    I once found a 90cm dish just lying on the street. I dragged it home and set it up by opening a south-facing window, added coax line and jammed the LNB into a north-facing armchair. I got the exact satellite I wanted within 5 minutes, namely Astra1 19.2E. Hundreds of channels direct from Germany. Much better than British Freesat.
    I can also get TV from Hotbird from an old dish on the roof. Literally thousands of free channels from all over the world. I can't even remember how I navigated through them. One of the best channels was the Russia Today/RT Documentary channel. Loads of documentaries about Siberian road trips and stuff like that. Beautiful.

    • @oldblueshirtguy
      @oldblueshirtguy ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely agree on the amazing stuff on Astra/Hotbird, but in hindsight we now know how Russia Today was being funded and used as a weapon to spread misinformation. The beauty of satellite TV is you get to see channels from all around the world and many sides of a story, you just have to remember the political motive of some state funded channels.

      Yes I use 19.2e in UK via 60cm for mtv germany as its FTA in MPEG2 with dance clips. As MTV UK doesn't show dance music.

    I had a 36 in motorized dish for a short while. I found myself doing more blind scans than watching anything. Since I live in a metro area with plenty of OTA channels I don't watch anyways due to all of the programming being complete trash. I just spend my time on TH-cam and HAM / GMRS Radio...radio is by far more interesting than TV these days. Also, no TV or internet makes everything peaceful as I don't see a war or people killing each-other outside my window...makes you think if anything inside TV or internet matters at all when your personal world is completely different.

    Currently not in the US, but am very much looking forwards to putting together a setup. I’m especially interested in getting backhaul feeds, of say, concerts or awards shows. The most interesting part about these is that they come with high-bitrate uncompressed video and Dolby E audio, which you can have lots of fun with.
    If you haven’t already, I’d appreciate a video about getting started with what am interested in. Thanks so much! Keep up the great work.

    Can you get a c-band on a dish for on-hand? By changing the lnb?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      C band is really only fully possible with larger dishes of 8-10 feet. Smaller dishes of 4-6 feet will work if the are outfitted with a C band LNB, but will only collect the strongest transponders. You might get lucky on a 39” KU Band dish retrofitted with a C band LNB, but the chances are marginal.

      Thanks for watching. More than likely it won’t work because the dish probably has a circular LNB, meant for subscription services such a Dish Network, Bell, etc. Also the dish is probably on the small side. Free satellite TV dishes need to be 33-39” in diameter.

      At the time I had picked up a couple of C-band dishes for free. I dismantled them myself and set them back up in my yard. One is almost always fixed on 97 W., and the other I move around to search for channels and use in my videos. Since they are not motorized, I find it easier to have one that is stationary for TV watching and one I can manually move around the geostationary arc to search for channels. Just my personal preference. Thanks for watching!📡📡

      i have never heard of free satellite tv, here nothing outside national tv is free

    • @oldblueshirtguy
      @oldblueshirtguy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LuisTorres-vc6bq Free satellite and terrestrial TV is literally the default (and often the only option) in most of the world. In the UK for example we have Freeview and Freesat, with less than 1/3 of households choosing to pay for subscription satellite TV (i.e. Sky), usually for live sports games.
      In most of Europe the percentage of people paying for premium channels is significantly less and in Africa less than 1% of satellite viewers have a subscription service, since premium channels are just not available other than DSTV.
      As an example, the reason the big news channels such as Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC World etc are global news brands is because they're easily available free in most of the world on Satellite. If they charged a subscription it's not just that people would not choose to pay or even have any way to pay (subscription requires decoders etc which are not standardised or included in many satellite recievers), much of the world would not accept the cost, so the advertising revenue from a massive global audience is much greater than that minimal subscription revenue from the small number of viewers that would replace it.

    Just wondering who provides the free satellite signal , where does it come from?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Satellite operators sell space to TV broadcasters, who put their unencrypted channels on various satellites for viewers to receive with the right kind of satellite dish and receiver. If a broadcaster did not want people watching their channels for free they can encrypt them using many different types of encryption systems.📡
