  • Kevin Peter Pietersen MBE is a cricket commentator, conservationist, and former England international cricket player. He is a right-handed batsman and occasional off spin bowler who played in all three formats for England between 2005 and 2014, which included a brief tenure as captain. Nasser Hussain interviews him in depth about his time in cricket.

Goughie summed it up for me ,everybody wants to play like him now.Understood that batsman are there to score runs not occupy the crease and that even the best bowlers are intimidated by all out attack. On a personal note he's now just as good as a commentator and shows his true big heart in his conservation work, thanks for the memories, genius

Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Flintoff and Ian Botham. Shared characteristics? Ability to play at a whole new level and........ really hard to manage. We don't understand how they are so good and they don't understand why we're not! It's not a new thing in sport. John McEnroe, Maradona, George Best etc etc. They are on a different level and we have to appreciate that for good and bad. KP was the most amazing batsman I have ever watched play. In the video he hit that mid foot leg side flick through mid wicket. The commentator mentioned Sir Viv. Now we all know how incredibly amazingly cool Viv was but he never hit a shot like that. Feels weird to write it but I think KP was a better batsman in his day than Sir Viv was in his.

Aside from the 2005 Ashes and then the golden 2009-2012 period, England were a poor side across all formats for much of Kevin’s career. His brilliance with the bat was often the only thing dragging them over the line to the occasional win or draw. I can completely understand why he is not everyone’s cup of tea as a person, but as a cricketer: inarguably superb.

The best thing to come out of Kevin being dropped, Was seeing England lose game after game because of him not being in the team. Kevin asked Andrew Strauss what he needed to do to get back in the England team, Strauss said score runs. So he goes and scores 355*, Still not good enough. The Bloody Bastards.

KP was lazy. I was in Dubai watching him bat against Pakistan. Pakistan made a field change putting someone in leg slip, and he didn't even look. I remarked on this to my friends and the very next ball, he was caught by leg slip playing a stupid shot. We all laughed at how prophetic it was, after a few expletives. Fine player on his day, but a liability.

      1) It wasn't Strauss who said Pietersen would be back if he scored runs for Surrey, it was that idiot Colin Graves. 2) Why is one innings, against a side that hadn't won in two years and were at the bottom of Division 2, meant to be some instant gateway to the England team? His other scores that season were 19, 53*, 32, 8* and 2, not unalloyed success. If any Tom Dick or Harry scores a double-hundred against Leicestershire, are they guaranteed a place in the next Test? Add to that his rampant ego and destructiveness in any dressing room he goes near. 3) What sort of England cricket fan can you be that you want England to lose just because some narcissist isn't in the team?

As an aussie, i wasnt happy that kp did that textgate and shouldnt be back in the England team in the first place and i guess kp was a difficult person to deal with and i underdtand he wants to do ipl, then do it and ecb should have chekced his schedule and work it out

As an England fan, I think his 186 in Mumbai was even better. In the 2012 test series. We're still the last away team to win a test series in India.

He left sa to be the best because South Africa was in their best group of players at that time and he would have been overshadowed but at the end it bite him big time

Genius talent, but I still feel he could have become an even better player if he had a different head. The biggest enemy of Kevin Pietersen was not a bowler or other person, but Kevin Pietersen himself.

He was in the business of making runs, not making friends, + he handled his business like no one else in an England shirt ever has.
Botham wouldn't have won any popularity contests, either, it's really not important, although his mum might not agree with that..............

Kevin was a player who needed a sense of security, which Vaughan gave him, and he flourished... England wanted to tame him like others, which wasn't possible ..it will be very difficult to find someone like Kevin. Root is good, but not at Kevin's level

England have always had a problem where they pick players that are nice and get along but they don't pick the actual match winners cause they don't get Along or there not team men as an Aussie cricket fan yous just manage to stuff each selection up

At the time though, I don't understand why pick players who are nice doesn't perform well, pick players who has performed well and right now the selections are right for England

KP was a good batter. Whilst still in SA ,he was very much a normal/average up & coming cricketer. I think he became the most confident cricketer of all time (slightly behind Warne) moving to/playing in/for England. His confidence made him become a really good cricketer. But still nowhere near a genius.....

  • @ramsha2000

All that grudge against Kevin was due to where he originally came from. It was classic English hypocrisy and nothing else.

  • @ramsha2000

It's a trait of the English to waste time on philosophising the trivia and hiding the substance. KP was the substance of English batting. But was he English?
