1 year on and it still feels like naivety cost us the Ashes, yes the weather in Manchester ruined a possible win but those first 2 Tests we saw some Village thinking, not what you need in an Ashes battle, will be remembered forever for Broadys' finish, shame it wasn't that alongside regaining the Urn
Yes, village is the right word - plus too much kool aid - and who ever gave Ben Stokes his talking points should be very embarrassed. I hope he doesn't actually believe the rubbish he was sprouting. If he does, the self-delusion is incredible. The Ashes is about winning. Everything else is usually secondary. A lot of the cricket in 1970-71 was tedious, however Ray Illingworth justifiably returned as a hero for winning the Ashes back, same with Hutton in 1954-55. Except for Old Trafford, almost everything possible went in England's favour and they still couldn't manage a series win. They might want to start with picking a team that will stay together for a decent period. The results and turnover of players over the 2 years under this leadership group has shown that the batting is good on flat wickets and small grounds against mediocre bowling and that the seam bowling needs favourable home conditions to be a chance against good batsmen. I hope for England's sake, the have found a wicketkeeper they will stick with. YJB should not have been selected as keeper over Foakes after Edgbaston. Foakes was excellent in India, however Jamie Smith looks good so far in that role and will probably make more runs.

Manchester was unfortunate, however the impending weather was well telegraphed. As distinct from Edgbaston, Ben Stokes forgot the team and this time waited too long at Old Trafford to declare on a very flat pitch. He wanted YJB to get a hundred to make up for his problems earlier in the series. As well as YJB played, England was racing against the closk in good batting conditions. The team comes first and this, plus the hundred partnership between Marnus and MM, plus average bowling from Jimmy and Stuart Broad, cost England any chance of winning within the time allowed. Wood and Woakes were both relatively fresh and it showed, as England were almost entirely reliant on them for wickets. Stuart Broad bowled very well in this series. I really rate his performance as one of the best of his career, as the problem with Bazball and Stokes are that they require flat pitches on small grounds. That did not help Jimmy and Stuart Broad when they were mostly bowling at less than 85 mph. He managed to get some swing and seam movement at critical times for England. To his credit, SB knew that his time had come. Tours to India and Australia were going to be a bridge too far.

@@sofiakhan4131 umm, you do realize that the crowds in Leeds and Manchester are just as feral and rowdy as the Aussie crowds? The abuse they were giving the touring Aussie supporters in the stands was much worse than the drunks in Bay13 or the Gabba.
@@eyecontrol4900 They are nothing compare to how Aussies are in reality
@@sofiakhan4131 you've never been to Headingly, Edgbaston or Old Trafford have you? The english are just as feral as the aussies. All the drunks and rowdy football hooligans abuse the opposition teams. No different to Bay13 at the MCG or the bogans at Gabba or Waca.
Cricket is the greatest most entertaining sport in the world ❤
Its Always Ben Stokes With The Winning Runs
I loved the ashes and I love cricket
As a Brit I’ve watched the test the Australian doc and they are a way better team with better people
This is class
Mark wood what a guy 😂 he's so funny
to be honest. the change of ball in 5th test 5th day was not fair because it wasn't like to like replacement that saved england otherwise they were down.
Yep. The Aussies were very gracious in not making a bigger stink about it. Unlike the crowd at Lords, they accepted the umpires' decision and got on with it.
I don't think cricket gets any better than this series
Quality circket very good
oh man what amazing thing you guys made
i love English cricket man from cricket to ground to highlights to everything

Ashes are competitive in England 🏴, they aren’t in Australia. At all.
That is correct. YJB, Joe Root and Ben Stokes have never played in a test win in Australia.
@@johnpsalinger173wating 2025 /26 series 💀
No way man!!! I say england and australia are competitive in their own way.
