Never thought of using a grape vine over a scrape. I'm gonna give it a try this year. How's your season been going so far? Do you do any fall turkey hunting in TN?

Thanks Tom. I really enjoyed this video. I've made this type of scrape before but never realized that the it should be a green grape vine. I knew that grape vines worked well but didn't know it should be dripping! Thanks for the advise. Really appreciate it. I hope you continue to make deer hunting video's this year. Take care and all the best. :)

First I’ve ever heard of this approach. I’ve made mock scrapes in the past, always being aware of minimizing human scent. I wear rubber boots with estrus scent on the bottom of my boots. Rubber gloves help with minimizing scent left on objects you touch. This makes sense, the vine provides a mock licking branch, which you usually find above a natural scrape. As they say, you can learn something new every day if you pay attention. Thanks for this tip, certainly worth a try.

I love these rifles and thank you for the video. I have a business affiliate who has one of the later ones from the mid-1960s with the tapered receiver and a Weaver scope. It’s come down his family in mint condition due to sadness; his uncle bought it new in 1965 before going to Vietnam. He didn’t survive his tour and the Stevens 87 was a sad reminder. I suggested that maybe the family might honor the uncle by using the rifle. My friend agreed, so we cleaned and lubed it and went to the range. Had a very good time. Rifle was accurate and reliable. My friend and his children have since been using the little Stevens now and again, using it carefully and maintaining it well. But they still refer to it as “Uncle ___’s rifle.” So the sadness that surrounds the rifle has lifted. Hopefully their uncle can see from where he is now that his old .22 is seeing good use by his family!

I bought a Remington Speedmaster in the late 70’s for about $85. It was the only firearm I’ve purchased that constantly gave me trouble. No matter how clean is was and with most ammo it would jam, stove pipe, and misfire. I had the rifle for years and eventually I smashed it and threw it into the trash. It was replaced with a Ruger 10/22. The Ruger has never failed me in over 25 years. My brother in law had the Marlin model 60 and it was probably the most accurate 22 semi auto I’ve shot.

A while back just from studying data on the 22 short l concluded at close range the 22 may be useful for home defense, you touched on this already when you mentioned that we must be concerned about the neighbors farm house,so to everywhere we must be concerned about over power and the 22 short may be the answer but still using care.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to testing my .22s, esp. the Super Wrangler 5.5". That barrel length just looks right. (In addition to the other .22LRs, I've had for a number of years.) The then-new CCI Stingers were impressive during my late fall '78 rabbit hunting, but since then I've heeded warnings about the longer cases damaging the chambers of rifles.
