Even without the 300m time he ran, his natural progression to 19.5 suggests he is going to go much faster this year. I don't see 19.4. I see him going 19.3 or better and yes I do compare last year to Bolt's 2007 and this year is going to be insane. He seems to have more strength and control. He will definitely challenge Noah in the 200m. Personally i think he should do the 100m and 200m and then use an off year, such as 2026 to try and go for the 400m record.

Two times world junior champion over 100m
Broke the world junior record three times in six months
The current news circulating here in Botswana is that last season he was forced to abandon the 100m training and only focus on endurance for the 200m that's why he was mainly running the 300 and 400
Every 100m race he ran last year was not trained for at all, he only relied on his natural speed

Interesting and agree with actual randome, that would make sense considering he didn't improve in the 100, but drastically stepped up in the 200m (2nd half) and 400m. But well see how things pan out this year!

@@trinidadrodriquez876 Lyles ran that 19.31 two years ago. Since then, their PBs have grown closer (Lyles ran 19.47 and Tebogo ran 19.50 in July 2023). Athletes focussing on 200m usually start their season by running 400m or 300m to improve stamina, while athletes focussing on 100m begin with 60m to improve their starts. Tebogo has already broken the 300m world record this year, and he's gunning for his first Olympics. What does that tell you about his 200m performances later this summer?

Tebogo is the outlier for this current generation. He has top end speed and the endurance, and also a good start, If you look at the splits from last year's 100m final he was up there with Coleman in the first 40m. That is a dangerous combination.

His first pro season he ran 9.88(100m) and 19.50(200m) and 44.75(400m) ...and got double medals at worlds

Tebogo has massive potential and I do believe he will challenge if not defeat Lyles in the 100/200 this season. The only sprinter whose top speed matches Lyles which I think the only way anyone has a chance of beating him.

  • @Brave-828
    @Brave-828 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

People forget that Lyles right now is in the best shape of his life. All things considered, if he runs the 100m and 200m, he’ll most certainly medal
In the 100m and win the 200m. Tebogo is clearly the superior talent but he hasn’t reached his potential yet.
On a different note, no sprinter capable of dominating the 100m bothers to run the 400m because 100m sprinters are far more popular and get paid significantly more. Compare Steven Gardner’s social media following to Marcel Jacobs, Fred Kerley during his 400m days to Fred Kerley after joining the 100m club…

  • @drtslim

I’ve always thought that Tebogo’s best event is the 200m. I think that his performance over 300m showed great speed endurance and some strength, which IMO more directly translates to the 200m and 400m. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on Botswana’s 4x400m relay team in Paris. From the speed endurance and strength that he demonstrated over 300m, I think that a slight improvement in his 100m performance will translate to a much more significant improvement in the 200m (low 9.8 to high 19.3).

No doubt Tebogo has an amazing stride and is very talented. His top four 100m times last year were 9.88, 9.93, 9.98, 10.05. I see him as more of a 200m threat than 100m threat. He did take second at WC, but .004 secs separated 2, 3, 4 and he could have easily taken 4th. I think it's going to take a sub 9.80 to win and sub 9.85 to medal. Lyles, Kerley, Coleman.

Tebogo is a Premier League athlete, but we should never compare breaking the 300m event as the same as breaking the 100 , 200 or 400m. The reason is that the 300 is run early season , when athletes are not up to speed as yet , and also it's not a regular event on track . Lots of 400 athletes would run better times closer to the Olympic starting dates if tested . Even Tebogo himself would do better times over the 300 later in the season when peaking .

The only other athletes to run the 300m in under 31 seconds are Usain Bolt who holds the 100 and 200 world records as well as anchoring the only sub 37 second 4×100 relay, Michael Johnson who held the 200 and 400 world records plus anchoring the only sub 2:55 4×400 relay and Wayde VanNeikerk who holds the world and Olympic record for the 400. If Steven Gardiner and Michael Norman are in peak condition, it's probably going to require running close to 43 flat to win the Olympic gold medal

I was thinking about, what was the shining moment of his 19.5.I can’t remember but someone said he had the fastest or one of the fastest last 50s of all time in a 2. So when I think about this 300 performance, I don’t really c his speed endurance improving tooo drastically for the 2, his area of main improvement that can challenge Noah will be his first 150 if that doesn’t drastically change, I don’t think I c him giving Noah much a a challenge at oly.
I still think tebogo will definitely pb in the 2, but I think Noah is also gonna pb particularly after 6.43/44, so Imo this is Noah’s year to get the wr. Tebogo is deff a favourite for silver this year tho.

Letsile is like an even more extreme version of Noah Lyles. He starts even slower and finishes even faster. I don't think you can predict too much from this 300m performance, because it's his strength that is his strength, if you see what I mean. I would say this is more of an indicator for a faster 400m, although it does suggest some improvement in the shorter distances, it's likely that his speed maintenance has improved more than his top end speed. It's quite difficult to tell, given that he slowed down so much at the end of the race last year. Either way, his WR has generated even more interest and excitement, these Olympics could be epic.

There will be other young guys coming up making names for themselves in the next couple of years. Almost nobody heard of Knighton or Tebogo 4 years ago yet 2-3 years later they are collecting medals at the world level in the sprints.

Point I've been making re the M300m WR is that Prime WvN never got the chance to break his 300/400m WRs; Bolt only ran it once; and that the current Top 200/400m guys (Lyles, Knighton, Bednarek, Norman, Gardiner) haven't gone out of their way to run the outdoor 300m! There's clearly been a big improvement but once you account for not running through the line last year & altitude adjustments, it's not to the scale that those who're getting carried away with 200/400m WR talk assume it is. With the introduction of a 3rd Global Outdoor Champs in '26 which is meant to be 'faster paced over 3 nights with only the most popular events selected which will only have Semi & Final rounds as the athletes compete for the biggest prize pot in the sport', would be fun to see someone attempt a crazy Sprint Triple or at the very least try an 'unusual double' e.g. Kerley 100/400m double?!
