Having an issue today, that video helped me ... to find my own path to my solution. Here is what I found and did. I ended up deleted my table of content, my list of figures (I used the type "legend" for this and my list of tables). I re-created it, and the page numbers were wrong (higher than the actual pages). It made me crazy since I remenber having similar issues 20 years ago when I graduated.... Thanks to this video I understood that "Update page numbers only" has a different effect --> indeed it corrected the first few lines but not all, but after REPEATING THIS SEVERAL TIMES, all the lines of my list of figures had the correct page number. Sometimes you have to insist.... What on earth has Microsoft thought of achieving here is my deepest mystery..

Hi. OK. I have a Word 2013 document with 7 sections all titled sections 1-7. Page numbers are all correct, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, etc. at the bottom of each page. But in my TOC, section 3 page numbers (should be 3-1, 3-2, etc.) are 2-1, 2-2, etc. Same with section 7, it shows 6-1, etc. i have lots of section breaks and stuff like that and I know a link somewhere is broken - I think in the headings. I don't know the technical terms but when I highlight Section 2, the 2 is a darker gray than the rest of the letters. No darker gray on the 3 or the 7. I have tried to recreate these headings but no worky. Thoughts?

how do you do it so if you have a long title it only shows the page number on the first line? Im having issues where it is showing the page number twice if the title is longer than one line.

I clicked around and it has something to do with "Reading View." The page numbers show up in "Reading View" but reference the screen number when I switch to "Print Layout."

I'm having an issue where Word is picking up EXTRA sections in the TOC that aren't actually in the document itself. Any thoughts on THAT? :)

Hi Rocky I'm still having problems with this.

Rocky, this is helpful, unlike others I have visited on TH-cam! I thought that the 'hidden' page break was my problem, but that wasn't it. I think the problem is the anchors on my figures and tables. It is giving me fits. I have two of the same table listed in the TOC, but I only see one in the actual document. Any ideas?? Thank you very much!

Angela Rodríguez I’m still experiencing the same problem of trying to get the table of content with each on the right pages without doing it manually

My table of contents is not reading the pages at all. I have used the "replace" suggestion and the table of contents is still giving me the following error message: {PAGEREF: _Toc383099209:h}. Can you help please?

Unhelpful video. 5 minutes in and all I am watching are presentations of problems but no detail on what's going on and how to prevent the page number issue.
