I still remember 17 year old Tebogo running 10.11 in 2021 breaking Issac Makwala's national record. Later in 2021 he went to the world u20 championships and won gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m, In 2022 he as an 18 year old he ran 9.96 breaking the world u20 record, having turned 19 years later in 2022 he again broke the u20 record running 9.94, he then went again and broke the world u20 record at the 2022 junior championships running 9.91 while showboating and surprisingly he didn't win Gold in the 200m though he ran a PB of 19.96 becoming the only teenager to run under 10s for the 100m and 20s for the 200m I think coming into 2023 we were all excited for his 100m more than his 200m,his time as a junior to me indicates his incredible ceiling in terms of the 100m

As to Tebogo, his amazingly symmetrical form is a big factor, not only because the minimal energy consumption it allows in the 200, 300 and 400 meters, but also for the longevity of his 100m career and chances to improve as he ages: here I have in mind Tebogo's "opposite" in this respect, Usain Bolt, who set his world records at the age of 22, and from this age on, albeit being phenomenal, his speed deteriorated almost constantly, due to injuries, which hindered his trainings and stemmed for the most part from his asymmetrical form, which was a result of the uneven size of his legs and his scoliosis.
I like the note on how his form will play into his longevity in the event assuming he is able to manage and remain healthy which hindered Usain Bolt after 2010. Appreciate you watching!

Next year, he again broke the 100m and 200m WR and got triple again in Berlin - he was 22 at the time.. Then, he pretty much won everything from then on and broke the 100m OR in London 12 and the WR in the 4x100m - he was 25 at the time. He was athlete of the year 6 times or something like that. He again got gold at the 2016 Olympics in both the 100, 200 and 4x100m. From 2008 till 2013 he was so far ahead his competitors... Good luck topping that, let alone by a lot like you're suggesting. Noah Lyles has the best possibility to break the 200 but not at the Olympics but at Olympic trials. The Eugene track is built for speed and it’s the track that has set the most records and pb’s. From Tobi Amusan and Sydney breaking the world records in the hurdles. To Elaine becoming the fastest alive. To Gabby Thomas running 21.6s. And Noah running 19.31. Don’t forget Noah has never ran a 200m race in Eugene since he set the American record. He had a bye last year to the world championships, so he choose not to run the 200. I see him setting a pb at the least when Olympic trials come around.

Comparing Tebogo's 2023 with Usain's 2007 makes no sense. Bolt stepping up like that was an absolute anomaly. We should not expect that kind of leveling up from anyone. Each sprinter is unique and they level up at different times in their career. Some sprinters don't even level up that much. Look at Gatlin: ran 9.77s at 21/22 and he remained at the 9.7s range for the rest of his career.
Well over 30 plethora synonyms in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary :) NGR (plus a few other African countries) through woeful Sports Administration Leadership has resulted in a ridiculous amount of athletes over the last 20+ yrs switching citizenship who've then gone to do well for their new countries e.g. Francis Obikwelu (9.86/19.84) who won Olympic 100m Silver in '04 after switching to Portugal in '01 following a terrible experience with NGR Leadership @Sydney Olympics. Unfortunately, there's always a chance it could happen again with any of Udodi, Ashe & Godson Brume. Obikwelu while still competing for NGR could've been the 1st African to win a WC 100m Medal had he run the event @'99 WC instead of only the 200m (won the Bronze Medal) given his good 100m record vs Surin & esp Chambers at that point in time. Udodi going under the radar relative to Tebogo & Knighton might actually be a great thing for him, and would love to see both SA & NGR's 4x1 Teams in the Olympic Final as both have the quality to be there & take advantage if any of the usual suspects slip up!
Yea Obikwelu and Aloze are two glaring examples. Glory did win a bunch of medals before transferring to Spain, but it was all because of Administration, unfortunately. I think Udodi arguably has some of the most potential of any young athlete right now. and he's training under Lance Brauman now in Florida so will be interesting to see his progress this Olympic year. I'll be at World Relays next month and hoping to see South Africa, Nigeria, Botswana (4x4) and other teams who are very much medal threats there to get a bit of practice, prep and camaraderie ahead of Paris. Even Ghana could be a sleeper again considering they ended out the USA for a spot in the final in Tokyo

World Relays should be good, wanna see as many of the different Teams from the 4x1 to the Mixed 4x4 (if they have the depth) from the likes of NGR, SA, BOT, CIV, GHA, LBR, BAH, T&T etc., do as well as possible against the usual suspects of USA, JAM & GBR as I think it's great for the sport!

What makes Tebogo special is not only does he have top end speed+endurance, but he's got a good start. As well as championship pedigree, whenever he's reached a final he's medaled, a bit like DeGrasse in that regard.

At NCAA’s she blazed past the inferior competition making it seem like she had a great start. Up until she faced athletes on her level. Then people saw that her start only looked good against college athletes. Same with Tebogo. His starts only look good against inferior competition. Age group doesn’t necessarily mean they are on your level especially if you’re setting junior records.
He's 'only fast' in Kenya because of the elevation there, Nairobi is roughly 1800m above sea level and with that comes thinner air and thus less air resistance, meaning sprinters can run somewhat faster there than in European countries that host Diamond leagues.
Also, if he trains in Nairobi, his body is accustomed to thinner air(less air resistance) so it becomes harder for him to run faster when the air is denser
Never another Bolt is strong prediction! Maybe not in our lifetimes, but who knows! There were people alive when Jesse Owens dominated in the 1930s but then if they lived to be 80 or 90 they saw Carl Lewis and Bolt come along!

Time Progression to me is a very topical comparison because it doesnt necessarily point to any of the above criteria, especially if you have contemporaries who are capable of matching your times and beating you on any given day. And even if Tebogo or others are faster than Bolt at the same age, it doesn't not mean they will have a linear progression up. I agree that Tebogo has a bunch of guys around his age that will make it challenging for him to do what Bolt did, even at just 1 olympics or worlds. Tebogo could run 19.3 and lose to Lyles and Knighton. Even Udodi could make a huge jump up. He could also run 9.7 and lose to a bunch of guys. Bolt was at a level where he ran fast, but then later in his career, had an aura that dictaed the pace of the sprint field no matter the time. He ran 9.81/19.80 in Rio and won with space to spare.

Issam Asinga's 9.89 unfortunately is seen as a record with an asterisk after being caught with Carderine in his system. Tebogo to me is still the king of the 100m junior division.
Tebogo is to blame for celebrating 30m before the line in his 9.91 instead of finishing strong. He probably threw away a low 9.8

Comparing Tebogo's 2023 with Usain's 2007 makes no sense. Bolt stepping up like that was an absolute anomaly. We should not expect that kind of leveling up from anyone. Each sprinter is unique and they level up at different times in their career. Some sprinters don't even level up that much. Look at Gatlin: ran 9.77s at 21/22 and he remained at the 9.7s range for the rest of his career.

Well over 30 plethora synonyms in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary :) NGR (plus a few other African countries) through woeful Sports Administration Leadership has resulted in a ridiculous amount of athletes over the last 20+ yrs switching citizenship who've then gone to do well for their new countries e.g. Francis Obikwelu (9.86/19.84) who won Olympic 100m Silver in '04 after switching to Portugal in '01 following a terrible experience with NGR Leadership @Sydney Olympics. Unfortunately, there's always a chance it could happen again with any of Udodi, Ashe & Godson Brume. Obikwelu while still competing for NGR could've been the 1st African to win a WC 100m Medal had he run the event @'99 WC instead of only the 200m (won the Bronze Medal) given his good 100m record vs Surin & esp Chambers at that point in time. Udodi going under the radar relative to Tebogo & Knighton might actually be a great thing for him, and would love to see both SA & NGR's 4x1 Teams in the Olympic Final as both have the quality to be there & take advantage if any of the usual suspects slip up!
Yea Obikwelu and Aloze are two glaring examples. Glory did win a bunch of medals before transferring to Spain, but it was all because of Administration, unfortunately.
I think Udodi arguably has some of the most potential of any young athlete right now. and he's training under Lance Brauman now in Florida so will be interesting to see his progress this Olympic year.
I'll be at World Relays next month and hoping to see South Africa, Nigeria, Botswana (4x4) and other teams who are very much medal threats there to get a bit of practice, prep and camaraderie ahead of Paris. Even Ghana could be a sleeper again considering they ended out the USA for a spot in the final in Tokyo
@@TheFinalLeg Rooting for Udodi in his 1st Pro season to make the Paris 200m Final alongside fellow youngsters Tebogo & Knighton, that rivalry even w/o Noah should be fun over the next 8-10yrs. World Relays should be good, wanna see as many of the different Teams from the 4x1 to the Mixed 4x4 (if they have the depth) from the likes of NGR, SA, BOT, CIV, GHA, LBR, BAH, T&T etc., do as well as possible against the usual suspects of USA, JAM & GBR as I think it's great for the sport!

What makes Tebogo special is not only does he have top end speed+endurance, but he's got a good start. As well as championship pedigree, whenever he's reached a final he's medaled, a bit like DeGrasse in that regard.
Tebogo is many things but a good starter is not one of them.
@@kc5466 by good I don't mean Coleman level good, I've watched his best 100m races and he tends to be first to react to the gun and first to reach 10-30m. In fact if rewatch last year's final or his 100m U20 record you'll see that on his day, his start is just as good as the best.

So I’m not talking about races where he is way above the competition. Cuz its impossible not to have a good start against inferior competition. Because their starts are worse.
But against competitors on his level his start is average.

Shacarri has a notoriously bad start. At NCAA’s she blazed past the inferior competition making it seem like she had a great start. Up until she faced athletes on her level. Then people saw that her start only looked good against college athletes. Same with Tebogo. His starts only look good against inferior competition.
Age group doesn’t necessarily mean they are on your level especially if you’re setting junior records.

He's 'only fast' in Kenya because of the elevation there, Nairobi is roughly 1800m above sea level and with that comes thinner air and thus less air resistance, meaning sprinters can run somewhat faster there than in European countries that host Diamond leagues.
Also, if he trains in Nairobi, his body is accustomed to thinner air(less air resistance) so it becomes harder for him to run faster when the air is denser

Never another Bolt is strong prediction! Maybe not in our lifetimes, but who knows! There were people alive when Jesse Owens dominated in the 1930s but then if they lived to be 80 or 90 they saw Carl Lewis and Bolt come along!

Time Progression to me is a very topical comparison because it doesnt necessarily point to any of the above criteria, especially if you have contemporaries who are capable of matching your times and beating you on any given day.
Shoot we haven't even seen a sprinter with the career of a Michael Johnson (all his individual championship medals were gold) let alone a Usain.
I think Tebogo has/will have too many contemporaries that will keep any Bolt-like dominance from occuring

I definitely just posed the question of Tebogo as the next Bolt because the conversation has been coming up, but I personally am slowing down on my expectations for Tebogo despite knowing he has a lot of potential. Running sub 19.20 is no joke, and running 9.58 is not human.
But like you say, its all emcompassing. Bolt won triple triples year after year after year. He wasn't normal. And even if Tebogo or others are faster than Bolt at the same age, it doesn't not mean they will have a linear progression up.
I agree that Tebogo has a bunch of guys around his age that will make it challenging for him to do what Bolt did, even at just 1 olympics or worlds. Tebogo could run 19.3 and lose to Lyles and Knighton. Even Udodi could make a huge jump up.
He could also run 9.7 and lose to a bunch of guys.
Bolt was at a level where he ran fast, but then later in his career, had an aura that dictaed the pace of the sprint field no matter the time. He ran 9.81/19.80 in Rio and won with space to spare.
