hi guys, this is the official video. this is so good for its time, they broke commercial records globally from 1982 until 1987-88, where they were just everywhere. in a time where you had no internet, no mobile phones etc. you heard these guys all the time, on tv and radio, and video, for 4-6 years. they were super big - i can not state how much of a super group they were. i think this will give you some more idea about what made them so unique - but also what pissed so many of the music establishment off about them. they were seen to be high fashion, chasing models, and pretty boys more than musicians. all true, except they could actually play music as well. cheers, Matt actually one more thing: did you know duran duran have a whole album that was written and completed in 2005/2006 that has never been released. the original guitarist fell out with the band at the time, so they ditched the record and opted to write a whole new one when andy taylor parted ways. it might be about to be released soon some 20 years later !

It’s hard to overstate what an impact their videos had at the time, when music videos were still brand new and most bands were just doing studio/concert videos, but DD were making gorgeous, lush, dreamy, adventurous videos like this one. They were just mind blowing the first time I saw them on MTV. Truly groundbreaking.
Not to mention their music!! Ear-gasams for days!
Sri Lanka. The scenes were filmed atop the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, among the ruins of a Buddhist temple at Polonnaruwa and the island's southern coastline. A beautiful song, and an incredible album which included this song, Hungry Like The Wolf and Rio!
One of the most extraordinary and beautiful songs ever written…And 40+ years later DD are still backing it up with amazing new music…Musical snobbery has no place here……DD created magic out the gate and continue to do so to this day, 2024. Let's count our blessings for being here to enjoy it.

Omg yes!! Aside from all of their spectacular talent, creativity and ambition (the music press couldnt stand them bc they were jealous), They were absolutely gorgeous!!! Just Naturally! We were all love struck! They had natural sex appeal, even for us innocent teens! They came off as fun, intelligent, worldly and just over all great guys! And seriously how many of us girls back then would never get over them!! ❤ I still love John Taylor!!😂
One of the best songs ever written (my opinion). Love this song! The lyrics are amazing, the instrumentation gives you an emotional feeling and you cannot but love it. This video was huge and so was this band. I used to do my very best to dress like this band in high school, as did many others. This band was such an influence. The video was shot is Sri Lanka, along with "Hungry Like the Wold". Both directed by Russel Mulcahey. The song revolves around a chance meeting between two people that flares into a one-off sexual encounter. Le Bon described the lyric as "realistic, and not romantic." Mulcahey took the lyrics and created a video that was beautiful with images, which is a contrast to the lyrics Simon wrote.
This is one of the most beautiful music videos ever! The video was filmed on location in Sri Lanka. If I remember well Andy, the guitarrist, got sick from the water while filming with the elephants. DD were video kings! They even made a zombie music video from their song Night Boat before Michael Jackson's Thriller. Thanks to Matt for always requesting Duran Duran!

Woohoo, another Duran Duran song. And a classic at that. Save a Prayer is such a beautiful song with Simon's amazing lyrics. This song is so beautiful live. From the first time i heard it live when I lied to my parents (1986, I was 14) and my best friend & I, along with her older sister and her boyfriend we took a 9 hour Greyhound bus ride to see them live. Would have been worth it if we'd been caught but I was in my 30s before coming clean to my mom about it, lol. And it's been great at every live show since. What can I say, I'm a Duranie for life (and I have the tattoos to prove it)

Imagine being a 14 years old freshman in high school, in Louisville, and seeing this. Life changing.
There are 3 videos of songs off of Rio that were filmed in Sri Lanka. This one, Hungry Like the Wolf and Lonely in your Nightmare. The scenery fits the songs completely. I think all three videos are exceptionally made, but between the song and video, this one is the masterpiece.
You are right about the location of the videos. And just to add, part of the Lonely In Your Nightmare video was made in London but primarily in Sri Lanka.
Bought the Rio album in 1982on LP vynal played it constantly this song always stood out one off my favourites .👌
i always said, this band are always underestimed. The sold million and millions of albums but in the 80's they are a boys band for alots of people and the people not always listening the very good music this band make . and they are good musician to . I’m a longtime DD fan my kids even know! I’ve always told them when I pass on someday this is one of the songs I want played. No joke I want a party with all DD played.
The video was filmed in Sri Lanka. Absolutely stunning video. Beautiful song. I’ve always loved it, since it came out. I was a teenager then. The bad things said about Duran Duran were from jealousy mostly. They were very cool and gorgeous but different and from England. Girls went wild! Guys didn’t want to look too feminine by liking them, well some felt that way. It was a different time in society.
I don't get that. I am a guy and many of us were Duran Duran fans (still am) back in the early 1980s. You were mostly either a New Waver or a Rocker during this era & many Waver's were into Duran Duran & were not hesitant to let it be known. It would be known either by wearing DD t-shirts or wearing DD buttons on your shirt or on your Levi's denim jacket(s).
And if you were a "Waver" you didn't care what others thought. We expressed ourselves with our haircuts, hair-dyes and through our fashion. If there were insecure guys who liked Duran Duran, I'd say they were few of amongst the many guys who were opened to liking the band.
@@billw715 I was born in 1969. I was a new waver. I’m not sure what you are trying to explain to me? To them in general to help those who don’t know,sure. I was simply stating that some people, mainly males, didn’t like them so much. I assume because they were beautiful and it did become pop music later as well. Yes lots of guys liked them. Yes people in the alternative scenes were not following those general rules about gender.

You are right. The Hungry Like The Wolf video was filmed in Sri Lanka along with Lonely In Your Nightmare (also filmed in London). Rio, along with Night Boat, was filmed in Antigua in the Caribbean.

John is probably my favorite bass player, but I think a lot of people overlook Nick Rhode's keyboards, and how they drive a lot of their songs.
I think you should listen to both Power Station (John Taylor, Andy Taylor, Robert Palmer etc.), with their sort of funky rock, and Arcadia (Simon Lebon, Nick Rhodes, and lots of guest musians), with their experimental esoteric album. Please give both bands a listen or two.

I know you like the heavier & more guitar based songs. They are worthwhile,thanks. Vertigo (Do The Demolition) from the Notorious album is another worthy of your attention.
They dropped Simon and Nick with a helicopter on top of that mountain ...it seemed to be a very sacred place but they dind't know that at the time...from what i've read they had to get out of there very fast because the monks where very angry about that ;-)

It was great when it happened. However, Its getting harder and harder to see young people react to these old songs. You guys just dont see what we saw decades ago.

That's your own issue & your own myopic restriction, mate to say, "You guys just dont see what we saw decades ago." Of course it is if you are asking them to see it in every detail like people from that era because they weren't around decades ago; therefore, I wouldn't expect anyone being raised in their own generation to entirely see "what we saw decades ago." Why would you have this expectation of them? Let them experience what they experience as only they can by being from another generation.
So stop playing Mozart's Symphony No. 40 since it was composed in the late 18th century or Beethoven's 5th Symphony since it was first played in 1808? since no one is going to have the same reaction to these works like they did over 200 years ago? And most people don't hear these works live as they were performed when originally introduced. In addition, these works played now are interpretations of the original.
I grew up in the 1970s & in the 1980s. If we had the internet & TH-cam back then, I, or you, wouldn't be able to do reactions of Elvis Presley, Nina Simone, The Beatles, James Brown, Patsy Cline, The Doors, Marvin Gaye or Sly And The Family Stone & etc.? We can't listen, absorb & have our own experience with the song & artist?
I can't have a reaction to one of my favorite bands, The Beatles, when I was in my youth & not of The Beatles' generation, because I will not clone my reaction to those who were fans when The Beatles were releasing their music? I appreciate The Beatles in my own way from my own experience. And I, like others, appreciate them more from my generation to this current generation, to those who are from The Beatles era because not every one was a Beatles fan.
