Just heard this on my xm/Sirius radio tuned to TomPettys station... why the hell haven’t i heard this amazing rock/blues treasure in the past... Tom Petty was simply amazing. He is so missed.
Just heard this for the first time a couple months ago when my loving man introduced me to it. Where has this gem been hiding all these years?! So beautiful, sensual, sexy, and timeless! Does anyone else get Hall & Oates vibes off this too?
I became a TP fan in my late 30s (I know! What took me so long?) And I'm always digging for new tunes on here and today this one found me. Tom is the greatest, there is no doubt.
Brilliant song...but it's not the Heartbreakers. Mike Campbell is on lead guitar, however. "Since You Said You Loved Me" (1974) Tom Petty - Vocals, Guitar Emory Gordy - Bass Jim Gordon - Drums Mike Campbell - Lead Guitar Al Kooper - Piano, Organ
This is such a great track, I wish I could find it on Spotify. It's supposed to be on the Live at the Fillmore 1977 Deluxe, but it's not. Maybe an import only or something.
Thank you so much for posting this. Do you have any idea what album this was on? I would love to purchase it. iTunes doesn’t have it Spotify doesn’t have it… What a great song but I can’t find it anywhere except right here so thank you so much.
It's from the "Playback" boxed set of previously unreleased material. According to the wiki article it's an unreleased 1974 outtake. Shame if it has never gotten more play--- it's beyond gorgeous!

No doubt whatsoever.
TRUE!
Never want this song to end. A unique masterpiece.
I find Tom Petty so very eclectic. At such an early point in his career, he wrote one one of the most sensuous soul songs I have heard in a long time.
Just heard this song while driving alone at night on a foggy road. The song just fit perfectly with my mood, the quietness and the weather.
This song shows us how deep his talent runs! This has been and always will be my favorite performer,God bless them all!
Wow. I never knew this existed. Tremendous. Love Al Kooper on organ. Love it all.

Sounds like a little Solomon Burke influence, just a tad.
