- A millionaire leaves his kids 3,000 classic cars. They must decide what to do with them - while honoring their dad’s legacy.
Watch Jamie Colby talk about Auto, Estate Planning, Lifestyle Budget, and Retirement on Strange Inheritance.
What many people of Tacoma knew was that Harold Lemay shared his passion yearly by inviting friends and friends of friends to drive his cars on special days of the year. How many museums would ever let the average car lover drive their cars. None that I know of. He was a very unique man with a passion for cars. I lived in Tacoma and often went to his small Spanaway shop and watched some of the restoration on a few cars. I would look at the cars stored in the yard and say, "If I had that one or that one" I would do this or that to it. I doubt that there will ever be such a generous or happy man that wants to share his passion of saving cars ever again. To Harold's family, "Thanks for trying to preserve the passion and the collection". :) :)
@Hello Bbrut how are you doing?
I learned a long time ago when I owned 38 cars, you don't own them, they own you. I cannot fathom 3,000. I met some people from this group at Irwindale raceway quite a few years ago when they were showing the model of the museum and had a nice talk about some cars, but I had no idea they had that many cars. The logistics of that many cars is a massive undertaking.
300 cars not 3,000

Yeah... it WAS 3000 before they sold some off for the museum, and then split up more for one SHARED museum, and now this more manageable museum which is NOT shared.
A boy came from nothing but only with his passion to be the best one & left an huge empire as his legacy. Video output is only 360p but the quality of the content is so amazing. I would love to see the second part of the story.
Thank you so much for sharing & documenting his legacy!!
should build a huge car museum, and put all his cars in it so everyone can enjoy them too
they do have a museum! it's called "the Lemay American car Musem" I've been there! located in Tacoma, Washington

Need to find a real good job to find another bit of the history
+David Cruz Sell as many as you can, keep the one that had the greatest meaning to Harold. Enjoy some, share some with grandpa's kin if there are any ones deserving,-or not. Do some good by a pay it forward basis. God bless you.

B.S.! Museums are where cars go to DIE. A car that doesn't/can't/isn't driven...isn't really a car anymore, just like a plane that doesn't fly, or a boat that's not seaworthy. Keep 'em running!
It’s so comforting to me to see you staring at the camera more than the road while you’re driving.
"Son, I can't afford to raise you; you're going to live with some strangers who can." How d'ya think that would fly, nowadays?
"runs out of room in his 300 car garage"
LOL
cyuiyu wyguiyui that man collected now vintage cars. Before collecting vintage cars was a thing.
Yep.... now there’s a burden I’m willing to carry!!!
“He went to a wrecking yard auction in Idaho, bought the whole wrecking yard.” That’s one way to get a hell of a lot of cars!
Or junk!
Been there.....awesome.
Mr. LeMay was a fine American.
Started with one garbage truck ended up with an empire.
I started with one pick up truck and now have nine whiny workers.
Really game changer man...lots of respect..his mother couldn't afford to take care of him due to financial c implications..when he grew up..he bought a whole school and 19 properties...
The collection at Marymount is probably my favorite car museum. I'm not sure I would even call it a museum since these cars are mostly in a non restored, daily driver condition. To me it gives them more character. The tour guides have a story about every car in there. Just amazing.
I Wouldn't want to see a family so terribly burdened by this collection so if your nice I'll look after it for ya..
right--they could sell ONE car a year--and that's their living income for a year.
tough job, but somebody has got to do it.....
Oh yeah we can definitely look after this collection together as a team! They can just leave all the keys with us and we'll take care of them.
Shaun McInnis I wouldn’t mind either.
Shaun McInnis was
Am I allowed to touch? Jamie that is! She’s a hottie!
Gosh I would truly enjoy a chance to purchase the White 1967 Shelby Mustang! At 58 it's still my life long dream!
If it wasn't for this man and his wonderful method of madness there would never be this amount of old cars out there that would of survived it's fantastic to see such a collection

That Packard matches your dress . . . SOLD!
Either set up a museum so everyone can enjoy them or sell them off so other people can adore them the same way his father did.
I like to see these cars on the road, maybe weekends on backroads. Those are nice driving cars unlike todays cars.
where can i watch the full length of the video?
+Ynno Mejia Ck You Tube " LeMay Car Museum Tacoma Wa "
also " LeMay American's Car Museum Grand Opening "

I would be so proud to show it off and say it was my dads work... I love my father .
Is there more to this? I just finished this video, is there a part two?
Soooo....where's the rest of the story?
Rickyboy707 , That is what I thought???🤔😳👍
yeah that's what I wondered too
It pulled out before the climax.
I did a bit of digging and found the uncut version here
archive.org/details/FOXNEWSW_20150323_000000_FOX_News_Special/start/0/end/60
it's in segments which is a bit annoying but you can't win'em all I guess...
they took that one down too.

Well, I'm sure others have said a museum which I totally agree. Also, you could pick one car every day and charge people to drive them around in it. Each day, different car and make a schedule ahead of time. Also, you could drive people in a wedding, the married couple. Plenty of ways to make money, but I'm sure it's easier said than done. I'm sure some people in the family are tired of it though. I just hope that if they sell it or already have sold it that they picked someone who would buy the whole lot and keep it going. That's a lot of amazing work that man put in and what a cool thing to inherit!
Better than money in the bank! At least he enjoyed the cars he bought and he got a great deal of satisfaction in saving them and preserving them.
Nice headlights on Jamie.
And hooters, , , , , , , , !
That Ford is a Beauty!😎👍🖤⭐️🕊🦋🕊🙏✌️🎉🇺🇸 Thanks for sharing!🙏✌️🎉🇺🇸🌅
What an amazing legacy he left! They should create a museum in his honor or even contact the Smithsonian or the Henry Ford.
My dream car was an old packer.Could never afford one doubt that there are other cars that are simply beautiful
God Bless this Man❗
There's a dyed-in-the-wool , down to his soul , natural-born CAR GUY O:-)
I don't know whys this in my Recommended. But i admire the man who owns that alot of Cars!! ♥️♥️👌🏼👌🏼
I live near Tacoma so I've been to that museum a couple of time. If you are in the area it's well worth the visit. You won't be disappointed.
OMG---this guy has more cars than jay leno!
jay Leno doesn't have that many cars maybe around the 50 or 60 cars
+Go On ZuhJ more like 150+
Vlaid65 ok
+Vlaid65 most of the cars Jay showcases aren't his
+chillyfingers123 Jay has admit to that,in fact,I think he has 150,and people he knows park their collectible in the room contro;lled hangar, pardon me garage,,and he invites people with cars showcased on his show,Jay knows about cars and he likes them original
Incredible! What a neat story and a great collection. Thanks for sharing.
Oh WOW what an Amazing Collection
There r no words to describe how i feel looking at this collection
I met Mr Lemay at Turlock and Pleasanton Cal auto shows. He bought a few cars and lots of parts from me RIP !!!
She is a lovely woman, amazing car collection. I would enjoy seeing more of both.
I'm 55 and have owned 30 cars and a truck . After seeing this , I wish I could've kept each one . But in reality I was trying to enjoy and drive another , with vision's of unrealistic goals . My , Brother a mechanic told me , that my eyes were bigger than my wallet . I knew he was right . Today I wish , that I had n't made so many poor choices . But after all Isn't that there all about ?
I am blessed by this video! Thank you.
This is almost as nice as a car museum. Wow this is so awesome. Hard to choose which car is nice, they all are sweet looking cars. I like to see the collection of these cars do a little tour seeing them
I'm not super big on cars but got I love seeing classics... If I could one car I just want it to be a classic of some sort
"Oh my goodness look at the steering wheel!" This lady knows a ton about cars
Great!! Save those Old Beauties!!
Harold is my type of guy, saving cars from the crusher. Awesome guy.
Nice collection, 1:44, you see him checking out her. !!!!
Heath Cox Lol!!!! Yeah, he's definitely looking at something besides the cars!!!!
Uhhum.. Now that I have composed myself, I have to say WOW ! and well done to that gentleman. I am in complete awe of his wonderful wisdom and vision to conserve those beautiful cars for the future generations. Hope he left enough cash to keep maintaining them otherwise this whole deal would be compromised.
Good luck to the beneficiaries.
I think the collection should be sold off to collectors or museums. Maintaining it is a pain in the ass and if the kids don't enjoy cars as much - it's just a waste
And now you Don't know, the rest of the story.
My dad had every Cadillac from 1950-1966
👏👏 good for him👍
lots of people do that about passed loved ones possessions, they don't want to " dishonor" their dead loved one by getting rid of stuff. But I'm Christian, I think people go to better place and get better stuff and they couldn't care less about the stuff they left behind. Watching American Pickers once a woman was joking about her husband and his massive collection, I couldn't agree with her more, she said " yup the funeral will be at 11AM and the Auction starts at 1:00" That's the right idea.
Mr. Lemay had some beautiful cars there I’ve been there a bunch of times it’s a heck of a museum
I also think you should open a car museum. Safe the best car's so that his name will live for ever. The rest that is dubble or even tribbeled, sell them of and donate the money to charity. Help helping .
I can use Harold as an example to my wife that 7 cars is kids play! :) Cool collection!
I saw that collection about 7 years ago it was awesome.
It was all based on the separation from his mother, the car collecting was a subconscious effort to have his mom back.
libertyn jeopardy I agree
i would settle for a couple of the junk cars they have out in the field.
Heck parts scattered in the scrap piles at a place like that
I was getting so intrigued.. Then it cuts off darn. What cars I did get to see I loved THEM...❤❤
Been to the main Museum and is a must for car People!
Wait so the collection is at the house? Or maybe it moved. I been to the musseum and later saw the collection place and I thought it was something like a warehouse type thing
Yes, build a car museum so can share with everyone and also the generation who love the car. 😀👍👍👍
I mean new generation who love the car. 😀
Emon Arema Where and can it be any kind of car put in museum? THANKS
Nice collection hope they are restored exactly the same as once they were.
Nice pair of sweater puppets
+Curtis Chaney First thing i saw
both of the ladies with orange on . I would toss the nuts to
Pretty descent exhaust system as well.
I love the headlights.
*puppies
anyone know where I can watch the rest of the video?
I wonder how he felt about people who go out clubbing all night, do they hair and nails twice a week, get up when the sun is high, wear hoodies and saggy pants, live off the govt, have gansta names, kneel and protest about that oppression.
Harold did exactly what i would do if i had money, save as many as i could and try to find them a good home. Shit makes me sad to see them going to waste...
I caught on you tube a few years back of a gentleman that had this massive "Cadillac collection".It was well over 100.They represented the 20's thru the early 60's.But this collector in oregon takes the blue ribbon. His dedication to old car collection is "plum-off the charts".R.I.P. MY FRIEND!!
I clearly heard Jamie Colby and Doug Lemay say the collection has 300 cars, BUT the title says 3000, that's a huge discrepancy!!!
+jadesluv 300 cars in the garage by the house. That is why he brought 50 more properties and the school!
harold now why did not you even leave us part 2 of your fascinating passion.
Old cars are beautiful.
They simply are
R.I.P pops 🌹
i wanna inherit jamie lol
I have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd dibs on Jamie. What a sweet lady she is.
I'd love to inherit Jamie Colby!😁
family spoke of him in a very nice way..Good video..thanks
most important message of this whole video was within the last 20 seconds of it.
OMG! I got to visit the Lemay ACM Museum several times, and I've seen the Family Collection in Marymount. But considering how many cars he and the family may have collection, I doubt that I've seen everything. Like Harold LeMay, I'm *passionate* about cars, trucks, and anything on wheels. I'd prefer to drive a car than eat. Unlike LeMay, I don't have a collection of cars.
Long live the classics!!!
"Honey, enough already, we can use that money for a vacation." You mean he should stop spending the fortune he created for himself and start spending it on you.
Why not she's the wife? And anything he owns she owns too. It's called Marriage.
Puff Of Smoke Until divorce comes along and she gets most of it after that. Marriage don't sound appealing at all now.
gutz1981 Well, he should've done a pre-nup to protect whatever he owns to himself and not to be shared to his wife. But money made within the marriage she gets half of it. That's how it works. So, essentially it's her money too.
Puff Of Smoke If it weren't for kids. I kind of don't see the point of marriage in this day and age. I'd be more content with a long relationship anyway.
That depends on what state you reside and the state of the deceased.
thanks for sharing
Instead of stock, real estate etc. he apparently invested in cars. It seems to have worked out well for him and his family.
My dream car was in the background. 1967 Shelby
Harold Lemay was amazing! Awesome story. Car Savers Unite!
The yearly show they use to do every August at Marymount was pretty awesome
I bet Jay Leno and others would be happy to put them in their collections.
If you're going to run a story, do the whole thing.
I don't have the patience (very few do) to page through hundreds (thousands?) of videos to find part two (March 15th 2015?) of this show.
u r right..
i could not find rest of the video...
Where is the rest of the story?
wonderful collection
Wtf it just stops? I want to hear he rest of the story.
I just want to get a blue 1957 Bel-Air with a white Hardtop and whitewall tires. And also maybe a Blue Cadillac like Hank Williams had
I want to see the whole thing.
Amazing, so amazing.
Personally, while I think everyone should get to see these cars, I think every one of them should be driven, not just sitting in a museum static display. After all, that's what they were meant to do, not just sit I know from experience that just sitting for long periods of time is actually harder on cars than being driven moderately. Of course, with these very rare pieces, you would not want to drive them on public streets, but seems to me at least at the second museum having a safe place to drive them is not a major issue.
"Car Saver," love it!
I want to see the rest of the story. I have not seen a story I found this interesting in a long time.
the Le May Collection amazing collection I knew what it was seeing the picture the picture near middle shows the museum which is only part of the collection
3,000 classic cars most of which are in mint condition, how fun. I would Love the keys to the garage with the keys to the cars. Holy fun day.
I went to Marry Mount to pick up one of many un restored cars that were auctioned off. A worker told me they had just found another thousand cars under BlackBerry bushes. He had a team of buyers shipping cars from the east coast the last 10 years of his life.
@Hello Robert how are you doing?
Wow....!!what an..inheritance....
Orange does you well Jamie! Wow!
Keep in mind everyone a millionaire back in the 70-80's you where living large. Think about this, a lot of these cars where bought in the thousands and tens of thousands range. Nowadays it would take a lot more money and time.
1:10 in video and my knees are literally shaking...
