I liked when they covered how dumb the NR was in Mando season 2 or 3 where they were dismantling perfectly good Imperial military assets and destroying knowledge just because.
The problem with the New Republic is that many of its leaders experienced two wars in one lifetime. As a result, they had their fill of war, which may have contributed to the New Republic reducing the size of its fleet. Also, in order to make a new government as quickly as possible, they assimilated much of the Empire's old assets into their infrastructure. However, doing this caused several loyal Imperials to infiltrate the New Republic like Morgan Elsbeth's operation on Corellia. Essentially, it's for the best that the New Republic was destroyed by the First Order. Now, the galaxy's citizens will hopefully learn from their mistakes and rebuild a new government properly.
IMO I think that the only way to fight piracy in the Star Wars universe is local governments not single planets I’m talking hapes size enough power to defend borders and internally
I actually came up with a bit of a solution in my world building mental exercises. I chose a manufacturer like Hoersch-Kessel to design a deep space patrol shuttle with essentially the firepower of an X-Wing mixed with a small living cabin. 2 R6 astromech droids would help keep these shuttles going while assisting with the sensor scans and powering the automation that HKD specializes in. The pilot would be there supervising the day to day operations while providing piloting in emergency situations. Each pair of these shuttles would basically keep a pilot on duty in 12 hour rotations with mandatory breakfast and supper face-to-face meetings with their wingman. Mental health is important and all of that. I came up with a solution all the way up the chain in terms of progressively larger ships, and even a basic solution for the defense of individual planets. But basically the planets would receive a hangar and number of fighters to reflect the size of their population and an officer for each X number of fighters. They would command and operate these squadrons while the local population would provide the appropriate militia pilots to train. Etc and so forth.
Down with the New Republic. They’re weak and cannot protect hyperspace lanes. We need change now. My uncle was lost 2 weeks ago. We haven’t heard news of his whereabouts. This government needs to be replaced.
@samuelstephen8147 it would be good if we eventually see him in live action unfortunately I don't think it will be in Skeleton crew mentioned maybe though
Organized pirate organizations almost always are built by ex-military and professionals. During the age of sail, most pirates had extensive backgrounds from the various Navies or merchant ships. Pirate ships were run with the same efficiency as Navy ships. There were no partying or shenanigans going on daily. Hence the experience with boarding ships and professionalism seen while doing it. What a lot of people forget as well is that most of the times, pirates were shipping their own cargo and worrying about other ships trying to capture them. They made their money selling these stolen goods at legit trade hubs.
Demilitarization of the rebel army is also a huge insult to all the rebel volunteers as well. Their probably was not a G.I. type bill which could lessen the impact of disbandment and grant outlets for hardened fighters back to civilian. Because of that all these soldiers, pilots, and starship operators need a new job and their main qualifications is mostly holding the lime against a superior foe and lived, which if you think about is perfect pirate material. They are creating their own problem while also ensuring they cannot solve it.
If only the republic would do what most states (countries) do here and have both a big national/external military forces and an internal military and law enforcement forces to handle these types of insecurities. You know like for example the US with its regular national military forces and the National Guard and reserve forces for the military and the Justice Department and its agencies and state and local law enforcement agencies. It’s why in the US and similarly strong states don’t have these issues with rampant piracy and the like. They get caught, tried, convicted, and dealt with long before they can develop like in Star Wars and in our past. It’s the main reason why these institutions were developed in the first place.
I think the USA being the world super power works because it's one big planet but this is a whole Galaxy that not only have a huge power vacuum all the syndicate was basically gone aswell leaving a giant whole
@ This principle isn’t just used by the US it’s used by many States (countries for those who are confused with what I mean) in the world to have a more stable society. In this case I was suggesting they make every of government (federal/Republic wide, regional, sector, planetary, etc) strong and have their own military and/or law enforcement agencies. This would stabilize the power vacuum you’re talking about if it’s done correctly.
The Republic isn't a real country though. It is the Holy Roman Empire but in space with more diversity, a less powerful government and no unifying religion/language. Generation Tech and other people who support the Republic mistake its longevity for stability, when in reality the Republic was not stable, it was simply stagnant. When the Republic was stable, it had a big military. It became stagnant after that disappeared.
I wonder if we’ll see the Second Galactic Civil War in live action. Dave seemed to hint at that with “is the Galaxy any better than when the Empire was in control?”
Funny you mention pirates with interdictors. In my Legends-based AU, I have a story planned where a crew of pirates plan to steal an old Immobilizer Cruiser that the New Republic is going to scrap, because they can't figure out how to use it properly. They actually succeed too, thanks to two former Imperials who join the heist. However, one of those Imps slowly turns the pirates against their captain, with the promise of a *lucrative* privateer contract. He delivers too. The contract is with the Empire of the Hand, and the new captain is a Chiss who calls himself Raw'nuru. Let's just say Luke and Mara should have made *sure* the clone they blew up in "Visions of the Future" actually was dead.
Of course, by the time the new republic was made, the empire had already purged the remaining CIS military strength After shutdown But somehow these droids never seem to disappear so they could be useful as a security force specifically maybe B2’s just maybe but that is just up in the air because it starts becoming harder to find them overtime because of what the empire did after shut down with them and starting to become something rare to find
We also have to remember that at this point there are probably multi generation pirates. People whose parents or even grandparents got their start looting in the pre clone wars.
Theory: silvo is the kid grown up. That cold open is in the future from what we see the kids doing. Now i know the pirate who lost an eye in the cold open is having it fixed in episode 2, but i think it was already a robotic eye and thats just a different point in it being fixed or installed. He just didnt seem phased when it was shot out so i think it could have already been a fake-eye (like in PotC). Probably wrong, but could be cool
Apparently we've seen the nikto pirate before... He seems to be Vane, the one Greef Karga disarmed with a blaster shot on Nevarro. We don't know yet if this series is taking place before, or after the events of The Mandalorian.
The books greatly described why the New Republic demilitarized. Mon Monthma thought that the cause of the Empire was the militarism. So she cut of the New Republic's military by 90% so that the New Republic wouldn't militarize and transform into another empire. Leia on the other end saw the causes for the empire in the chaos and lawlesness of the old Republic which led for calls after order and strong military which the empire granted. In the end history repeated itself and the republic's security failings led to people supporting a fascist regime like the First Order. Mon Monthma was a political idealist who hated the empire and everything it stood for but she never posed herself a question why so many people supported the empire. She was basically locked in her social bubble and never saw how the republic was rotting.
All that talk about writing off employees as a loss instead of paying ransoms makes me want to see a competent attempt at Black Lagoon, but it's Star Wars.
The New Republic assumed that the galaxy after the civil war would essentially be the same galaxy as before the clone wars, and therefore, they could just resume the golden age if they just returned to the old status quo. They were wrong. The Galaxy changed, and their desire to live in the past cost them their future.
Love your videos man it's just the facts none of the bull crap other star wars TH-camrs push about Disney I really don't care about that stuff I only care that I'm finally getting an abundance of new star wars material after decades of only new star trek material I'm so excited
Piracy in our would was a plague for centuries, only the romans were able to destroy them in the Mediterranean, but I doubt that our modern public opinion would stomach their methods ! Against piracy are needed extreme & ruthless ways, as was done from early 18th century 'til early 20th. When confronting pirates you can act with "proportionate reaction" (sic), or telling them "Miranda Rights"
The thing I don't like about this is as well is that the New Republic has all these all ISD's just sitting around, they could totally refit and use them to attempt to stifle this problem.
We could probably draw a few parallels between the piracy in the early years of the New Republic and the golden age of piracy. If the Rebels had, indeed, created privateers to attack the Empire, and then released them at the end of the Galactic Civil War, those privateers might have turned to pirating civilian freighters of any faction once their funds ran out. In Star Wars, the solution to the New Republic's own golden age of piracy might be very similar to the one adopted by the British here on Earth: dedicate a powerful enough fleet of warships to hunt down and engage pirate groups, while offering sizable rewards for information, and even blanket amnesty to the pirates surrendering their now-stolen military-grade weapons and returning to a civilian way of life. This whole story, with a few Star Wars twists and flavour, could make for an interesting series. Finally, to keep piracy down will require much better investments from the core towards the security of their source of raw resources and manufactured goods - I mean of the outer rim. A model not unlike that of the US hegemony might work for a while, creating its own problems, and making for interesting stories again. If that all happens after the defeat of the First Order, then this might involve the New New Republic. 😅 Or we take a page out of France's book and call it the Third Republic. There are so many possibilities here...
@tk-6967 If I recall, and our creator can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the New Republic retained a core navy, albeit a small one, in order to be able to react to specific threats. As such, I would think the New Republic could dedicate a small fleet (or more than one if the issue is everywhere) in order to hunt down pirates in troubled spots. The idea is not to have enough ships to patrol everywhere as a deterrent, but to demonstrate the capability of the New Republic to hunt down pirates and make surrender with amnesty a lot more appealing. That was essentially the strategy used by Britain to quell piracy. In effect, Britain could not afford a navy large enough to be so ever present as to prevent piracy everywhere. The New Republic has the same issue, and a similar solution might work well enough. Imagine a scene with the Republic fleet showing up to the pirate base with enough force to give pirates pause, providing the Republic's ultimatum and retiring for however much time was given for pirates to answer.
@Zartren The New Republic relies on light ships that couldn't deal with pirates alone whilst the British had begun using progressively heavier ships as their power grew as far as I am aware. Also, there is probably a numbers difference and a culture difference. The Brits are obviously going to find it easier to bargain with other Brits than the NR I'd with random pirates from who knows which planet.
@tk-6967 Well the New Republic did field new cruisers and most likely had some MC80s and such as well. Even the small fleet seen in Ahsoka would have been perfectly capable of dealing with pirates. It definitely would have been viable. I will concede your last point, however. While blanket amnesty was quite in vogue with the New Republic, it might still have found it difficult to negotiate with pirates who would have been operating for decades at this point. Plus, the Outer Rim probably did not have that much say in Galactic affairs, making it even harder to relate. Still, speaking of potential stories, there is a lot that could be done still around this pirate problem. 🙂
@Zartren that wasn't a small fleet by NR standards, though. That was literally the escort fleet for the Home One, the NR's flagship, and a pretty pathetic fleet it was.
Funny how that happens when you HAVE a big enough fleet... WHOLE Armada actually, of pretty good an fairly strong warships... An instead of just using them as an intergalactic Police Force, a REAL ONE, not the equivalent of a Lone Wild West Intergalactic Sheriff Outsourcing... An dispered them across the huge Galaxy... With quite a bit of truly elite or even scary forces on a rotating forever patrol LOOKING for trouble an people to rescue pretty sure alot of Opening scenes like in 'Skeleton Crew' would be more like Rebel Mon Cals chasing the Pirates like the Empire used to do to them and/or outright Space battles between Pirate an Republic Forces which DID happen few times in the franchise... Instead of letting an Imp remnant DESTROY the ones they didn't destroy themselves since EVERYONE KNOWS their Galaxy is plenty things, safe is hardly one of them .. they HAD it, so why not use it? Instead of putting themselves in a "damn we're idiots, we HAD it, but got rid of it all, NOW we need BUT sorely lack 'it'.." kinda situation
I get not wanting an authoritarian military but at least an actual navy and coast guard/trade defense protection. I mean we saw in the old republic no military at all always turns into a hastily adopted military with little oversight. Better to have a military created with careful consideration and oversight
It's partly the New Republics fault and partly what happens when there is a power vacuum. And most of the military under Palpatine didn't want to be part of it any more. We see that in the Star Wars Resistance series. Moreover, Pirates would usually live and operate outside of territorial space. Much like the Jedi not dealing with Slavery outside of Republic space as they had no authority. The same was most likely true in the opening scenes of Skelton Crew. They attacked outside of or just inside New Republic Territory. And then left New Republic Territory. Lastly, Pirates may have existed because of it being a transitional government. We saw this after WW2, after the fall of the Soviet Union, and the brief return to democracy after the dictatorship in the USA for four years. Sadly, the USA is entering a dictatorship for at least another 4 years. The reasons why were many as noted above--but mainly the fact there was a transitional government in the New Republic and piracy is much higher during that period.
The Republic/Empire had more than a million member systems. The Outer Rim areas were larger than the Core worlds by a significant margin. They had been poor for millenia, with strong independent streaks and used to being abandoned by the galactic government. Building up a military and the logistics strucutre to effectively control the Outer Rim would be a massive, massive investment that would require a Republic military several times larger than it had been at the height of the Galactic Civil War. Massive amounts of credits would be need to be poured into the Outer Rim to build up bases, infrastructure, military forces, etc. This would be horrifically expensive and be a commitment for decades. Even if it was politically feasible and teh Core Worlds were willing to allow this sort of money to be spent, that's money that the New Republic in turn cannot invest into itself or other things. Playing pirates is also whack a mole. It's a huge galaxy, with millions of inhabited worlds spread across even moreso light years. If you're being hit hard in one place? Relocate to another sector. The Republic in turn thus has to be available to protect all of their own territory, places that are vulnerable to pirates, and places that pirates operate out of. When hte pirates can relocate at a whim, when you have single ships and small fleets that can be anywhere in the galaxy, even when you don't factor in things like corruption, weapons everywhere.. It's essentially the stateless strategy all over again, leading to massive military spending and bankruptcy, and destruction of the galactic economy for places that won't pay out for centuries, and as soon as you deal with piracy in one area it springs up somewhere else. Then there's issues that a lot of independent planets won't accept the Republic trying to aid them or pursue pirates, and pirates can relocate to these sorts of areas. What do you do then when the Republic presence will be seen as invaders?
Any pirates surviving into the New Republic era arrrrrrre going to be a special kind of problem. From the Privateers sanctioned by the Rebellion, to Marauders backed by the Imperial Remmnant, and the Freebooters that swore no allegiances save to their crews and plunder, the wilds of unregulated space were such a problem that the Emperor targeted these fleets and raiding individuals with no less than Grand Admiral Thrawn, who worked his way up the Imperial heiararchy specializing in purging pirate enclaves and strongholds. These are the survivors of that. 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️ They will not be chumps.
In recent days the Syrian war collapsed The war left warlords everywhere and a new Republic in charge of half of Syria while terrorist organizations pick up abandoned equipment. That's basically the collapse of the galactic empire in Star wars.
I do wonder what a fully crewed freighter was doing in space without cargo. It might've just served as a reason for the pirate crew to mutiny against their captain as far as the showrunners are concerned, and a bit of a plot hole. It's probably not significant to the overall story anyway.
I've heard a few theories: 1. It was a distraction, the New Republic found out that pirates knew lots of credits were being moved along this trade route so they sent an empty ship with lots of security and an advanced mag lock cargo space so that the real ship with the money could slip past without being bothered. 2. The first mate (Bothan?) Passed bad info onto the captain so that the raid turns up nothing allowing him to stage a mutiny which would be supported.
It depends whether that security is intended to ensure liberty. Without law, there is no freedom. Still, I would say there is a difference between law and security; the former can't ensure the latter in the short term. Otherwise... Surrendering a little liberty for the sake of a little security will see people deserve neither and lose both.
In the short term, law can't guarantee security, though it can either ensure freedom or deprive people of it. The two are not synonymous. It takes time, as well as political will, for law-based societies to achieve the desired security.
The show made me think that the ship was a bait ship so they could say oh no the pirates stole all the money while they imbecile it hiding the fund's from like the new republic. Thier being the 1 coin left to antagonize the pirates as thanks for helping us out. 😅
Because that wouldn't work in a Galaxy as large as Star Wars. They probably couldn't even find everyone to vote on Coruscant let alone do whole Galactic regime changes.
Here me out I think this is post new republic Mabye even post episode nine I know the opening scroll said the new republic has handled control but since the planet is isolated and everyone thinks it’s a myth the opening scroll could be from the point of view of the planet and the new republic is isolating the planet to protect it after star killer base or another war. And this would explained why the bartender was surprised about the credits
Dude you're probably my favorite Star Wars guys, because you don't take this shit tooo serious, but serious enough that you can actually talk about it as if it were a theoretical thing. And you're not above dropping a random "your mom" in the middle of a paragraph.
Anyone else think Mon Mothma and the new Republic are completely incompetent. You know, let's go back a pre-clone wars stance with defense forces and military. So so dumb, let's completely restore a broken system instead of trying to replace it with a better one, but no let's take the only parts that work and change them making certain things over complicated.
S1E1: This Could Be a Real Adventure = 7/10 S1E2: Way, Way Out Past the Barrier = 8/10 The second episode was definitely better than the first episode. Was it amazing? No. I think I’m exactly 32 years removed from The Skeleton Crew’s target audience. This really is catered towards 12-year-olds. If I had kids, it would be perfect for them. The big mystery is how come everyone is saying At Attin no longer exists? That’s what will keep me engaged. I want to find out that mystery. Doesn’t At Attin feel like it represents Earth but in Star Wars? But how is it hidden? I really hope this isn’t some dumb dream sequence but it doesn’t look like it with Wim’s father having a Finding Nemo arc. Sean Chandler mentioned this although I’ve never seen this 80s film, but The Skeleton Crew is The Goonies mixed with Explorers from 1986. Never seen Explorers but it has Ethan Hawke and the late River Phoenix. And it has that Peter Pan/Pirates of the Carribean feels and some Treasure Planet. There’s also this plot twist in Flight of the Navigator (1986) that I feel TSC is also holding. If you’ve seen Flight of the Navigator, you would know what I’m talking about that plot twist and it happens during the middle of the movie. Something happened to At Attin and most residents from that planet aren’t aware of it. I think The Skeleton Crew is most comparable to me with Hawkeye (2021). Mediocre but fun. The word fun always follows something that isn’t regarded great these days. “It’s not great but it’s fun!” I will watch the entire thing but I know I won’t rewatch it ever again. I thought I would rewatch Hawkeye every Christmas but I never did. The characters in TSC are a little too dull for me. The two girls are stronger and smarter than the two boys. I won’t call it woke but it just seems Kathleen is at it again making the male characters look weaker and stupid. I think my favorite character so far is Brutus and only because I thought he was Lak Sivrak. Wolfman character in SW. It’s a 7.5 to me so far. IMDb has it at 7.2 getting closer to the scores of TBoBF and Kenobi. We barely saw Jude Law until the end of Ep. 2. I’m hoping he can raise the scores up if his character is interesting enough. 1. Brutus 2. Jod Na Nawood (We’ve barely seen him but Jude Law’s character will likely be the most popular being a former Jedi as most MALE characters are usually the most popular in any SW project) 3. Fern (She’s a conniving little girl, isn’t she? She’s Icebox from The Little Giants mixed with Mouth from The Goonies) 4. SM-33 (yes, Mr. Smee, I get the reference to Peter Pan) 5. Neel 6. KB 7. Wim 8. Wendle 9. Fara I saw Urkel for a few seconds. Can’t rank Gunter yet. Go, Brutus 🐺! Shares the same name as Popeye the Sailor Man’s rival, Brutus aka Bluto. 1. Andor 2. The Mandalorian 3. Ahsoka 4. The Skeleton Crew 5. Obi-Wan Kenobi 6. The Book of Boba Fett 7. The Acolyte I could see TSC fall off even below Kenobi. As bad as Kenobi was, it still gave us Vader. TSC seems like a one-time watch thing only to never be rewatched. There’s tons of SW projects that only needs a one-time viewing for it. The Acolyte might age better thanks to Qimir/The Stranger. Overhated today but appreciated more in the future kinda like the Prequels. Anyhoo, when the hell is that Andor S2 teaser trailer coming out?
You lost me when you called yourself too old. 44 years and still judged by others No wonder you said woke. You need other MEN to make you feel better As a bisexual? I think that’s rather gay. But I’m never surprised by the fragility of males in Star Wars
After watching this video, what stopped the Third Galactic Republic from building another Starlight Beacon? With such a space station, they can helped so many lives across the Outer Rim. Sure, the pirates will not like it and neither the Imperial Remnants. But as long as they are constantly bickering against one another in power struggles, what can stopped the Republic from doing what needed to be done?
Third Galactic Republic? There's only ever been two republics, but the Old Republic had many different "ages". Clone Wars era Republic, High Republic, Old Republic, etc etc. They were all the same government.... push comes to shove, you could even argue that the New Republic is just a continuation as many senators were the same. Now, why didn't the New Republic build another Starlight Beacon? Because that was an absolutely massive project that required billions of credits, a fully functioning galaxy spanning military to man it, and a Jedi Order that that was numbered in the 10s of thousands. The new Republic has, at most, a handful of scattered Jedi who have no Order, a very small fleet that was already stretched to far chasing Imperial remnants and maintaining New Republic space, an already corrupt senate. The High Republic were unable to defend the Starlight Beacon when they were at their most powerful, how is this new fledgling Government gonna do it?
@@mathewwilkins1613 Well, I looked at France's history and found out there are First, Second, Third and even Forth French Republics. So I just decided to go along with that because it made logical sense to me. And I know that the Starlight Beacon needed a lot of manpower, resources and money to construct and maintain. But that is the point here. If neither the Republic or the Empire cannot rule the Outer Rim, it is for the best to let the peoples of the Outer Rim governed themselves and form their own independent nation-states. Also, sorry for the late reply.
Super original too how they talk like late 16 and 17th century British prirates,,, arrrggghhhh, just like jack sparrow me lad! Star Wars is devoid of any originality….. 1050’s suburban neighborhoods and late century earth pirates…. Wow. Impressive! Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! Shiver me timbers!
I don't dislike the show, I think it is quite entertaining. But I am very confused about what the target audience was meant to be. Is it a show for adults? That would make making the protagonists kids really weird. Is it a kids show? Putting the protagonists as kids would really imply that, I mean it could be that they specifically targeted adults who didn't made the mental jump to adulthood completely, but that would be even weirder. Anyhow, for a kids show some of the imagery is... intense and not just on an implied level. I honestly have no idea who they were aiming for. Like, okay, is it Bronies? Like, this is the one part that confuses me. And it is not one of these 90s adventure movies for the whole family, which usually start out with both adult and kid characters, no, these are specifically kid characters. And they are pre-teen. I am hilariously confused by the direction the show is going with the protagonists it has. I'm genuinely confused about this.

Just saying, Wouldn't have happened to a Mandalorian Freighter.
This is why I love your commentary! It's so well thought out.
Hello
Am from the new order.
Am here to help.

"i smell profit"- Hondo
I really hope appears, or at least gets mentioned in Skeleton Crew.
@samuelstephen8147 it would be good if we eventually see him in live action unfortunately I don't think it will be in Skeleton crew mentioned maybe though
12:56 took me out 😂.
wait i DID hear it right ??? "Empire expanded to much of known galaxy and also YOUR MOM" bruh moment
Def had to back it up.
That last bit caught me off guard lmao
Organized pirate organizations almost always are built by ex-military and professionals. During the age of sail, most pirates had extensive backgrounds from the various Navies or merchant ships. Pirate ships were run with the same efficiency as Navy ships. There were no partying or shenanigans going on daily. Hence the experience with boarding ships and professionalism seen while doing it.
What a lot of people forget as well is that most of the times, pirates were shipping their own cargo and worrying about other ships trying to capture them. They made their money selling these stolen goods at legit trade hubs.
Love u big bro ❤. Thanks for all you do.
Well said as usual
I’m starting to think Werner Herzog was right about the Empire
12:56 the burn
I wasn't reminded of where my allegiance should be so I've decided to join the Empire peace and security for our new New Galactic Empire
I wonder if we’ll see the Second Galactic Civil War in live action. Dave seemed to hint at that with “is the Galaxy any better than when the Empire was in control?”
Best ending to a video. EVER.
And also your mom.
Thanks man, needed a chuckle.
Everyone in the galaxy should hire and train PMC's or sheriffs to deal with crime without relying on some inept government
There’s a third choice: despotic dolphin rule
We also have to remember that at this point there are probably multi generation pirates. People whose parents or even grandparents got their start looting in the pre clone wars.
Kinda like living with the fact Steve Urkel is an alien pirate
So Darth Jar Jar vs Darth Urkel?
Hey Alan could you do a video on what if the empire droids instead of organic imperial army troopers, navy troopers and stormtroopers
All Hail the Zann Consortium!!! 🤠👍
Who’d guess when a fledgling rebel government takes over, there’d be other bad actors struggling to fill the same power vacuum
After watching The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, I have absolutely no trouble understanding why remote hyperspace routes are increasingly plagued by piracy.
👍🏿 have a great weekend
14:10 wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for New Republic, Captain Carson Teva
I would like to see some more Star Wars privateers.
those pirates are proberply working with the shadow council and raiding new republic ships to get credits for the council
I like the mean fun bucket character
Piracy in our would was a plague for centuries, only the romans were able to destroy them in the Mediterranean, but I doubt that our modern public opinion would stomach their methods !
Against piracy are needed extreme & ruthless ways, as was done from early 18th century 'til early 20th.
When confronting pirates you can act with "proportionate reaction" (sic), or telling them "Miranda Rights"
It would’ve been so cool if one of the skeletons on the kids’ ship looked like Hando Onaaka’s
New Republic doesn't have drip too. It's pathetic. Their officers look like they're ripped straight out of Futurama.
The thing I don't like about this is as well is that the New Republic has all these all ISD's just sitting around, they could totally refit and use them to attempt to stifle this problem.
Those civilians needs to be under a convoy system. Each ship protecting each other.
Chances are the freight company has insurance. It could even be more profitable to write off the loss.
I don’t think they’ll do this but wouldn’t convoys make a difference against pirates?
its a cost issue, most independent freighters wouldn't be able to afford it
We could probably draw a few parallels between the piracy in the early years of the New Republic and the golden age of piracy.
But the Republic is not unified like Britain; it is even less unified than the Holy Roman Empire was. The only security fleets are sector fleets.
Crime creates poverty
Just as poverty creates crime.
A vicious cycle...
Have you ever read SPACE VIKING by H. Beam Piper ?
How could the alderanians claim to be a diplomatic Mission after they shot at the police
Hondo my favorite pirate
I get not wanting an authoritarian military but at least an actual navy and coast guard/trade defense protection. I mean we saw in the old republic no military at all always turns into a hastily adopted military with little oversight. Better to have a military created with careful consideration and oversight
Can you do a vid on what star ship humans right now and would they be any good
Love your vid
Really a your mom joke smh lol perfect
I enjoy SM-33 in skeleton crew 👏
Well Smee is fun so far
The New Republic sees a problem
Bounty Hunters sees it as income
I would recommend a course on Udemy: Ship Security Officer for Beginners - Exam Preparation
They will not be chumps.
In recent days the Syrian war collapsed
The war left warlords everywhere and a new Republic in charge of half of Syria while terrorist organizations pick up abandoned equipment.
That's basically the collapse of the galactic empire in Star wars.
No Jedi = pirates and warlords.
Power apores a vacuum
I do wonder what a fully crewed freighter was doing in space without cargo. It might've just served as a reason for the pirate crew to mutiny against their captain as far as the showrunners are concerned, and a bit of a plot hole. It's probably not significant to the overall story anyway.
I've heard a few theories:
The Republic needs a actual chief executive who act outside the Senate like a president type figure instead of a ceremonial chancellor.
Last time they had one of those he declared himself emperor.
Mom joke. Priceless
Yea Benjamin Franklin was wrong. Without security you can never have liberty you can only have havoc and anarchy.
The tyranny of the law less, after a gang can oppress you just as much as a king, and often have far less concern about long term planning.
Why not a representive republic
Because that wouldn't work in a Galaxy as large as Star Wars. They probably couldn't even find everyone to vote on Coruscant let alone do whole Galactic regime changes.
Pirate can not be solve only limited. space is just to vast to control.
Was that a "Your Mom," snuck in there?
Dude you're probably my favorite Star Wars guys, because you don't take this shit tooo serious, but serious enough that you can actually talk about it as if it were a theoretical thing. And you're not above dropping a random "your mom" in the middle of a paragraph.
The new republic in the EU definitely wouldn’t be having this problem.
Because the New Republic remained militarised and didn't follow the traditions of the Old Republic.
0:19 haha is funny cus it true to America today ho ho ohhh 😅
I miss the legends NR
A dysfunctional government that usually needed Luke, Han, Leia, and Lando to solve anything?
@@Hartzilla2007 basically it's the other worse option that wouldn't make much of a difference.
This actually do make sense look at Germany after worl war 1 America atleast learbed that lassson with japan during ww2
Where’s Hondo Ohnaka?
Looks like Brazil, since we turned into a republic we have been dealing with narcos even since XD Long live the empire, literally
Well from what i have seen half of the outer rim is patrolled by one portly asian dude in an x wing.
Only so much he can be expected to do
Anyone else think Mon Mothma and the new Republic are completely incompetent. You know, let's go back a pre-clone wars stance with defense forces and military. So so dumb, let's completely restore a broken system instead of trying to replace it with a better one, but no let's take the only parts that work and change them making certain things over complicated.
S1E1: This Could Be a Real Adventure = 7/10
S1E2: Way, Way Out Past the Barrier = 8/10
The second episode was definitely better than the first episode.
1. Brutus
2. Jod Na Nawood (We’ve barely seen him but Jude Law’s character will likely be the most popular being a former Jedi as most MALE characters are usually the most popular in any SW project)
3. Fern (She’s a conniving little girl, isn’t she? She’s Icebox from The Little Giants mixed with Mouth from The Goonies)
4. SM-33 (yes, Mr. Smee, I get the reference to Peter Pan)
5. Neel
6. KB
7. Wim
8. Wendle
9. Fara
I saw Urkel for a few seconds. Can’t rank Gunter yet. Go, Brutus 🐺! Shares the same name as Popeye the Sailor Man’s rival, Brutus aka Bluto.
1. Andor
2. The Mandalorian
3. Ahsoka
4. The Skeleton Crew
5. Obi-Wan Kenobi
6. The Book of Boba Fett
7. The Acolyte
I could see TSC fall off even below Kenobi.
44 years and still judged by others
No wonder you said woke. You need other MEN to make you feel better
As a bisexual? I think that’s rather gay. But I’m never surprised by the fragility of males in Star Wars
No thank you.
@@Planag7 Yep, lost everyone with that nonsense.
Mon Mothma wasn't any better than Palpatine. Leia should have been in charge !
I hate the new New Republic. The idea that the Galaxy forgot how to run a gov't after only 20 years of Empire is stupid.
👍

It's cause the Jedi don't exist. Remember those keepers of the Peace before Order 66. They might have had something to do with that.
No, the previous Republic also had huge piracy issues.
Easy the new republic in the Disney universe is a failure at least in the old eu they had guts
