I was born in early, early 1980s. When I was a kid I would see them everywhere!
Back in the mid-1980s my trade school in Anniston, Alabama took on the project of designing a mesh-and-aluminum satellite dish for Long's Electronics, using simple castings, extrusions and standard hardware.
It's good to see that some of them are still in use... .
I have had Ku FTA for 8 or 9 years and recently I have wanted to check out C band. A man about a mile and a half from my house has a dish that looks a lot like your with the four supports. He is not using it and told me that I could have it. I am going over with my truck in two days to pick it up. It seems to have an actuator on it but I don't know if it works. I am just thankful to get the dish for free. Thanks for your great videos which are very useful for guys like me who are trying to get up to speed.
This video brought back old memories. I used to have multiple dishes, C and KU band both and I actually never had an Actuator. I always moved dish physically and I had marked the location of satellites on the ground around the triangle shaped stand and on the rod at the back for up/down positioning. I also remember C band LNB's polarity being Vertical and Horizontal and then a new type of those LNBs came into the market that was called LNBF. You didn't need to physically move LNB to get V/H polarities, those new ones covered both sides!
Now a days with everything on Internet and Streaming platforms, I think the good old ways of setting up your Dish and accessing channels from half the world is pretty much a thing of past.
Same here, 32 yrs ago.
Got some old school hardware there, good to see it getting used again. I had motorised system with d2mac decoder and several dishes here in UK, was good days back when Eurosport was free for touring car racing in Germany and the Indy 500 in the States. I had a IBM thinkpad 486 laptop with a serial cable adaptor sticking out the front sat reciever it was sitting on, seems like so long ago, long forgotten interest back from the days of DOS, 9 pin Dsubs, soldering irons, double decker vhs recorders.
They're everywhere in the Midwest
@@sleepdeep305 I live south of Chicago. And they where everywhere. 👍🏻🇺🇲
Brother Robbie you have a second hand c band is a great dish, Will definitely sell through your efforts,, God bless you brother ✝️🙏
Dont have one on me.

Hi. Just discovered you. I have a 10.5 foot Unimesh C/Ku dish I bought new in 1980. I drifted away from using it by 2003 having gone to digital over the air HDTV (I live in NJ). I am going to go over your posts and try and resuscitate my system, hopefully on a small budget. Something I loved back then was CBC North. Is it still available on the C band? Another thing I used to get was sideband transmissions. It was audio and included local radio from the most northern parts of Canada and was entertaining to listen to. People talking to far off neighbors, requesting songs for friends and family on their birthdays, etc. Don’t know if these new systems have this anymore now that I guess everything is digital and/or they were using some sort of ham radio that was being uplinked by a radio station in Yellowknife for example. Anyway thanks for the interesting information. I look forward to diving into this further.
Robbie, wish that I know where to get H-180 mount AZ/EL someplace on this planet???
is there any new c band subscription?
Is there a good kit available for purchase (dish,lnb,receiver,attenuator,etc..) for someone looking to get into hobby FTA TV? I used to have a c-band dish back in the day but now in my apartment I can only put up a KU dish and I'd like to find a complete package that has everything I need to get started.
Not that I know of, You have to buy the box and Dish. Tek2000 did for c band dishes before the Container shortage. But I do have a list of things on ebay in the description of this video!
nice
How long can I run the wire from dish to house?/ for satellite to have a good view I’d have to have like 150 ft atleast... and since satellite is a higher frequency from regular ota TV is there any kind of amplifier for it?
I'd say try run like that and if there's a problem look into an amplifier
I have a question, if I could get one of these and set it up in Mexico (currently live in the US but have a house in Mexico) would it also pick up channels ? Or does it only work in the states
It does not no borders that's the best part of it as long as you're in the North American hemisphere
Not on the subject of tv reception but is there a way to use the old c band dishes for wifi entennas?
You can always try!
Can you pick up the live feeds of tv stations from where a reporter is on the scene somewhere with those?
Yes, on 99west ,87 west 123west and most others. You have to blind scan to find them
@@RobbieStrike I've always wanted to have a satellite dish for receiving those feeds.
robbie question what spanish channels i can get in south florida those from south america? hollwyood florida area thx
There is some on 97 west c band. Don't know what they are! also on 55 west!
My TV does this automatically.
Picked Up a Echostar 7.5 ft today, no Post or Receiver, just the Dish , C/KU Feed Horn, and Moter for Changing Skatalites, Long arm Thing, I had a Radio Shack 8 ftr Back in the day C Band only but it did come with a nice Uniden Receiver, Digital. 7.5 ft is Plenty in Phoenix Arizona, Ariea. Maybe down the Road I will Find the Resto of it , LOL Free is Free, The Price of C/KU Feed Horns is Not Cheap , The Niebur Didn't want to Get rid of The Post, What a Turd he was. The Dude Had no Idea What it Really Was ! New Neibers can be interesting.
You will at least need a digital receiver.
yes I will Watch for one on Craigslist and Offer Up, Maybe an old Pirated one would be cool, I had one once watched all NFL Live Wild Feeds for the Networks, LOL it was Kool.
I brought my in 1989 did update the system in 2017 and working good. I do not like the Mahanttan receiver do to poor connection with remote control.
Two good receivers I did a review on

Do the KU band dishes require constant rotation when changing channels?
No only if you want to move to different satellites that have different channels. For example if there's a satellite that has a bunch of channels you like you just leave your dish park there
I have a big satellite dish 📡 (the pie slices one) and I have the Direct TV one it was my in-laws’ house so I don’t even know when they stopped using that, I know someone cut the wires, I know how to connect wires but I don’t know what else do I need to use on my tv without breaking any law.
It is on your property so it is yours.
I have a huge one. I am about to get rid of it when I change my roof.
I'm looking for KTI's ProForm H-180 Mount with gear motor. Where can I find one???
Or AJAX H-180 Mount with gear motor, also. Please let me know.. Thanks, Eugene - Seattle, Washington - U.S.A.
I have not seen those for C band in a wile. Did you try tek2000.com ?
Robbie is there such a thing as c band internet, or is this not available on satellite?
Most satellite internet that I know of is though Ka band! like Husenet! And now there is starlink that uses a band closer to KU band! but with low earth satellites!
I have a large satellite dish that I would like to rehab. Where do I find help to do this? I live in Central Pennsylvania.
Join our Facebook page, Watch more of this channel, and if your on Discord there is a group on how to do that
Just recently got a 12 foot Cband for free.. I Was thinking about putting it up, but wondering if i would be limited because of my Location? I live in Alaska so i am thinking that i would be limited on what satellites i can get? Also i remember my cousin in the 80s, and 90s used to be able to get live raw news feeds.. Like up feeds that were being broadcast without being edited.. Do these channels still exist? Thanks
Yes, And a 12 footer would be good to have that far north! You may be able to get some of the Russian satellites! There is a few itc channels that are spot beamed for your state as well!
@@RobbieStrike I will have to look more into those Russian satellites! I wanted to ask you.. I basically just went and tore this dish down, so i do not have any instructions for it! The actuator is still with it, and it looks to be in good shape? There are 4 wires on it.. I assume 2 are the power and ground, what are the other 2 for? I am thinking they are a way to actually control the actuator? Will a new Receiver control the Actuator? Also does this actuator work with 12 volts? Thanks,
They used to say that the WV state flower is a satellite dish 😂😂
hi. what satellite/channel is the wrestling on?
You can watch the live feed with the behind the seens stuff on C band Intel. 34/55.5W

Will a Direct TV box work ???
Sorry no
What is fta satellites here in philipines
I would look that up on www.Lyngsat.com
Hey man anyway you could do like a dummies intro to freesattv? I've picked up a lot of information from your channel but I'm having a hard time piecing it all together. Like all the equipment you need, a linear explanation of equipment (i.e. the sat connects to the receiver, receiver to the TV etc), and the terminology like "geostationary tract" what does that mean? Do you NEED to track? Can it be fixed? Also throw in a faq. Like can you pick up KU on Cband? What kind of channels can you watch? Idk. Just spitballing. It would be helpful for myself I'm sure others would benefit. Keep up the good work guy. 👊👊
There is several playlists on my channel that can help you out th-cam.com/video/F1r-SeJTm7c/w-d-xo.html
@@RobbieStrike Hey man seriously you're the only one sharing this info. I appreciate ya man. I'll keep combing your playlist and liking your videos. 👍👍
@@shawnp8628 Thank you for watching! I love this hobby. As I am watching WWE Monday Night Raw on 55 west in HD with the behind the seens stuff!

Using 5g lnb
what one do you have?
Back in the day they were worth owning after January 16th 1986 the skies went black when HBO and Cinemax scrambled 24/7 than other networks would follow I see no reason to own one again they are not going up anywhere .
If you want to buy one
I got one for sale
I have a satellite Facebook group. You could post it on there if you want
@@RobbieStrike
Still works I have all the original equipment
It's called a Polar Mount - not a pole mount. I appreciate your enthusiastic video, but you don't really know what you're talking on about. I installed literally thousands of these in the early 1980s to late 1980s. The early units used LNAs - low noise amplifiers, by 1985 LNB (low noise blockdown converters) were coming into play. Chaparral feedhorns with the servo motors were the feedhorn of choice. Houston Tracker made the defacto standard dish moving motors and arms. I have 7 top of the line C-band receivers with their converters and extremely low temp LNAs still in quite usuable condition.
Again, this is a nice try...but I urge anyone interested in this dinosaur tech to do a lot more research than merely listening to this video. It still works, you can still watch unscrambled video.
I got rg5.wire and three wires coming off it
How can i contact you?
