    Had my 110
    P300 for 2
Years now, best car I’ve ever owned, use it as a van with all my tools etc during the week, then the wk ends it’s a nice refined car. Most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever owned. If I stay under 70 mph I can get 30mpg out of it. Also never had a problem with it.

As an actual real life owner of Land Rovers (not the usual friend, colleague, guy I know), Land Rovers are fantastic cars. My last Discovery Sport was superb.

I agree with you totally, they are fabulous cars and wouldn’t want to change ours for the world. We have a D250 6cl diesel which we’ve proudly owned for 18 months. In this time we’ve had 2 trips to France, Arcachon and ill de re and both were brilliant. The car is a complete joy and so refined and averaged between 35-40 mpg which really isn’t bad and actually better than our old XC90!
I would have gone for the hybrid but wasn’t an option at the time and agree for a majority of journeys locally the range is perfect so 20mpg on the odd long trip isn’t really too much of a hardship. Great car and we love it 👍

We have had that exact model (without the explorer pack) since May '22 and use it to tow our 2000KG caravan - which it does with ease. The rest of time it's either short journeys in EV mode or hybrid mode (SAVE for motorway trips and keep EV for the town.) It's an awesome vehicle, makes you feel so safe, it's comfortable and the design is fab. Like you, I always look back at it - Eiger Grey and Black looks fab. Great review and glad you both enjoyed your trip and the drive :)

I had one for 9 months. It was fun, but I already had a daily driver SUV and my 2019 Toyota 4Runner just proved better for trail use, which is the opposite of what I needed in a "new" Defender lol
I have nothing bad to say about the Defender though! It was extremely comfortable and great fun and superior to drive in the winter snow and on open country/desert trails that allow faster speeds. Independent suspension is excellent for the high speed stuff. I had a lot of fun and great memories car camping in my 110 too! Unfortunately, where I already have a superior SUV as my daily driver, and found myself favoring my 4Runner for off-road adventures, I obviously gave up the Defender. It was only that I didn't have a need for it, given what I already owned, and NOT because it was a bad vehicle, because it was super fun lol.
My daily is also Land Rover (just more expensive lol), so I love the brand!
I love seeing videos of owners that enjoy them so much! I'd buy one again! I'm actually digging the 130! It is more in-line with how I'd use it! Capable family hauler!

When my wife bought a discovery sport, we had a voucher to go to a off road half day outing, we picked the defender because I always wanted to try one since they came out, was so amazed by it, I didn't realise that going off road would be as much fun as driving a sporty car on track, definitely on my wish list but may be a while till I could afford one cause even used prices are quite high on them.

Proper xmas landscape and skiing xmas day was a highlight. Used to drive it overnight in or E Class back in the day (early 2000s) and the last drive in a Freelander 2 GS. No issues at all. Brings back memories. What tyres were you running on? Our son was in school in Villars Switzerland for five years. We used to visit every six weeks during term time when we lived in Basel. I often watched land/range rovers spinning down the mountain road on the wrong tyres. Unfortunately a range rover went through a barrier and plunged down the side of the mountain, killing all inside. I had a BMW 5 series touring( RWD) on winter tyres. I also had a set of chains which I never had to use on that road. I remember once having to help a British couple who were stuck again wrong tyres. The road was so slippery I fell flat on my back. When I got home I told my wife what happened. She knew it was true since when she looked at my back she could see the imprint on my pullover on my back. When you go back in February make sure you have winter tyres on the vehicle and enjoy the skiing.

Surprised at the fuel consumption as I know slightly more aerodynamic but…. I did Edinburgh & back - 600 miles in a RR Sport P400 PHEV & I fully charged the battery before leaving, once at Tebay Services M6 North & once at our destination in Edinburgh before our return 300 miles journey without recharging and we achieved, at 70mph both ways 50 mpg!! Absolutely brilliant! Can’t praise the car enough. I know have an I Pace but after the hassle of EV Charging over Xmas 22 with everyone it now seems running EVs (no such problem in 2021 or 2020) I would definitely by the F Pace P400 PHEV for my next car & skip halfway charging unless the infrastructure, dramatically improves.

I have the Evoque P300e PHEV Autobiography and the combination of electric with the turbo charged petrol engine is great. I noticed you said on the Defender that the engine can't charge the battery. On our half day at Eastnor Castle we tried the Evoque PHEV and were told that in the Mud & Ruts mode the engine will charge the battery (not something they tell you in the manual), so not sure if the Defender is different. Because on the Evoque the engine drives the front wheels and the electric the back wheels, so with the engine charging the battery, you can always have 4 wheel drive.

I would love one of these - and an original 110 but agree the original is not good to drive in. I have a RR Sport V6 diesel which is just fantastic - always wanted an original Range Rover (and still do) but figure the Sport is way better option nowadays. Tows the caravan with ease and economical to boot. The spec on this 110 - a winch with 22 inch rims! I changed the 22 to 20 inch rims and rides so much better and can go off road now too. Great video as usual - cheers from Australia

Enjoyed the video 👍We found in our Discovery Sport that mpg on the autoroute with items such as roof boxes and doing 80mph was poor, for the DS anyway, getting around 30mpg. I think the 2.0L engines aren't the best for long miles and heavy cars. The 2nd gen JLR hybrid system is now in the new RR/RRS and seems to be mated to the 6 cylinder engines which I think will make much more sense in the Defender. I have a 130 this weekend to play with in D300 guise. Will be driving it along your favourite road in the soaking wet... It's huge!

Not sure of the logic of “Save” mode recharging the battery? Plug-ins should always be charged from the grid. On the motorway just increases the fuel burn.

Happy New Yew Mr & Mrs PP, what a lovely adventure to have together with the Pups over New Year. Real shame about the lack of snow but yet another real life objective insight to life with the Defender and a cracker to start your 2023 content. JLR and particularly with the LR & RR brand products have created some really smart, good looking vehicles and an extremely strong customer base, despite the very well known and documented post purchase customer experience which includes 'in warranty' interactions. If they would take the time to invest and transform the customer interaction culture across the brand it would take the brand to another level. The vehicle you drove on your trip is a very stealthy, smart and cool looking thing, good enough to justify the steep price tag for those in the market for something in this category and with the budget. I do however, have a slight, but to me (and the drivers following one) an important annoyance. The rear indicator cluster is completely useless in practice and verging on the dangerous, another case of design and styling over safety and practicality in my opinion. At least it is in a separate cluster for those drivers who indicate and break simultaneously making the red and orange light illumination totally indistinguishable from each other. Just a personal point though directed at LR. Looking forward to a content filled 2023 Ped. Tipping a glass of thanks and admiration to the late, great Ken Block. We have so much to thank him for and will miss what he did for the motorsport and entertainment world and my thoughts are with his family. Desperately sad, Hoon easy KB

Will this fall apart like a clown car after 40K like most other Landrovers. Is the 2.0 petrol hybrid combo really big enough to lug around 2.2 tonnes? Will this be another coolant gobbling, manifold cracking, cylinder blowing nightmare of long term ownership? Would be interested in hearing from someone with 80K on the clock.

Great Video as always. I've had 2 SWB 90 Defenders in the Old Gen 1 shape. 1st 1 was a rare RAF SWB S3 2.25D & 2 was a Red 90 again SWB. Would really like the Gas guzzling V8 in a 90 shape again, but as you say any option atm is an expensive 1. Funny some of your drive reminded me, when I came back from Rimini in Italy via the Mont Blanc Tunnel and stopped near Macon. Not as nice as where all 4 of you stayed, but did it's job.

I do love the looks of the defender and love that so many say it’s the car the discover 5 should have been - I’ve heard anecdotally it’s stealing sales from the disco. If I was remotely confident they had actually addressed their reliability issues I’d buy one for azure - defo my preference over a disco, especially when you look at prices of both. We used to drive down to the alps in my parents disco 1 - it’s when it came in t it’s own, especially gong up the mountain in deep snow at the end f a no day. Mum and I would swap seats at the bottom of the mountain as dad and I had driven it so much off road and was scared of driving on snow whereas dad and I were used to driving and knowing the car in extremis. We drove it one year with snow settling on motorway and it just dug its shoulder in, was amazing and didn’t skip a beat in really nasty conditions and dong 2,500 miles by time we’d done Surrey to flaine and back as well as three airport transfers.
We got home and a week later, spat it’s turbo, Intercooler, clutch, rear diff, power steering pump etc - despite service week before, with fresh everything oils etc.

    @HawkMillFarm ปีที่แล้ว +1

It does appear to only have half an engine, as much as I like the EV bit which is nice when you can use it, stop/start traffic etc. A V6 would seem more appropriate in a vehicle that size (says the man who hasn't driven it). For comparison my Cayenne Diesel S (V8) has done up to 36mpg on a trip like that so ~1000km on a tank full.

    Afternoon PP
    Feeling better ?
Just my opinion as never I’ve driving a Defender but why did they not make it a 3 litre PHEV as surely a 2 litre petrol carrying all that weight would give poor mpg as I know someone who owns a Volvo xc90 and he’s often complaining that once battery drained not only is it poor mpg but it’s straining when car fully loaded.
    Still take one tho
    😀

An interesting video, particularly as I drive down to Provence every couple of years and nine months ago I bought a Range Rover Sport P400e which has the same drive train, although the hybrid battery is a little smaller than the Defender’s.
Despite that, the RRS weighs more, which is why I was surprised at your economy stats.
I’m getting 28-32 mpg on long motorway journeys (4 hours) and my daily commute of 13 miles each way is giving me 75-200 mpg depending on traffic conditions and temperature. I would have expected you to achieve similar or better; I suspect your cargo box, ladder and roof rack are what make the difference. They may look good but I think they may prove to be expensive options.

Surprised just how poor your MPG was on the trip. Back in September I took my RR Sport P400e to Lake Garda from Edinburgh (with bike in the back for Stelvio/Monte Baldo etc) and over 3,300 miles averaged 29.2 MPG................and that was with only one battery recharge on the entire trip. Like you I sat at the motorway limit for most of the trip. I'm about to order the new RR Sport, however, with the MHEV D300 and that's because the torque characteristics of the small highly tuned petrol engine just do not work well with a 2.7 ton truck. The new P440e does, to be fair, come with a much bigger capacity petrol unit so may be better suited to a car of this bulk.
