- If you want more power than conventional cartridges, the answer for many big game hunters has often come down to one name....Weatherby! In this video I will be shooting the Weatherby Vanguard chambered in the ever popular 300 Weatherby Magnum. Surprizingly, I found shooting this rifle quite satisfying, and rather easy to control.
Watching the recoil on that was eye-opening. I shoot for fun. Can’t imagine putting 40+ rounds through one of those. The owner of a trucking company I worked for in. The 80s and 90s had a 30-378 Weatherby. Makes me wonder how that felt on the shoulder. It took a grizzly with it. The bear ran about 75 feet and fell over dead.
First rifle i ever bought myself was a weatherby mark v alaskan in 300weatherby. I wish i never sold it but i wanted a 454 casull. So a couple years ago i bought a weatherby vanguard in 300weatherby and I'm real happy with it😊
Great video. I owned a 300 Weatherby Magnum in the 1980's. The recoil was uncontrollable and sold the rifle. Smaller calibers have served me well and I haven't looked back.
I had a Mark 5 in 1986. The recoil was really not bad, even with 180gr bullets. The high comb on the Mark 5 stock let it fall away from your face instead of smacking you in the face.
You're just recoil sensitive. I sighted in 3 - 300's at the same time. The weather be in two RUMs Remington 700 BDL and a Browning A-Bolt medallion II . Not much different than shooting turkey loads out of a 12-gauge. Yeah I was shooting other people's guns in cuz they didn't want to shoot them.
Wussy
Great timing on this video. I was just looking at a Weatherby .300 Win Mag yesterday. They're beautiful rifles that just feel good in your hands.
Nice! Which model rifle did you look at?
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman It is a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter. I was also checking out some Remington model 1100's as well. Would really like to get myself one of those.
Norma used to load Weatherby Boxed ammunition but, now days several others load for it . I owned two of them, 1 FiberMark and one a LazerMark shooting 180 grain Nosler Partition .
@@christinamoneyhan5688 I figured Norma loaded Weatherby rounds. That makes perfect sense. Thanks.
Always enjoy your videos!
I think the .300 Weatherby Mag. Uses a Hornady Interlock bullet for the standard factory round. Thanks for all you do sir.
Correct
Correct
Yes it does
Another great video! Thank you Sir!
Thanks. I did this video on a whim -so to speak.
I sighted a Weatherby Mark V . 300 Weatherby for an associate years ago . As I recall that rifle /cartridge had 50 ft/lbs of recoil , way too much for our local deer but it was beautiful rifle .
In 1986, I saved up the $800 for a new Mark 5 Weatherby .300 magnum working on the family farm. I sold it because the only ammo you could get was Norma and IF you could find it, it was 35 to 40 dollars per box of 20 and I couldn't afford to shoot it. You could get Remington .30-06 for $12 or less.
Right! Unfortunately Weatherby ammo in general is very expensive. In my opinion, it would be a good idea to reload no matter which caliber you shoot, but especially the Weatherby cartridges. The 300 Weatherby is not one of those guns you would shoot very much of anyway because they are intended for really big game, so a box of ammo should last several years depending on how much you hunt.
Great video , my .300wby lazermark is very accurate and beautiful I do have a muzzle brake which makes it a lot more fun. Please post more Weatherby rifles and calibers !!!!! I also have a. 257 wby great quarter bore.
Another awesome job Buddy.
Too much kick for me.
Thanks.
I'm glad I never got involved in a belted Magnum cartridge. I got the 300 RUM. Works just fine.
In 5th.
Yea I guessed right!!!
Nice rifle
Was watching that first shot thinking oh shit he's going to scope himself lol
I have the German made Mark V on 300 weatherby magnum. I use IMR 4350. They load Hornady interlock in those. The one's they load with the noslers will say it on the box and are way more expensive.
Beautiful rifle I'm sure. I tend to think the ones I shot were Noslers. Thanks for the info.
Most guys I know who own 300Wby’s use their trusty 30-06’s because of the ammo prices, not to mention the recoil.
I have had norma spitzer and also seen hornady interlock in wby ammo. Hornady loads their eldx 200gr for it, i also have some of those, but not hunted with them.
My shoulder has PTSD now lol
Move the scope dial into the direction you want it to go. Same with rear iron sights front irons sights the reverse.
Right. I simply made the mistake of not reading the dial like I should have. My bad.
My Vanguard backcountry is a tack driver ,my first big bolt gun was a Vanguard in .300 WSM it shot awesome but I traded it in on the backcountry chambered in .300 wby mag , don't feel the need for another bolt action.
The Vanguard is a great rifle. The 300 Weatherby is quite a cartridge.
Norma made the Weatherby ammunition , now others do too. Sight it in on the bench then learn to shoot it standing big difference in the felt recoil mostly due to the stock design.👍✌🏻🇺🇸
Weatherby uses bullets from just about all of the big-name bullet makers.
I didn't know that. Thanks.
We got to pool up and get u a nice shooting table and chair
No kidding! That was painful to watch.
@@marshmutt8975 Sorry about that. I'll try and upgrade my shooting bench in the future.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman Just kidding. You do what works for you. Enjoyed the video...definitely outside your usual box!
good morning..beautiful video! congratulations ! How do I talk to you? I would like to show you a curious example of Remmington from 1950s, and here in Brazil we don't have people familiarized with the history of these old equipment
In reality, it is not the model that is curious but rather an adaptation made in the 1950s. but done with a lot of expertise and perfection. grateful
Looks like the old Speer Grand Slam
That is very likely. I know the Grand Slam series was once very popular. Thanks for your insight.
It is a hornaday interlock bullet.
Five👍
So did any of the young boys try it, or were they all to scared?
I'll try it!
Hornady or Nosler...
Lucky you have glasses on or that scope ring would of left a imprint on your eye.
Actually it never touched my glasses. In the video it looks like the recoil pushed the scope back that far, but in reality I would have felt it. Heavy rifles do indeed need more eye relief for safety.😊
My guess…Nosler Partition.
Good guess, but after seeing the recovered bullet, it must be some kind of bonded bullet.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman…the partition is a bonded bullet

Thats too much gun for me.
Yes sir, nothing that an accurate 30-06 and getting closer to your game won't be able to handle. That's why they call it hunting 👍
Pretty rifle though
