    Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I was struggling with making an invisible join while knitting intarsia in a sweater in the round! I am brand new to short row heels & toe up socks so this makes so much sense. I've watched other videos about this and sometimes it's hard to see the wrap & turn on the purl side. These "twin stitches" make it much easier to see when to turn. Thank you so much!

    First, let me say that I love your videos; they are clear, short, and on point
    One suggestion here though: You will find a neater result if you insert your needle tip through the head only of the purl stitch when making shadow wraps on the purl side. (I see that you enter your needle through the whole stitch here.)
    Please. try my suggestion to see what you think, and keep up the great videos! Thanks. :)

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks for this note, March Air. I'm happy you find my tutorials useful :-) You are absolutely right - purling through the bar of a stitch is a classic way to make "shadow wraps". But I find it more tricky to do than working into the stitch. Considering that it doesn't affect much the finished look of the project, I usually simplify this step and purl into the stitch. That's the "adjustment" I mentioned at the very beginning of this video. Thanks again for bringing it up :-)

    What an elegant alernative to the wrap and turn! Many "easy alternatives" only make things more complicated, but not this one. I am definitely going to try this technique. I wonder how it works when the same stitch gets multiple wraps.

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gritter, I'm happy you like this technique :-) I've never tried to make multiple wraps in the same stitch. My guess is, it could get bulky at some point. Let me know how it looks once you get to test it. Thanks :-)

    • @johanschneiders6293
      @johanschneiders6293 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@10rowsaday I tested it on a short row heel and it works great! I would even say it looks better than the wrap and turn or German short rows for this application. Because the stitch below holds 3 stitches(the original stitch and two shadow wraps), it tends to look stretched out after working the second shadow wrap. This will, however, fix itself when knitting past the "triple stitch". Also, when "combining" the wrapped stitches on the wrong side, a p2tog results in a shadow wrap in front on the right side of the work. To end up with the original stitch in front, you would have to work a ssp instead. That being said, you really cannot see the difference and a p2tog is much quicker to work.

    Since I have never done a short row heel, I like your method and want to try it on the toe up socks I am now making, But I have a question. This is done on the part that increases the heel. How does this effect the part that decreases the heel stitches? I hope I asked that correctly. Thank you

    • @10rowsaday

      Hi Berni, Usually, the pattern will tell you what to do during each step of shaping the heel. When it instructs you to make short rows, feel free to use the method described in this tutorial. The rest is up to the pattern you follow. Happy knitting :-)

    I don't understand how I would do a shadow wrap in GARTER stitch. Can you explain this please?

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nola, I haven't tested this method with garter stitch, but my guess is that you should continue to work in the garter stitch pattern when you turn your work after making a shadow wrap. The shaping won't be invisible because you will have more garter ridges in the segment of your project shaped by short rows.

  • @maggiepatterson7949

    I am doing a short rose mohair and silk Scar. It’s asking for slip one and continue knitting and for the next row turn. Do I need to slip the one??? Because it’s leaving a whole

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Diane. If the pattern uses the usual "wrap and turn" technique to create short rows, you need to wrap the stitch with the yarn before you slip that stitch. That way there will be no hole when you slip the stitch. Otherwise, you can always use the technique explained in this video tutorial instead of the "wrap and turn". Happy knitting :-)

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! It's just a different way to make short rows. You can use it on any occasion when you would use "wrap & turn".

  • @peggyacree6549
    @peggyacree6549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like this version of short rows and plan to try it. But, I have a question - I have a pattern that has several different stitches. One of the stitches is the double seed stitch that has to be increase every 4th row. Is there a way to do this increase without making it look sloppy and coming out so that you do not have to readjustment to next seed stich over (i.e., without having 2 knit stitches together?)

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Peggy, you can incorporate the increased stitch in the pattern right after you make the increase. Simply knit or purl the new stitch depending on the way you work a stitch next to it. This way, the pattern won't be interrupted. Happy knitting :-)

  • @gavazzaluisella7414

    • @10rowsaday

      If you mean doing the short rows on the purl side of the work, picking a shadow wrap from the stitch below is easier than fishing for the correct strand, and it does not affect the look of the finished short rows. Happy knitting!

    And I recently used this method (but not learned from this tutorial) and HATE IT. I’ve been knitting for eons and this was just a hot mess. I’ll take a simple w&t any day. That said, this tutorial was way better than the one I saw and the pattern instructions were terrible so that was likely the problem. I’m sure if I’d seen this tutorial my socks would look a lot better. In the end though it seems like a lot of work for nothing.

      Gaylyn, there is nothing wrong with using the techniques that we like regardless of the number of similar techniques available out there.
