@The Lyricologist I firmly believe the fact that Tetsuo and Youth and To Pimp A Butterfly came out within 2 months of each other... It felt like the the most perfect Yin and Yang of Hip Hop ever. Sonically, metaphorically, lyrical content wise, feel, creation, who consumed it... It felt like, at that moment, these two individuals encapsulated the light and dark of hip hop, completely. And revisiting these projects shows how much depth, love, though, and being was put into everything. No throwaways. No gimmicks. Just raw self expression in the best sonic environment theyve ever found themselves in. I could very easily argue that these two albums are in the top 5 hip hop albums ever. Actually I could argue these two ARE the best. If you have T&Y and TPAB, you essentially have the essense of hip hop distilled, perfected, mastered. PS. I really want to get into alchemical philosophy right now, but only if its cool.
We still haven't made progress with getting the channel back. BUT, I finally found the backup to the Mural part 1 vid! Enjoy. Help me... OUR ORIGINAL CHANNEL WAS HACKED/DELETED PLEASE Donate to keep Lyricology 101 afloat: paypal.me/lyricology101 OR streamlabs.com/lyricology101
Holy shit the Mural breakdown is back, this is one of the first videos that I've watched from your channel, I remember myself watching it and having my whole perspective on how lyricism works COMPLETELY SHATTERED, good ol days
I have been listening to this work of art and trying to break it down since the album droped. You just reviled a lot. I can no longer listen to this song the same way ever again. I have watched many break down videos no one come close to you. You are truly talented. Im impatiently waiting for the other parts. I cant wait to share this with my other Loupe Fans and have discussion about it.
Really glad to see this is back up, best Mural breakdown on TH-cam bar none. Did you ever make the other parts to this breakdown, were they on your patreon, or if not do you ever plan on making them? Say the word and I’ll drop money on that, no question. Either way, glad you are still finding old stuff, keep going man.
This is my first time visiting your channel. SUPER DUPER deconstruction! I have subscribed and will hit you up on patrón. Considering the lunacy Lupe went through at Atlantic Records, the quality of his body of work has no equal. It’s so obvious he could simply write and release material in the traditional book/academic space. Hip hop and rap may at times turn their backs on Mr.Fiasco. He has not turned his back on rap; although, he would be well within his right. In 20 or 30 years from now, L. Fiasco will be revered for creating art with powerful and sharp clarity of these times . His skillful insights are peers with the likes of F. Dostoyevsky . Drill Music in Zion is a perfect example. It is a single torch lighting the path forward through the darkness into the light.
They deleted our other parts when the channel was hacked. (script, notes, and everything.) If you're interested in part 2, contact me at my Instagram (@lyricology101).
The Cat Chiefin line can also go like, "They catch Chief and wrapped up plants from trap dealins" and it ties into the Chickens/Roosters are artists (rappers) who fall asleep listening to Bach but they catch Chief Keef and what he's talking about (wrapped up plants from trap dealings). There are other lines that go along with this interpretation like the "look at all these toucans in a cemetery full of Tomahawks." Toucans as in two-can do or "I can too" dudes and The Tomahawks are an old school Gang in Brooklyn New York (I dont think Lupe is stupid enough to call out any current gangs lol). So to summarize, one interpretation is that Lupe is speaking about (and to) rappers who sleep on artists that are ahead of their time and are trying to elevate the craft and instead are in tune with gangster rappers that elevate street shit. These rappers follow in these gangster rappers path (musically) and are deep down salty about how good Lupe is and then claim they can do what Lupe does when many others have tried to measure up and failed.
Hahahah Lol are we more. This was the best mural breakdown I've seen yet, too much for you to finish huh. Lupe is easily The Final Boss of rap. Smartest and best rapper ever he makes you think more than any rapper in history and makes you question yourself and own thoughts and feelings and what you life should be about more than anyone. He's S-rank, a real top level truth seeker and philosoher 👁️
I also feel like the way he annunciates his words, let's begin another yarn can be heard as let's begin another yawn. Like this conversation is boring.
Yo bro, you mind reuploading the Aquemini breakdown? If you can't it's okay. I'm really sorry that you lost your channel and it's so frustrating since it was one of the best hip hop related channels. Hope everything is alright man 🙏🏾
"...there are so many different interpretations of the lyrics." I think that's my main issue with not understanding why people hold him at such a high regard: When there are tons of potential, differing interpretations, that *usually* (not always) means that the writer is doing a lot of reaching, which is viable poetic device because is allows the listener to fill in blanks and find meaning, but it's not as impressive to me as having a more cohesive meaning and/or metaphor. I also never really liked his rhyme schemes. But ima keep watching. Maybe this video will convince me. I want to like his stuff more and I've tried before but we'll see.
The beat needing to be a loop in order to help keep focus on the lyrics: couldn't disagree more. That's part of the reason why I think so many lyrical rappers get overlooked. I can't concentrate on the lyrics, and don't really care to, if the beat doesn't make me want to continue listening to the song. When I was looking for Lupe lyric breakdowns, one of the videos in the search results was titled something like "Lupe Fiasco: The Original Kendrick". But a HUUUUUGE part of the reason why people love Kendrick so much is that the music doesn't purposefully skimp in one area (the beat) in order to try and force you to focus on another (the lyrics). The two should complement each other. This is music. The changes in the backing track help maintain interest in the song. And that interest helps me care about what the lyricist is talking about. If the song is a bland loop, I can't see why I'd stick it out to even figure out a deeper meaning. I wish that more lyrical rappers would focus MORE on production and musicality so that their lyrics could actually shine more. I think putting clever lyrics over a monotonous beat is like drenching a high quality steak in ketchup. I'm not tryna eat it and it's a huge waste. Perfect example: I was just listening to Raydar by JID for liek the 4th time and the way the beat and flow switch up together along with the tone of the lyrics made my ear pique to what he was actually saying which was also incredible. And that's the full experience. Jus sayin.
OK, the first screen of lyrics, I'm loving the rhyme scheme and flow and everything. But then that second screen of lyrics he gets on that typical Lupe rhyme scheme that I can't stand where the end of the 2nd line doesn't provide that payoff feeling because it doesn't rhyme with the end of the first line, instead choosing to have it rhyme with an internal phrase ("fly" is internal to the 2nd line...then the 2nd line ends with "buy" to rhyme with "fly"). I'm sure there are plenty of people who like that, or are fine with it. But I think the vast majority like to feel that payoff. IMO, stuff like that is part of why Lupe never got super huge. His most popular song almost never does this. (Kick Push). It almost always ends bars with an expected rhyming sound. That is just so much more musical to me. But yeah.
OK but then that 3rd screen though! The rhyme scheme and flow for especially the first two lines?!?!?! I LOVE THAT SHIT. I need more of that right there. Also, I'm starting to get it? Like that fall asleep listening to Bach line? I woulda never put that meaning together like that, especially the "Bach" being like the "bawk" that we say chickens make.
And it's funny that those two lines specifically were meaningless cause as they came up I was like 'ok here we go with the reaches' lol. But nah, he did that on purpose. OK, ok, I feel you Lupe.
I disagree, the prism line was reference glasses eye prism. Glasses. Looking at a clock thats time. Also, he dropped a ribbon for your eyes, made you look then he says it lacks meaning. Then proceeds to the weed diss to mess with your mind again.
Greatest poets/lyricists of all time: 1) Aesop Rock 2) Lupe Fiasco 3) Jus Allah (from Jedi Mind Tricks) This is my opinion. You can disagree, but I don't care.
"If a pictures worth a thousand words, whats a mural worth?"

he didn't write it, he said he wrote a few things here and there but otherwise he just put it all together in his head.
I was wondering why this wasn't in my favorites anymore.
I did my own breakdown and decided to check in case I missed something. I did. Thanks.
Please being back the other 3🙏🏾
