    I love fishing for largemouth this time of year in the evenings. We HAMMER them when it hits around 7:15pm or later. As soon as the sun sets on our home lake it's game on until dark, it's nice since it's after I get off of work and am able to get out for a couple hours. But he's absolutely right about the light, anyone who fishes for bass in the summer extensively, we all will tell you the same thing.

    I am guilty of fishing too shallow in the summer time. This time of year, I have never been that good at catching bass. With the footage you just showed, I think I need to target those off shore fish, or simply turn around and fish out of the other side of the boat. I'm headed out this weekend Steve and will try to target these off shore bass with the information you just presented. Thanks and have a great weekend.

    How true ! Thanks for verifying my suspicions. I fish almost every day, and I've noticed the small bait has all but disappeared from around my dock, which is usually loaded ! The last couple of weeks, I've taken to fishing more offshore, with good success. Now I just need to concentrate more on the water column closer to the developing thermocline.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is amazing how those water temps are so similar and then it hits that thermocline and drops quite a bit. So glad the camera has a temp gauge on it.

    Great video, it fits what I see at a local lake and been wondering about. The pads and shallows produce very little now, then just off the pads it’s the small bass, then the big ones are further out in 12 ft and deeper. On this lake schools of small gills roam and feed on the surface offshore, like the Shad do in other lakes. I’ve caught several 3 to 4 pounders in a row tossing a Zman Giant TRD on the Zman Magnum Shroomz jig offshore.

    I had issues with the "bass seek cooler water' idea. I live & fish in NW PA. The water temps can barely be compared to those in the Deep South, and LMB live in more northern cooler areas. They don't have ANY problem with 80 degree water as a species. It didn't make sense to me that bass would care about water that warm, that temps would be much different 15 feet down compared to 2 feet down, that oxygen levels would be different. But light levels ARE less and where the 'baitfish' go are important.

    I can conquer this video, I have been fishing from 10:30am to the next day to around 3pm and it amazes me to the bass movement going on Stonewall Jackson Lake in WV. I have done this 3 weeks in a row and from 5am to 8am they will get to the bank after that is over. Shad follow the moonlight on the surface because of insects, and that leads them to the banks sometimes. But following the bass is frustrating because they have full bellies.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It can be really frustrating when they have full bellies. I have some tough fishing around here for a while when the Mayfly hatch is going on. And when you do catch one they look like they are ready to pop from how much they have eaten.

    For the first time this summer, when fishing a crankbait I've fished mainly bluegill and sunfish colored crankbaits as opposed to shad--and I'm definitely picking up more bites. Not sure if they don't see them as much, but I'm fishing shad about 20 or 30% of the time and panfish the other 70-80%.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors

    I love your underwater videos. Now hard would it be to do some pond videos like this. Because they set up different than lakes im sure. The past few days I’ve been catching them 10-20 feet of the bank almost in the middle of the pond.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is an excellent question. I actually have been traveling around to different ponds to try and do just that. The only problem I have been having is the water clarity. So far, all of them I have been too has been too stained to see anything. I am trying to get that video done though.

    I learned more about bass behavior, the first time I ever caught one that had eyelids. lol! 😂😂😂
    I'm kidding!
    But the thought of no eyelids really cleared up my thinking.
    They have to adjust to bright lights by physically relocating to a different location.
    There's also the problem/benefit of huge eyes to a small brain ratio, and an extremely short travel distance.
    Simply eyes to brain ratio!
    I believe this effects their vision like how multiplication vs addition works.
    9+9+9= 27 vs
    9×9×9= 729
    I believe this is how they are able to see really good at night or in murky water.
    Plus using contrast dark to light has to work, because we can even see that.
