This dude is awesome man!!! No sugar coating and he tells it like it is. I also like how he emphasizes avoidance and diffusing the situation before you have to get into a physical confrontation. Way to go man.👍

I've the same viewpoint on open palm vs. fist in a streetfight! Great way to structure the drilling purposefully. Thx a lot for the inspiration.

Awesomeness. This guy is good. Great teaching ,easy to understand . These hand slaps are just as deadly as closed fist and save you broken hands and broken fingers from closed fist punching . Most men have enough power to knock anyone man out with a properly learned and practiceakes perfect. It really is benificial that we attend a class with this guy , practice and keep yourself able to defend yourself by regularly attend set defence classes like this guy. People need to be able to protect themself ..thanks for sharing.

Another great video. My dojo brother and I also teach the students in our life protection class to generate power for their strikes, punches, knees and kicks using what we call koshi (waist area, hips) movement.
However, I never considered learning to develop power from koshi while kneeling, sitting and laying on your back. We will incorporate this into our lessons. Thank you again for all of your practical information. 🥋👊🏼.

I agree, except for the "posturing".
Geoff Thompson pushed this quite extensively in the 90s, and I've used it successfully a couple of times, and been able to walk away without having to put hands on people.
I'd be very wary of doing it now, though.
With the growth of CCTV, and everybody having a video recorder in their pocket, perception management is more important than ever, and being loud, shouty and aggressive prior to hitting someone is a very good way to spend a chunk of time in jail.
If you're in court, you want the witnesses saying that you were backing up with your hands open, and not that you were aggressive, and stalking him like a wild animal.

    • @schoolofselfprotection
      @schoolofselfprotection  ปีที่แล้ว

Posturing works. You have to adapt sometimes. It’s a last resort thing to do. I used it in front of cameras all the time. Doing door work. Never gave me a problem. You only use it when all other stuff is not working.

If you can do it for real under the real fight stress it is a nice effect! Gives a more “whip” effect! But under real fight stress muscles tension goes up! So difficult if you cannot control the fight stress! Thanks for the kind words!

I more want to learn ko slaps as a sort of parlor trick for when inner city youths accost me when im trying to buy cigarettes, so can we get to it??

What KO's is the shake in the head... Energy transfer is pretty much the same with a palmstrike as it is with a fist I believe. I'm not familiar with combat jitsu but maybe the intent/intensity is different, and they know it's coming (watch the difference between a sucker punch and a professional boxer taking a hit)

Another informative training video. I see these training drills as a practical application for what is known as shotei uchi (heel palm strike) in the style of Karate I practice which is Goju Ryu.
Also, the methods you demonstrate to generate power from the feet through the hips is what we are taught.
Thank you for posting practical self defense videos. 🥋

  • @maxneumann6522

yes, what a nice Video, but have you seen the bad habit of the trainer exposing the little finger while and after striking? I grabbed so many exposed fingers in my time as a combat trainer. And so many students have broken their finger cause of this big mistake. I think it is a habit coming from working with boxing gloves

I broke my hand in a fight once . Cannot help it really. Your point is legit. Found that out the hard way more than once . But my hand works like that now. So I need to deal with it. I don’t work with boxing gloves that much. Thanks for the compliment by the way. 🙏🏻
