    I still remember the moment I first heard of The Stone Roses. The autumn of '91, after school, plopped down in front of the television, and a music video station dropped the vid for 'I Wanna Be Adored'. I recorded it and was mesmerized. It was so simple and yet so damn good. "I don't have to sell my soul, he's already in me." Pure poetry. It was a few weeks before I was able to find a record store that carried the album, but when I got my hands on it, I don't think I listened to anything else for two weeks straight. Another classic - you're banging them out. 👍
    Edit: can confirm, Canada did have the black letters and the 'O' on the front cover. As well, I love that we discovered them in the exact same way, except my experience was with Much Music (Canada's MTV, that played a lot more alternative and international cuts as opposed to MTV that had 120 minutes and not much else).

      I feel like I have one of those Canadian pressings. The Canadian pressings were always essentially the same anyway, but every once in a while they'd have different track listings and labels.

    Classic record for the your 200th!
    I completely agree - 1990 was amazing for music, warts and all. Sometimes it seemed like too much to keep up with. Maddchester kinda hit the US alt charts pretty hard back then, don’t think?
    Fool’s Gold was the first thing I heard by the Roses, and even though it was different than the rest of the album, all of their stuff was so good. It’s a hard record to make a follow up for.
    I love that your videos are 4 years going strong and looking forward to see where you go!

    Congrats on 200 videos! And I´m still here, watching most of them start to finish. I always feel like I´m listening to a fellow music nerd during a normal, good old conversation - a sensation most other You Tubers can´t evoke because of their fast paced and super cut-to-the-max videos that feel like one long sentence. That's one reason your vids are longer than theirs and I like it! Gives me fucking anxiety listening to someone who doesn´t seem to breathe every once in a while. Keep on doing what you do exactly how you're doing it.

    I discovered your channel about a year ago and I’m addicted to your videos - mainly because you’re into pretty much the same music as me. IDM, electronic, early 90s Brit stuff. I guess it helps being a similar age (I’m 51 now ffs) but I also admire your vast knowledge around these bands. I know you have a background with Discogs - I feel I can learn a lot from you about new music and old obscure long forgotten artists. It’s not just about relating - you’re educating me too! For instance - Pink Industry.. I didn’t know anything about that band until I saw your video.
    There are other TH-camrs that talk about music and their collection but none are more direct, comical and detailed. I love your don’t give a f*ck attitude and straight to the point talk.. Your passion about the best years and general despise for the way things are today. I’ll admit I used to subscribe to Anthony Fartano but he’s too superficial and covers a lot of crap (he’s a big fan of rap which Ive never liked). I followed other TH-camrs way back before Fantano started up - but they stopped uploading 15+ years back. Hopefully you don’t follow suit anytime soon. I need something to watch when I’m lone working my night shifts at the hospital morgue!

    • @eelponna3145
      @eelponna3145 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What did it for me about Fartano is once he gave an Autechre album 4 out of 10 and went on to give a Lady GaGa album a 9. Anyone knows you can’t review an Ae album days after it comes out - it can take years of listening to fully understand the beauty of an Autechre album. I just thought “what a stupid twat”! after he did that& unsubed him!

    • @occasionalfeelgood23
      @occasionalfeelgood23  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@eelponna3145 Fartano, hahaha. I’m gonna use that in my next video. I was a little embarrassed about him as I didn’t learn about him until a decade after he started. When I finally did see him I was utterly unimpressed, but ultimately unsurprised he was popular. He’s the Walmart of music criticism basically: he offers nothing of substance, but the product is cheap and quick. There are also tons of other Walmarts out there delivering the same average crap, like TH-cam. And yeah, he clearly is dishonest by rating Autechre so low and Lady Gaga so high. He either has a vested interest in such opinions, or he’s got shitty taste, but either way, that makes him a twat. I got inspired by a guy named Dereck Higgins. He basically just sits there and talks about music and has unique opinions. I ended up unsubbing from him because he’d be rude to me when I was actively supporting him, haha. I kinda get his attitude, though. I know that a lot of content creators such as me end up being defensive and angry because we take a lot of abuse from people who just want to torture others. It gets old, man. The vast majority of people who watch videos and behave have no clue what goes on behind the scenes sometimes. I’ll keep going, I’m just seeing a sharp decline in interest with my channel, and that’s entirely my fault. At the same time, I gotta pay my bills and put my energy behind things that support me financially. Hope that makes sense!

    • @eelponna3145
      @eelponna3145 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@occasionalfeelgood23 there’s a reason people like Fartano exist - it’s because ultimately the ThikTok masses today have short attention spans and are incapable of deep thinking. I don’t blame him for doing short, uninspired and lightweight reviews about radio friendly bands in a way - it works in the sense that he’s become quite wealthy and successful doing it. He’s popular but ultimately a dull experience for the more serious music listener such as us old gits. I understand your frustrations - your channel not getting the views and attention it deserves etc, but there is a micro fraction out there that appreciates your efforts, believe me! I’d like to make TH-cam videos myself but my vinyl collection isn’t that big (sadly I was a CD guy throughout the 90’s). But to be honest my job and family life make me too tired to watch, let alone make, videos most of the time. Since Brexit life in the UK has become even more tough and we’re all paying more and working our bollocks off here! One upshot is that the dystopian backdrop and decay going on in England will inspire music to become more interesting again - poverty and misery has always created interesting great bands.

    Nice video, man. It always puts a big smile on my face when I hear people from across the pond appreciate the Majesty of The Stone Roses.
    Impeccable album, and best debut album of all time imo.
    I was an 80s kid into all the synth-pop electronic music that suddenly sprung out of
    the ether, and anything that wasn’t electronic I closed my ears to.
    It wasn’t until I reached my late 20s that I started getting into “proper music” and was aware that The Stone Roses were a special band.
    Funny enough, the only song I really knew was Fool’s Gold , so when I first started listening to The Stone Roses, I was expecting the percussion to be very similar throughouttheir catalogue, so at first I was actually actually disappointed. I heard the Second Coming first and bought the debut album the following year in the late 90’s which blew me away. Been a big fan ever since.
    This and DM-Violator two favourite albums of all time.
    Thanks again - keep making videos!!
