HOW TO PROTECT YOUR HEAD FOR THE STREET

  • Please understand that sometimes context is missing due to the short clips on TH-cam.
    In the dynamic that is shown here the element of crashing in while you hit him with your elbows is missing.
    We filmed it but the audio is lost.
    In UC we don't "defend". We are counter offensive. That's a different dynamic.
    Also action always beats reaction!
    Keep it simple!

    5:29 The reaction from the guy in the back is wild 😄
    Very good video - after years of training, this Cover-Crash- Counter concept gave me a big plus in confidence. I did years of kung fu before an "knew" how to answer in 5 ways to nearly every attack. But the Problem is, like said in the video, you do not know what is coming and action beats reaction.

    • @rooroo9216
      @rooroo9216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In other words gross motor skills > fine motor skills, I like that this guard is closer to the head I’m just wondering about straight punches harder punches to see instead of round ones and if a similar guard to high guard in boxing would help? The other thing I worry about with these high guards is although they might help stop punches, I worry about takedown attempts being easier with the hands so high up.

    • @mutant0177
      @mutant0177 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rooroo9216 Yeah, but not only that you are too slow to do the technique and have no time to choose the right one. And you are not in a controlled situation and will flinch in a more "unprofessional" way. Another plus point to the cover shown in this video is that is a natural response to something which comes quick to your a head (like a ball or milk can from the top of the stock pile) you only have to sharpen that and step into the threat.
      A boxing style guard in my experience depends a lot on the angle of the attack and you do not protecting your neck. I got a shot on the neck/end of the skull in sparring and that caused neurological problems instantly, even if that was not with full power by accident and with gloves.
      Takedown: Maybe you can get takled but lean forward and you could sprawl if you sense that kind of action.
      It is clear that it is not perfect (what ever that means) for everything but it is a very good "one-fits-all" action if you do not know what ist coming. Straight punch to this cover (tip of your elbow) without cloves is no fun for the attacker.

    • @rooroo9216
      @rooroo9216 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mutant0177 Yeah I can see how the jab could kind of hit the elbow and break the knuckles, connect to the arm, bounce off left, bounce off right, above, or if this charging in technique is applied correctly they’ll probably end up getting their jab arm jammed up a few times anyway being too close. The opening up action downwards could also be a strike, or a grab/slapping an arm down (with a head butt) and then the strikes come. It’s certainly one of the better guards I’ve seen, I just think any enemy (if he’s even still standing that is) would immediately resort to grappling or takedowns after seeing so many of their strikes fail, it can happen a lot in fights. Sprawling is a good choice, hopefully they don’t fake the takedown, but there also might be some time to jam the elbows on/brace against their takedown (it’s kind of hard to explain how it looks).
      What happened there sounds similar to what happens when a neck chop, hammer fist or other strike accidental or not happens on the neck, it might not always knock someone out like in the films, but cause a delay/stun them for a bit. It’s also probably why back of the head strikes are often banned, but can still happen now and then by accident.

    • @schoolofselfprotection
      @schoolofselfprotection  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There is never a 100% solution..When somebody takes me down..I’m still conscious. Point of this is to protect the head! So they don’t knock
      Me out! You need to look into the gaps of your arm to see if he goes for a weapon or low line attack. If he goes low you sprawl. Fighting is always dynamic. You need to adapt all the time. But at least you can adapt because you are still conscious instead of knocked the f❤️ck out.

    Studied traditional traditional jiu-jitsu ..way before BJJ became a thing. Now that I am 60..I need geriatric juijitsu.. I believe this will pressure test out well. Some of this looks quite similar to traditional Japanese juijitsu. Especially the entering to eliminate the power of your opponent. I kept feeling I would want to instinctively want to move outward..which tended to leave the opponent to attack again. I wanted to send this to my 10 year old daughter I put into jiu-jitsu..but I think her mom will get upset about the language.. definitely following you!

    You always have to look. Sometimes when you go to knee you have to see if his arm and/or hand fell, or is, in front of him, thus, that knee may not work. Always look, this is split second stuff sometimes. The best thing, if you're outside, is just take off and run, if not be prepared to scratch, bite and claw if necessary. That fear will become adrenaline and then survival and then action. Run, run, run if you can, most will not chase you.
    God Bless brothers and sisters.

    Not here to debunk the teaching, but in my kung fu school, we drilled every time something like a krav maga 360 defense (forearm block), and one time someone tryed to suckerpunch me as you demonstrated, as a reflex I steped in right away, hit his punching arm with my forearm, and put my other hand onto his chest, but did not hit him, and asked the guy, wtf he is doing! He was thinking hard, kinda frozen, tryed to hit me with his other arm too, I was really surprised by that, but I just pulled back my head a bit, and step back really short, asked againt if he is crazy or something, and that was it, no harm done... Blocking, if you drill it so much, is possible, specially against wide suckerpunches, but I was not under adrenaline, I just tryed to deescalate a situation, where acutally they wanted to beat up another guy (who behaved shitty acutally, but you know...). The other interesting part of the story, my attacker had friends, acutally 3 wrestlers, all bigger than me, and national champs or something... thoose 3 guys wanted to give a lesson to someone, and as I said, I tryed to make them chill, and this fourth guy, who didn't look acutally like them, he was not that muscular, etc... So he came to ME and tryed to suckerpunch my head off... Moral of the story, blocks can work, acutally as a reflex, if you drill them properly, but there is a risk, if you do not catch, do it too early, or late, yes, you are fucked up, but step in can still help a bit ;) Other moral of the story, If I actually hit back, no mercy, whatever, possible the 3 wrestler friends could "kill me"... Thoose guys built good... Like Bruce Lee, just bigger XD Every situation is different, BUT I agree covering the head is EZer than catching something, this is just my story ;)

      Ok. No offense but…Come to my class. And try to block. I pay your 1000,- if you can block 1. The drill: I’m standing in front of you. We have a dialog going…And I will attack with anything out of the blue. You recognize and block. You will fail. Action always beats reaction. No matter how long your drill a drill!

    Where did you get that groin strike pad?
    Nice technique, most krav maga schools are unaware of its existence but our was founded by former soldiers and bodyguards and working police officers, so we were taught the cover and how to use it from the very beginning. Nice one!

    Awesome video! I do like this style. And its so similar to krav maga. I learned this defense in my krav maga class as well. Just a 360 defense is not Always enough.

    • @schoolofselfprotection
      @schoolofselfprotection  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks..but it’s not a style. It’s all about violence and concepts to deal with that. The 360 defense goes totally out of the window when we pressure tested it. Not realistic when the attack is fueled by hate. Thanks for appreciating the content! Feel welcome in class.

      @@schoolofselfprotectionmy former teacher told me more less the same as you! 360 is nice as a basic training, but when it comes to a massive attack with lots of anger and hate, then covering your head is one of the best things you can do!

    It's straight to the point, and highly effective.

    I knew it,i was right no matter how long the enemy weapon is if you can get deep you can lower the impact and take down your aponent
    But the problem is if your aponent use a weapon like chain or whip kind a weapon like chain dart

    How much of an adjustment would you make for a straight punch/thrust to the head? Would it be more of a shuffle to the outside instead of moving straight in?

    Interesting video. Muay Thai is most effective at this close distance with knees and elbows but if they have a weapon the best option is to run.

      We take the knees and elbows from Thaiboxing indeed! But there is so much more to make it more Combative! But the tools you mentioned are legit from close range!
