  • Hi All,
    The Land Rover Defender X went back to JLR today and I miss it alreadly. Everything you need to know on the Defender 110 p400 for road driving.
    Having driven the new Range Rover P400, the Defender it is a great car on the road, definitely on my list as a next car.
    What’s your view on the Defender? Do you like the design?
    Thanks for watching
    Regards
    Richard

    I have the V8 Carpathian for nearly 3 years now.
    I am keeping it for as long as I can, I cannot think of another car that suits me and makes me feel so happy to drive.
    We've been on drives to Scotland (8 hours) and feel refreshed, 24+mpg
    I take it full of stuff through the fields when my heavy tractor gets bogged down.
    I is the perfect mix
    Insurance:-
    V8 Carpathian
    F-Pace SVR
    BMW 850i
    Audi A3
    Tractor
    All the above just under £3000 with the NFU

    To close the mirrors hold both buttons either side of the toggle switch together at the same time. To open do the same. 20 inch wheels on ours is perfect. Been a great vehicle for two years plus now.

    I have a D300 HSE X-dynamic with loads of extra's. cheaper than the one you have.
    I find the ride better than the full Hybrids, as you are dragging the battery around with you.
    Know of quite a few who have swapped to the D300 as it works out cheaper to run, unless always on short runs.
    Also getting average 34mpg in mine,
    Incredbile car, 9th land rover, and the best so far
    If you can try a D300 X-Dynamic.

    I’m going from a Taycan into a p400. I’ve loved the look of these for so long and feel the comfort, practicality and general feeling of lounging around will encourage me to not drive as aggressively as the Taycan makes me!

    Like you, I tend to buy second hand. Defenders make strong money - £50k at about 4 years' old, whereas the RRS is about £40k, and the Discovery Sport and Velar about £30k. At that age, the RR Sport seems to be the pick of the bunch. But I do love the Defender, especially with the spare wheel delete.

    Hi Richard, I totally agree with you regarding the defender having purchased an HSE X Dynamic D300 last year. However i am struggling getting a reasonable insurance quote, I have filled in your insurance form around 10 days ago but I haven't yet heard anything. My insurance is due for renewal on 21st March along with my wifes car and home insurance.

    The mirrors fold in below a certain speed by pressing both the left and right mirror switches together. I was missing some usb sockets on mine when buying and it didnt have a locking fuel filler cap which it shiuld have

    • @nicholascross1961
      @nicholascross1961 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can retrofit the locking fuel cap. It is only missing electronics module… the locking mechanism and wiring are all there. I did it for mine and works perfectly!!

    Nothing compares to a new Defender in the UK and the Black 130 Urban with roof lights is a Hooligan of a car...but the new Landcruiser will be in demand for it's first year and therefore I'd expect its depreciation would be far less than the LR when comparing two similarly priced 4x4's.

    They're really nice, unfortunately I'm having issues with my new one (2020 P400 X) - vibration in the mid-60s and its not wheel balance - I had them road force balanced. Some interior damage noted (headliner is crumpling up on the driver door edge and pushing the b-pillar cover and rubber seal out of place), selling dealer not helping much, warranty said interior isn't covered even though the salesman said it was, and the local dealer I took it to to be diagnosed put 2 scratches in the passenger side. Wouldn't have expected so much trouble on a car with 5k miles. Still waiting to have that argument but we have some family issues going on at the same time. I do love driving it especially the driving position and visibility coming from a saloon, but unless that vibration issue is sorted out I can see this turning into a rejection battle.

    • @Challengetheroad
      @Challengetheroad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you - maybe a wheel spigot issue, check if it needs them, as it sounds likely they are not on the alloys

    • @system11yt
      @system11yt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Challengetheroad I don't think it needs any, can't find reference to them and it's the standard 5095 alloys. They've been balanced to within 20g which is better than any general tyre place can do. The annoying part is the ping pong of the dealer down south saying I should get the local to deal with the issues, and the local are saying the dealer down south should be sorting it out. It's a 2.5 hour drive. I dislike buying cars over a distance for exactly this reason but it was the right spec with the right options (fabric roof, surround sound, interior colour etc).

    • @LandRoverDS2020
      @LandRoverDS2020 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Get them to check for any missing balance weights on your drive shafts , my Touareg had a imbalance at 60 ish and was a missing weight.

    • @system11yt
      @system11yt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LandRoverDS2020 Thanks, I'll suggest it and see what they say - they currently claim wheel alignment 'might' fix it, but the steering wheel is perfectly straight and theres no pulling so I'm not sure it will achieve much.

    • @LandRoverDS2020
      @LandRoverDS2020 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@system11yt Doubt it's the wheel alignment. Maybe if you can crawl under the car and check yourself, it's easy you'll see where if it's missing where it was welded it stamped on.I had to go to a Porsche dealership and ask them for ideas seeing the Cayenne is basically the same SUV. VW at that point had changed transfer case, front drive shaft. So the Porsche guy said check the weights and sure enough on the rear shaft you could see where the weight was (painted area ) and was missing.
      Needless to say with all the parts that were replaced that Touareg was so smooth on the highway.

    I was dreaming about this Defender model, specifically hybrid one. But I found, how small the trunk space is. If you really want to carry stuff and not to fold-in the rear seats - there is no room, even close the same, as in Volvo XC60, or Audi Q5. This is not the proper car for the long journeys with load of the stuff on board, unfortunately. Also, the mpg is ridiculous, especially with the current gas price.

    • @Challengetheroad
      @Challengetheroad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wish I had more to do the boot space but hopefully the lend me another one soon! Its a shame the hybrid battery is not in the floorspace, allowing more room in these vehicles.

      What is also interesting, that during the test drive I found, that even the Discovery Sport hybrid has more practical boot space, than a Defender. Seems like the hybrid solution for Defender was not think well and they made the main bet on the non-hybrid models.
