET A PO420 "CATALYST SYSTEM LOW EFFICIENCY BANK #1. CAN YOU HELP ?? THANK YOU
I’m not sure how accurate or true this is as I’ve had to perform the same repair on my cruze. I think these valve covers last much longer when you change the intake as well. I use two tanks of gas per week and have not had to change anything in the pcv system. I hope this helps someone.
I wonder what chcek valve he used - i did similar thing in Genesis coupe 2.0 Different issue but PCV system some similarities - problem is the opening force for my chcek valve was to high (it had default closed state) and it caused rpm fluctuations For the love of good i could not find an air chcek valve that would be default 'open' with very low 'closing' force
Hello friend, congratulations for the video !! I'm talking about Brazil, could you list the parts you used in this modification? I want to do it on my Cruze, thank you very much !!
I have this problem for the 3rd time since buying my 2012 Chevy Cruze in 2016. 1st time I just replaced the valve cover and it was fine. The 2nd time I did both intake manifold and valve cover. Not sure if I should do that again this time around. I really hate this damn car. This is my 4th and last Chevy. I also had a new turbo put in it last year. Mine is the 1.4 L turbo LTZ model.
Well mine is a 1.8 none turbo and it is smoking blue smoke didn’t take intake all the way off when I did the head so not sure if oil was in the intake but man this engine smokes whenever it wants owner says worse on interstate , I finally got it to smoke at his house and smell and saw the blue smoke . Started watching these videos now looking for the update parts if any in gm bulletins .thanks
let me know what you discover. im in the same shoes. swapped the valve cover now im getting airflow in instead of out of the dipstick. i assume thats a good thing, but its burning oil like crazy now.
@@MrMechanicandy 'piston gap' you think the rings are worn? that job sounds like the value of the car. if i keep running it while its burning oil do you think ill get 70k out of it? its at 130 now. i should have purchased the oem valve cover like you did. i get the feeling the aftermarket autozone part may not be allowing the appropriate vacuum.
I don't know how to remove the tubes below the intake manifold. My hands don't reach me. There is also a white tie attached to the manifold and I don't know how to remove it. I can't get the manifold out because of this! The manifold is half removed and I no longer know how to do it. Any ideas?
Great job! Have same type of car, wish you could do my car also. Can't do it myself had a car accident and limited mobility. But I'm trying to find someone to help me out. Thanks for the video
My 2012 cruze, loses power as I go up hill, I did change the Pcv cover couple years ago, now I have the check engine light on again, I'd tried everything else still not working properly, could it be the Pcv cover again?
YES. I bought my Cruze Eco 1.4 turbo brand new in 2011 (2012 model). So far I have had to replace the valve cover three times due to the PCV issue, and it is just beginning to run rough again so I'll probably replace it again this year. If yours is losing power pretty badly and it's the 1.4 turbo, go have your turbo checked out. Ours went out last year and we paid $1100 to have the turbo fixed. Good luck with yours.
Question: My son's 2015 Chevy Sonic LTZ has this engine, and we got the damn P0299 code (low boost). This happened in 2020, as well, just four weeks after we bought the car, and we had to replace the turbocharger. I am doubting (and obviously praying) it is not the turbo again 7,000 miles later, but it's a vacuum leak within the system. In looking into this I have found LOADS of info on these PCV problems/leaks. So I'm wondering if anyone has had PCV system leaks and had experienced a P0299 DTC. I had a few hours with the car today and this DTC is in the system as a Pending and Permanent code. Clearing it turns the light out, but the permanent code remains. I test drove it - short and long - including a few hard accelerations - and it felt and sounded good, though I do believe it should feel stronger. The problem happened when my son was coming home last night and he said there was a huge loss in acceleration after 35-40 mph. I believe whatever the problem is - a leak most likely - it's small because the symptoms are minimal.
I have a customer with one of these heaps, and im trying to prevent me from eventually becoming the bag guy. Shes missing the check valve nipple and there appears to be little oil in the upper charge pipe to throttle body, but the car runs normally. Not knowing what other techs did with this car, not to mention what shes spent on it with me, Im thinking of not bothering with the PCV system until there is a pressed reason to do so. Any thoughts?
It could go at any time, and cause other issues. If they are running it into the ground, the kit is a small investment to keep it on the road and not stranding your customer.
If you are bypassing the factory PCV system, with the kit, why replace the factory PCV hose that runs from the intake to the turbo (Ac Delco part #25193343)??? I’m about to undertake this project and wondered, if I was drilling the intake and blocking off the factory PCV system, with epoxy and a screw, why put the new PCV hose on? Not trying to undermine you, just trying to save a few bucks on the hose. Thanks. BTW, great video, has helped me A LOT.
Because the line is getting brittle, like one of the cheapest plastic there is, why didn't they used rubber noone knows except for the profit. If that line breaks it's like 60 or 70 bucks for something that should be fixable with a 5 buck normal brake booster check valve
You stated that what you thought was the pcv was not the problem, and that it was in fact not a pcv valve, but a diaphram, but then you said you would go ahead and change the valve cover again. If the diaphram (valve cover) was not the problem, why would you change the valve cover?
Do you have any clue if doing this would void any warranty? I have a 2015 sonic with an extended warranty. It runs ok, but its been gradually starting to leak from almost every oil seal its got. The valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, crankshaft seal, and camshaft seals have all been replaced and the oil cooler seal, oil cap seal, and valve cover gasket (again) are all leaking/seeping currently (there is also some oil that has seeped out of the turbo intercooler tube which suggests the turbo seals are leaking too). The orange check valve in the intake is present and as i said before the cars runs ok. I have the v1 kit, throttle body spacer, and new valve cover in my posession already, but i was just wondering if its worth doing all this work just yet or just wait till the check valve goes away on its own?
Hard to say, depends on the dealership that would perform the warranty service work. the PCV kit shown in this video is technically not a sanctioned Chevrolet repair so could fall under the definition of an engine modification. However, I would argue it fixed an ongoing issue GM failed to warranty correctly in the first place. If it were me, I would go ahead with the repair simply for convenience. if It's been shown to fix an ongoing issue, it should help reduce or eliminate a warranty trip to the dealer. If I'm not mistaken the burden of proof lies with the dealer/manufacturer to prove what caused the need to warranty a certain part in the first place. (Disclaimer: not a lawyer or ASE certified mechanic, always consult vehicle literature or manufacturer/dealer directly for proper guidance. Remember, I'm just a guy on TH-cam...)
I am running version one of that kit. It brought my mpg from 23mpg at 50mph to 42 mpg at 80 mph (average over an 800 mile trip). Now I get 27 mpg on regular gas and 42-46 mpg on 93 octane.
What was the car doing before you made the repair... was it able to move...was it shaking....was it burning a lot of gas... you never said... you just saw the code and you just changed whatever or upgraded whatever but how was the car running before you did the repair we all would like to know that
It burns oil, rough idle, rough idle when engine cold, squeeky noises near the accesory belt area, coolant leaks, oil leaks from all the gaskets that is old and sometimes even the new gaskets, also valve cover diaphragm blown out every year or every few months
Hey bro not sure if you’re still active here or not, would you just recommend the most up-to-date kit from the website? I believe it’s like the v3 right now, I have the 1.4L as well figured you can save me some research time. Thanks
I'm still here. Life has gotten in the way of personal content creation so I haven't been able to post anything. As for the kits, Think he's on V3.4 now. He still offers the version in this video, but I can't speak for the most current design. Reviews state it's not very difficult to install and so far little to no issues. I'd check out his website for more details. Thanks!
Did you add a gasket under your manifold? I noticed he did not in this video. I had to replace mine twice to stop oil from getting into my spark plugs and other parts of my intake as well. If you used a gasket and still had this problem did you ever find a solution?
Question: I have a 2020 Chevy Sonic 1.4 Lt. It does not have a turbo. Would the fix for the intake manifold described also work on my Sonic? Also, what is the aluminum spacer on the intake for?
Yes. I also have a sonic. 2015 but it is a turbo 1.4L. But If you click the link to the fox kit you can see the models this kit works on and both of ours are included.
Actually I’m sorry I just double checked yours is a 2020.. so I’m not sure. The best way to find out is to see if the intake manifold is the same as the 2012-2015 ones. If they are the same part, then yes this will work exactly the same. You can go to eBay, and find a 2015 Chevy 1.4l intake manifold and there is an option to see if it will fit your vehicle in your “garage”. Once you type in the 2015 intake manifold you should see an option that says, “see if this fits my vehicle”. From there you simply put in the year, make and model and it will tell you if it fits on your make and model or not. If it does, then the answer is absolutely yes because the parts are exactly the same. If not, then unfortunately this probably won’t work but you can still visit the website where these are available and see if one of the other kits will work for yours. But I’d say it will work. I doubt they changed this part on the 2020 models and the turbo doesn’t matter so long as the manifold is the same. I hope this helps. I’m not a mechanic but I know a lot about parts for these models as I’ve been doing research on them for months to find out exactly why I’m getting a P2090 code. Most people think it’s a solenoid issue in the crankshaft timing system but I actually had a vacuum leak from my PCV system and could not find the part to fix it besides the valve cover which would just break again within a few months if I am lucky. So instead I am just going to do this process and bypass the entire thing, then replace the cover still just to make sure the intake valve on the cover is working properly and hopefully that will clear my code.
Chevy never put a 1.4L non-turbo on the Sonic. The non-turbo is a 1.8L engine the only model they had in 2020 the is a 1.4 L non-turbo is on the Spark which is the LV7 engine.
Up close after the repair, that engine has another sound I’m not familiar with. I’ve got an Encore with same engine and I don’t think mine sounds like that.. Kinda sounded like either slight rod knock or piston slap.. not sure. I’ll have to listen to mine again up close…I dunno…maybe I was just hearing things but it didn’t sound quite right to me.
I got my eyes on a 2011 Chevy Cruise 1.6 LPG-gas with 117.000 miles, dealer is asking 7000 dollars for it. I really like the exterior and interior of the vehicle, i currently own a hatchback and this Chevy looks ideal to my family room requierements, i don't mind changing oil, filteres, sparkplugs, waterpump, coil covers as soon as i buy it, i would like to keep it for over 8-10 years, do you think it's a good deal and what is your opinion on this? Also what other part replacements should i look for to do after i purchase it based on your experience?
omg are you crazy? first of all they are selling it way overpriced, and second of all you're taking a huge gamble on this car if u want it to last that long, it will cost you a fortune maintaining it.
OE hood prop is fine. Used a longer prop for better access. Multiple cameras running and me moving around, the prop moved the hood to a higher angle out of the way.
@@jungleking007Channel ah okay. How many miles was on your cruze when you had to replace all those parts?. What does it have on it now?. Or do you still have it even?
I heard a crazy solution to these engines from a turkish guy: replacing the thermostat with a lower temperature one. This engine is working in much higher temp. than usual cars therefore comes up most of the problems..what do you think about this solution?
Normally running an engine at a warmer temperature helps with fuel efficiency. that is why these sit around 200f and the ECU is typically programed around these stock parameters. Running a cooler Thermostat might have negligible results if only a few degrees difference, but swinging 10+ degrees might yield a reduction in engine performance. I haven't been one to experiment too much with my car at the moment since its my only Daily.

Thanks, about to embark on this repair to my sons 2012, this vid was VERY helpful, Im not a mechanic..Thank You
How did it go? I'm a wannabe mechanic and going to attempt these same repairs. Any advice? Thanks!

I changed the PCV valve cover, intake and the connection hose of intake and turbo. But source of the problem happens to be the loose spark plugs, not kidding.
After tightening the spark plugs, squiky chirping noise gone away.
That was your problem
Awesome job on the video! I've recently had the P1101 & P0171 lights come on. I just did a cleaning & reset the check engine with no issues... yet! After researching the codes, I'm guess I will be doing both with the upgraded repair kits to stop the nonsense before it happens. Thanks guy.
Got 100,000 miles on my v2 kit now.. Still works flawlessly.
Excellent job, and video thank you for sharing to the community. On my third valve cover replacement including intake manifold. To bad these are not recall items. l feel GM has us by the gonads!
Valve cover is a recall and they tell people it's not.
I got a letter from GM about a year or so ago about my 2011 Cruze. The letter stated that there was a defect in my valve cover and that if I had it repaired they would refund the cost. I furnished a copy of the repair bill and they sent me a check.
Is this also for the 2012 ltz? I'm dealing with this issue now. Just bought it about a month and half ago.
@@donnaharman4050 yes if you must purchase use Dorman products. Good luck!
@@willeb522 thank you. Was in the process of finding that out by watching videos like this. I do much research before my projects lol.
Excellent Camera 📸 work -very informative video. Thank you very much.
Excellent instruction method. Clear and concise. Thank you.
Do the a16xer also have a pcv valve in addition to the diaphragm in the valve cover?
Currently modding the mod to shave down brass nut that comes with the kit as it's about 1/16 too wide for the opening. Kinda frustrating. Really happy there's a fix, but watching you knstall with ease and having to fight something that's already been a royal pain in the ass is not helping. Taking a screwdriver to the inner plastic to remove a bit is not an option. Thank God for the vice and the belt sander with 80 grit sand belt that I already had.
Why have the hose return to the intake? Why not let him dangling on the outside of the engine? Will it pull air through that hose?
These is actually 3 one in the intake and 2 in the hose that connects also u don't need to replace the whole valve cover just gently heat the top cover for the diaphragm and pry the edges and it will come off the get put new diaphragm in and glue the cap back on
Great job with a little comedy thrown in. Thanks for the video!
These are good engines, when maintained and you check for dexcool leaks in thermostat housing and expantion tank.
And the diaphragm in vslve cover is a weak point for sure.
Amazing job!... thank you for making this video...
Doorman has a good one that actually has a metal clip on the valve inside the intake.
So glad I let my Sonic get repoed many years ago.
The gasket was probably already installed on the underside of the new cover.
Even original oem valve cover gasket keeps messing up i replaced about 4 times already 🧐🥶🥶🤑🕵🏻 wish they were built better
I just took my valve cover and intake manifold off and cleaned them both out my car had a lot of carbon deposits basically it was dirty after all that cleaning no more problems running very nice no check engine lights
Chevy cruze 2014 1.4 is working perfect at 190.000 miles just need a little TLC
you reused ur old cover? is it still running well?
Awesome job dude, keep up the good work 👌👍✌️🤜🤛
I think this process would be a nightmare on a Sonic because the engine bay is smaller and the intake manifold sits much closer to the firewall, partially under the back of the engine bay opening.
good thing u have 3.4 versio now when u can install the fix without removing intake manifold
@@TuomoParkkinen Thanks for the heads-up on v3.4 I wasn't aware that existed. Sounds way easier than replacing the manifold.
Hi, thanks for uploading the video! Great job! Why did you pick kit version 1 over the two newer versions?
Why not just replace the existing hose that's attached to the rear of the check valve reservoir with an external check valve? This way the check valve action is still in place and the hose can stay connected to the sensor.
My idea was to just replace the hose with a breather but when i took the hose off the intake it created a massive intake leak. I looked inside for a red nipple but I couldn't see one 🤔 I am not having any problems I just wanna stop oil from going through the intake piping
Thanks for your video !!!
Its really helped me .
Saludos desde El Salvador !!
Thanks so much !
I have a chevy sonic 2016
I've got 220K om my 2012 and have now replaced the valve cover 4-5 times. Luckily i work at a Chevy dealer and get the work done on the side and pay employee price for parts, about a 1/4 what a service customer would pay but still a pain to bring it in for the same thing every 2 years!
Well you could try fixing the problem, instead of just replacing the valve cover over and over again. The PCV valve in the intake manifold has failed. Fix that with the cruzekit 3.4
Already bought my kit and am just waiting for the next time the PCV system shits out.
That sounds like your crank seal has sealed its last crank.
If you get the Dorman intake manifold it has the fix for the issue that happens and you don’t have to do band aid fix shown in the video.
Is it part # 615 380, I just installed one on my cruze
This Dorman does not fit 2011 though, reportedly for some reason
Hello. At 28:02 i would like to know what is this cylindrical element at the right which is connected to petrol arrival tube ???? Thx
Did anyone have a lot of vibrating noise in the engine bay when there pcv crapped out? Sounds like something loose?
I have 300,000 miles on my Cruze and just got a check engine light. Pulled the code and got only P1101. Do you think I have the same problem as you? Or do you think the mass airflow sensor is dirty or needs to be replaced?
And yes, you're reading it right. I have 300,000 miles on my car.

Have your o2 sensors tested. one or both are probably disconnected or have failed.
I’m not sure how accurate or true this is as I’ve had to perform the same repair on my cruze. I think these valve covers last much longer when you change the intake as well. I use two tanks of gas per week and have not had to change anything in the pcv system. I hope this helps someone.
If the valve or nipple in the intake sticks or ends up being sucked through I will cause failure in the valve cover.
The failed diaphragm on the valve cover is usually the sign to inspect the intake for the failed check, and install this or equivalent PCV kit.
@@jungleking007Channel Also check your #2 and #3 plugs. If they're oil-fouled, you've lost the valve.
Around 9:30 what is the small nipple a part of? I broke it...
I wonder what chcek valve he used - i did similar thing in Genesis coupe 2.0
Different issue but PCV system some similarities - problem is the opening force for my chcek valve was to high (it had default closed state) and it caused rpm fluctuations
For the love of good i could not find an air chcek valve that would be default 'open' with very low 'closing' force
The guy who made the kit listed the parts in his website I believe.
Hello friend, congratulations for the video !! I'm talking about Brazil, could you list the parts you used in this modification? I want to do it on my Cruze, thank you very much !!
Anche per Opel funziona questo kit? visto che è lo stesso motore
Had you ever had oil coming out your oil cap, or blowing your cap off
Not that I recall.
Awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to do this. How much did you spend for the entire project? Aproximately. Thanks
probably about $250 when all tallied. The PCV hose to the turbo probably didn't need replaced so that may save some money if they still work on yours
Replace the valve cover, install the kit on the intake manifold and you should be good to go.
from italy .very good work on the collector. but I didn't understand why you closed the conduits?
Superb video. Thank you very much.
Coolant leak somewhere?
Did you check the reservoir? Mine was leaking from the bottom and it had been replaced less than a year so I didn't think to look at it.
Check all nearby coolant hoses
Did the new kit v3 do away with the throttle body adapter
Believe so. Think the kit builder is on a v4 kit now that integrates into the port on top of the intake.
How much would this all cost at a mechanic?
Did u ever figure this problem out ?
If that line breaks it's like 60 or 70 bucks for something that should be fixable with a 5 buck normal brake booster check valve
was it creating extra crankcase pressure before doing this?
Think it was too much vacuum, but the issue goes both ways.
You stated that what you thought was the pcv was not the problem, and that it was in fact not a pcv valve, but a diaphram, but then you said you would go ahead and change the valve cover again. If the diaphram (valve cover) was not the problem, why would you change the valve cover?
Because the diaphragm ruptures as a result of the failed check valve in the intake manifold
It's been a year now so my question is that is your Cruze still ok or any problem please share with us
Running just fine. No issues so far!
Wow man great video it looks kind a easy where i can get the throttle body spacer?
I put everything in the description
Is the high octane good for these engines?
@@Randylongoria81 it makes the turbo feature work.
Is it ok if I just don't fix this?
Sorry what's the pcv valve? What is her work ?
Does the intake manifold have a check ball?
No, the pcv check in the intake manifold is a rubber flapper.
What was the car doing before you made the repair... was it able to move...was it shaking....was it burning a lot of gas... you never said... you just saw the code and you just changed whatever or upgraded whatever but how was the car running before you did the repair we all would like to know that
I'd like to know that too
It burns oil, rough idle, rough idle when engine cold, squeeky noises near the accesory belt area, coolant leaks, oil leaks from all the gaskets that is old and sometimes even the new gaskets, also valve cover diaphragm blown out every year or every few months
My Chev Cruz LT 2014 none turbo is crunkling but not starting. What could be the problem?
Hey bro not sure if you’re still active here or not, would you just recommend the most up-to-date kit from the website? I believe it’s like the v3 right now, I have the 1.4L as well figured you can save me some research time. Thanks
I'm still here. Life has gotten in the way of personal content creation so I haven't been able to post anything. As for the kits, Think he's on V3.4 now. He still offers the version in this video, but I can't speak for the most current design. Reviews state it's not very difficult to install and so far little to no issues. I'd check out his website for more details. Thanks!
Wish you would have shown exactly where that clip is at 8:20. I’m unable to locate it. Otherwise good video
Sorry, thought I made that clear, underside of intake manifold, off the passenger side of engine.
No worries, I was able to still get it out. Just based on the video it was hard to see. Thanks for the reply! Again great video.
what do you think the best version of fix ? I have also oil leak on the intercooler intake hose (left side)
My 2012 turbo Cruze Eco sounds exactly like that, and it has since I drove it off the lot brand new with only 7 miles on the odometer.
I got my eyes on a 2011 Chevy Cruise 1.6 LPG-gas with 117.000 miles, dealer is asking 7000 dollars for it.
I really like the exterior and interior of the vehicle, i currently own a hatchback and this Chevy looks ideal to my family room requierements,
i don't mind changing oil, filteres, sparkplugs, waterpump, coil covers as soon as i buy it,
i would like to keep it for over 8-10 years, do you think it's a good deal and what is your opinion on this?
Also what other part replacements should i look for to do after i purchase it based on your experience?
omg are you crazy? first of all they are selling it way overpriced, and second of all you're taking a huge gamble on this car if u want it to last that long, it will cost you a fortune maintaining it.
DONT BUY A CRUZE !!!
One thing I wanna know is....why didnt you just use the hood prop rod to hold the hood up?. Is it broken?
OE hood prop is fine. Used a longer prop for better access. Multiple cameras running and me moving around, the prop moved the hood to a higher angle out of the way.
@@jungleking007Channel ah okay. How many miles was on your cruze when you had to replace all those parts?. What does it have on it now?. Or do you still have it even?
Nice man
It's so helpful for me
Do you think that after 2 years maybe you fixed it but it failed again
I heard a crazy solution to these engines from a turkish guy: replacing the thermostat with a lower temperature one. This engine is working in much higher temp. than usual cars therefore comes up most of the problems..what do you think about this solution?
Normally running an engine at a warmer temperature helps with fuel efficiency. that is why these sit around 200f and the ECU is typically programed around these stock parameters. Running a cooler Thermostat might have negligible results if only a few degrees difference, but swinging 10+ degrees might yield a reduction in engine performance. I haven't been one to experiment too much with my car at the moment since its my only Daily.
my engine light is not on and my car runs fine after changing valve cover but i cant get it to stop leaking oil could this be my problem
Makes me wonder if it helped the mpg further
I believe it did. No more massive vacuum leak killing performance.
Sure, vacuum leak vs. no vacuum leak; i meant i wondered about that modification you performed; stock vs. kit mod
