Such a awesome tutorial! Thank you very much! The result is fabulous, and now I'm not worried about the seamless toe-up socks I've been wanting to attempt. You explain the technique splendidly! 👍
This looks to be pretty easy , I will try it. However, does it matter that the working yarn is coming from the front needle? Or have I viewed that incorrectly? I only knit 1pair of socks with magic loop but certainly want to do it again. And I have viewed other videos that indicate working yarn comes from back needle. Please clarify ‘cause I’m now confused. Thanks! I do love your videos, very clear!
Hi Elena. You are absolutely right - the working yarn should be at the back. When we just cast on stitches it is between the two needles so it could seem a bit confusing. In the first round, we pull the bottom needle out and start working the stitches that are sitting on the top needle (it happens at around 4:50 in the video). At that point, the yarn is attached to the bottom needle, so when we start knitting, the yarn stays at the back. I hope this explanation helps :-) Happy knitting!
I bought the pattern and am super excited to do it but this cast on is not working for me. I pull the needle from the top or back depending on how you see it, to knit magic loop and I noticed you are pulling the needle from the bottom to knit the top needle. I have tried and tried to do it your way but it just goes against everything I know and I am messing it up after multiple tries. Is there a way to do this cast on using the top needle to knit? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I haven't knit this cast on before.
Hi Barb. With the setup explained in this tutorial, the cast on edge will be visible if you pull the top needle instead of the bottom one. But don't worry, it is ok to use any type of cast on that allows you to give a seamless start to your toe-up socks. Happy knitting :-)
I can't wait to try this. Thank you for making a clear and concise video.
Thank you very much. Explained slowly and simply. With clear, closeup visuals. No jarring music. 👌👌👌👌👌
