Gojira's a truly phenomenal band. Their ability to write entrancing grooves that smack like a freight train or give your mind room to wander really is nearly unmatched. Your observation near the beginning about the band's name being derived from Godzilla is even more correct than you might think. Back in the 90s, the band was actually called Godzilla! They later changed it to the name they have now.

This particular video is intensely emotional for me. The depth they pull from... The passion... The artistry. The heaviness. The site of the audience proving all the feelings you feel are shared... One of my favorite videos I keep on loop for hours at a time. It keeps me in a transcendental state... Amazing.

this song is a bit special in the Gojira's discography , repetitive riffS and it's all about the mood with the non stop double bass for 6mn or so .( and no Mario Duplantier the drummer don't use triggers on the drum ,he is just that good and fast ,he is regarded as one of the best modern metal drummer in the world ) but definitely check out others Gojira's song song such as the heaviest matter of the universe, the art of dying ,remembrance from the link alive , teh gift of guilt live at brixton academy ,oroborus live at th eeurocheene 2009 , etc etc ..it's one of the best metal bands of the last decades, cool reaction man

Not sure if this is a good first song to listen because it was extended for minutes for the live audience. They also really like to "meditating" on a riff or groove. That said great reaction, also they definitely have some old school influences. Just don't listen to Heaviest Matter of the Universe live, because all the live versions of that song have overcooked audio on them.

Definitely check out more Gojira, this is just a taste into their discography and it's been extended for a live performance with the main focus that Mario Duplantier (the drummer) plays the double bass for over 5 mins and creating a wall of sound atmosphere really. They are from France and sing in English and have a Japanese band name! They initially called themselves Godzilla before they were forced to change it to the Japanse word due to the film franchise presumably.
Definitely check out Clone and The Art of Dying ( both at Live at Vieilles Charreus Festival), and Remembrance (The Link Alive). Keep the Gojira reactions coming! :)

Oh man. Gojira and then Meshuggah are my two favorite bands. You have to binge and purge both of them.
    Gojira-The Way of All Flesh
    Meshuggah-Clockworks Tomas haake drum playthrough.
The reason why I point out the drum play through for Meshuggah, is that Tomas Haake is considered by a very large number of people to be the best there is. His polyrhythems are very difficult.
As for Joe, the vocalist. If you listen to enough Gojira, you will hear probably a half dozen different voices in his singing. For me, there are certain places in their where his pitch and cadence has seemingly appropriate arrogance to it.
And if you check out Meshuggah, their vocalist, Jens Kidman has a very aggressive, nasty and menacing quality to this voice. Kicks you in the teeth for sure.

Gojira started out as a thrash band, before they found their arty groove metal direction. Love them, the album this is from (From Mars to Sirius) is such a classic, absolutely rewards a detailed listen through.

And yeah the band started out in 1996 as Godzilla when they made their amazing demos it was straight up old style death metal with the same simplicity you see in this song and I guess when they signed with a record label
Or when they started getting noticed they had to legally change their name to something else so they did Gojira

Please keep up with the Gojira. You will find that they are an exceptional live band, sometimes better live than studio. If I may suggest a couple of live songs try out Pray live at Red Rocks and also Oroborus or Flying Whales live...that should get you going. This song is one of those special times they expanded the sound for a live audience and does not keep with the studio version. Checking their catalog will be worth your time. Gojira is headlining with Deftones this summer 2022 which they were supposed to do in 2020. The lineups for other dates are posted as well for anyone interested.

Mario (the drummer) said in an interview in french (they are from france) that this particular song had to be played last during the set because the end is just constant pain (he doesn't use any trigger, maybe that's the word you were searching^^).
Just pick any song from the live at brixton, great audio and great footage.

Love you noticed the ghost notes Mario is a stupidly good drummer this song doesn’t not give an example of how good of a drummer he is and something I love about this band is that the lead singer is also a guitarist so the guitar has to be more simple pretty much and I think that’s great for music like this is easy to learn and all that
