    I used to get a “wet dog” smell when my hair was wet, but it would go away when my hair was dry. I figured out later I wasn’t cleaning y hair as well as I thought. I personally love dishwashing liquid for clarifying. I have also recommended vinegar rinse to a lot of people for breaking down any extra soap that may be left behind in their hair.

    • @AtreyuLocs
      @AtreyuLocs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for sharing your experience! And I know exactly what you mean. The fact that it goes away when the hair is dry is really how it tricks a lot of people 🙂

      I get the "wet dog" smell sometimes, I managed to avoid it the second from last time and it was possibly because I was washing it for like, double the time I usually take. But they're thick dreads to my knee, they take a long time to wash and dry. Last time the smell was still about so if it's here next time I'll try a proper ACV rinse.

    Out of all of the videos that I’ve looked for on TH-cam about this problem, this has been the most informative. Most of them stop at, making sure your locs are thoroughly dry and they just keep repeating that without telling us HOW to get rid of the mold/mildew. I’ve done several ACV rinses to no avail, but I’m going to try the distilled white vinegar. Thanks

    One thing that I can add and agree to is that after doing a ACV rinse on my hair the vinegar did remove the extra dye in my locs but it also enhanced the color.

    Never personally had this issue in my 14 years total of having locs, but still enjoyed watching! Great info! I still prefer to air dry so I wash my hair 1st thing in the day so it can dry. But this set of locs is thicker so I'm not opposed to utilizing a dryer on cool to finish drying at the end of the day. Next time I use ACV I'll be sure to make sure it stays on at least 10 mins!😉

    Yo, thanks for all the info you give in this video man, got dreads since 2016 done by crochet after twist and rip, all by myself, but for the last 2 years i really had the problem with the bad smell when they are wet, no problems when they get dry tho, i had the feeling that i do dry them well and take a really good bath and rinse until no foam is seen, leaving dreadlocks free for 12h after i did the towel dry + air blower dry, it seems that in the end they still have some water that comes off after 30 minutes. How long do you dry your dreads and how exactly? My dreads size are like 3 of yours is one of mine. I use a natural anti-dandruff shampoo that I buy custom made in a lab..kinda.. No oils or anything added on dreads. Will try the vinegar made from grapes to get rid of the smell..so just there with the dreads inside the vinegar for 10 mins then rinse good with water? I usually put shampoo and focus on my scalp more than dreadlocks so i avoit dandruff appearing until the next was (1 time per week).

      @AtreyuLocs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad to hear that. No, you don't need an inflatable basin to do the job. It's just convenient. And yeah, just be sure to rinse everything out very well. A 40 minute rinse might sound like a long time, but it goes by fast when you're flushing out your locs, squeezing the excess water out of them, and repeating the process. I used to hear people say that they took 40 minutes to rinse their hair and I was like, "I could never". Well, never has come lol. You got this! The spray bottle is sufficient!

    whats your advice it look like you know your stuff well

    • @AtreyuLocs
      @AtreyuLocs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bro! It could be lint, in which case it would be extremely hard to get out without compromising the integrity of your dreadlocks. You could try soaking the area in warm to hot water (from the tap) while spot cleansing with a dish washing liquid with lemon to verify that it’s not buildup. If it’s not mold or product buildup, then it’s probably lint, which, if it is embedded in the hair, is nearly impossible to get out without unraveling the loc. If the spot is at the tip, then you could comb out the loc, remove the lint or buildup, and then use a small crochet hook to loc the hair back up, as is done with instant locs. Just an idea. Good luck!
