#HOG family don’t mind when you pause! There is no way to have a discussion about his music if you wait to the end because he says too much. We actually get a kick out of the pausing!

I appreciate these types of songs by Tom almost as much as his political type of songs. Been clean for 15 years and these help me remember the hell that was life when I was using. It was a tough road and glad to have made it out on this side of the dirt. Many are not that fortunate.

It's so awesome how Tom can go from one week of flexing so hard he has all his fans cheering him on. And then the very next week he has his fans bawling our eyes out as he shows how vulnerable he can be by spotlighting such an important topic! I personally hate rap music but Tom MacDonald is a musical genius! #hangovergang 4life!

It is awesome Michael! I think it’s time for the music industry to stop trying to pigeonhole Tom as a “rapper“ because he has shown, time and time again, that he’s simply a musical artist. Thank you for watching my friend, and taking the time to comment. - C -

Tom MacDonald is every inch the revolutionary artist equivalent to Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince in the eighties, As iconic as The Beach Boys or The Beatles in the sixties, As ground breaking as Elvis or ole' blue eyes himself before that. In a word Tom MacDonald is the musical standard for this generation. And he himself has set that standard pretty Dang high! #hangovergang 4life

10 months ago we laid my sister to rest. She had a strong addiction to drugs and was fighting depression. We did everything we could think of to get her on the right path. It seemed no matter how much we did, she herself would give up before trying. At one point we thought we were ready for the day it happened, but ultimately we were no where near prepared. This song really hits close to home. For those who are in similar situations as she was, please seek help and don't give up.

I use to be a user and I recovered but let me explain why people are found alone. People are usually alone in every OD case I seen and EXPERIENCED. Most people use together not because they're friends but to have company in the misery so when you want to see a street, alley or house vacate extremely fast just OD. What I am saying is that as soon as an OD starts you find out no one is your friend. In the end I moved across the country and found a true friend to recover 100%

As Always, Great review/Breakdown. I'm happily surprised that this song is doing as well as it is.....it gives me some hope. I got sober back in 88, after waking up having NO idea where I was, covered in blood (that turned out to Not be my own)...I was a very aggressive/angry drunk. The hardest part was not getting sober, it was Staying sober. Friends making it almost a game of getting me to drink/use; Life's up and downs; etc. I joined the Army in 89. The Army/Military, at least during that time, had a culture all it's own surrounding alcohol (60 minutes did a segment it, and FT Bragg (NC) Shoppette sold more Beer than any other "store" (military OR civilian) in the country).
I NEVER knew what my future was going to look like Sober......but I KNEW that I didn't want my future to look like my past. There were times that I took things one MINUTE at a time....and there WERE times when I honestly thought about climbing into a bottle and making things all go away. It's work. But....It's Worth it.

    • @CedricandBrian
      @CedricandBrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you for sharing your story John. I loved your statement where you said that the hard part wasn’t getting sober; it was staying sober. I think that’s what Tom meant in his song when he said that he had to delete some phone numbers, because I’m sure it was a combination of not wanting to talk to people, but also getting rid of those “friends“ who were not good for him. Again, thank you for sharing my friend. - C -

I found 'Sober' to be encouraging, and even 'Best Rapper Ever'. This one, more of a sympathetic thing. When getting sober, putting your party years behind you, the self pity, the embarrassment, scaring yourself. It's relatable to the sorrow one experiences.

Tom went into his breakdown in a basement apartment where he was alone and couldn't get out of bed for depression, but was paranoid and anxious as well. His parents asked a friend of his to pack him up and send him home, which the friend did. He spent nine months just trying to survive each day. He said there were only two words he uttered in a day's time. His mom (coming home from work, I assume) would ask how he was and he would answer, "Not good.". He had to force himself to consume a single egg each day, retching while he tried to get it down. Knowing that I won't think about my own experiences because i"m terrified it will drag me back to that place, I'm amazed at the guts it took to write this and then to put it out there. It seems he will never forgive himself for what he put his family through. That comes out in other tracks, but never as clearly as in this one. Odd that people we have hurt can forgive so much more easily than we can forgive ourselves. I saw somewhere that Emily is his sister's middle name. Don't quote me.

Brian & Cedric, thank you for this reaction, & for taking the time to include the help phone number and other info. Cedric, I pray for your friend who recently lost her son - for healing and peace.
I’ve heard that when people lose a loved one, especially unexpectedly, love & support can carry the family through the difficult time-but-then the loss often hits hard again several months later, because the “active” support has faded. I’d encourage everyone to continue checking in on people once the wave of support has receded. It will not cause a family additional pain to bring it up. They think of it daily anyway.
Much love to C&B, and to all those in pain. There is always a way out of the darkness. Never give up, and don’t be embarrassed or scared to get the help you deserve❤️❤️❤️

This past year really was hard on kids. My own child (she's 9 now) is the most light hearted, social, fun kid but when they wouldn't let the kids in school or to be able to go to the parks, etc we dealt with her having a depression. I would walk in her room and she would be crying and then tell me she didn't know why she was crying, she just felt sad. That scared me so much. I had depression issues growing up and never thought I would see it with her because of her personality but 2020 was terrible for her, it's crazy what they went thru. Glad to say she is doing better right now!

This reminds me of what my brother went through as recovering drug and alcohol addiction. My brother had to hit rock bottom before he would get help. I have been through a bad depression for years. I have attempted suicide at least 20 or more times. I finally got help. I have been in counseling for 20 years now. The video made me cry. I feel what Tom is saying because of my depression and my brother's alcohol and drug abuse. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. My brother has been clean for about 15 yrs now and I have not attempted suicide in about 10 years.

And as someone who also went through severe depression (and anxiety), I understand how easy it is to fall into the addiction trap, when the doctors so easily prescribe addictive medications for these issues. So much has to change within health care. By the way, if you haven't reacted to Tom's song SOBER, I highly recommend it. (It's much more inspiring than this one.)

Didn’t see many comment on this… trying to get sober for me was very lonely. Even if you have a support system they don’t understand or feel the things going on in your head or body. I found a key part of me getting sober was cutting ties with those I did drugs with- forever. When your using those are most of your “friends” and knowing you will have to start over with making new friends is scary and also lonely.

For Tom and Nova to transcend to the next dimension, they need to go from just rapping about the problems and issues to also giving people the answers to the problems and issues, which ultimately ends up being spiritual. I am praying, believing Tom and Nova will become spiritually born-again Christians with an intimate, personal relationship with the Holy Godhead (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). Only then will their music become not just entertaining or thought-provoking, but everlastingly transformational. I truly believe Tom and Nova have the potential to be just as revolutionary in today's rap industry, as Michael Jackson did to the entire music industry in the 1980s when he literally single-handedly saved and changed the industry through his music and videos. EVERY GIFT WITH WHICH WE ARE BLESSED IS TO BE USED FOR THEIR GLORY AND PURPOSES AND NOT OUR OWN EARTHLY, TEMPORAL PLANS AND PURPOSES: BEARING FRUITS NOT JUST ON A TEMPORAL, HUMAN LEVEL, BUT ON AN EVERLASTING, SPIRITUALLY TRANSFORMING DIMENSION. AMEN! AMEN!! AMEN!!! Infinite love & blessings

Tom has chronic depression and anxiety (which is a symptom of depression), so he'll be fighting this for the rest of his life. Tom did what I did before his breakdown. He self-medicated in an extreme way. There are no words to explain to someone who hasn't experienced it, and the "snap out of it" thing is real. It makes you feel alone and misunderstood. I think Tom has Nova there to encourage him, but ultimately he has to deal with it. Tom tries to stay away from the medication because he was abusing pills and drinking (In "No Response," he says, "I was chasing the dragon with no medieval invention," which is smoking a pill on foil). He said that he pushes so hard because stopping will trigger his anxiety and fear of falling back into poverty and addiction. He wants to help whoever he can, and that's why he exposes his problems to us.

I warn my kids that anything can become an addiction, and you won't know what it is until you have already done it.
Alcohol, cigarettes, drugs get all the attention but video games, sex, porn, all have taken their tolls.
My son talks about being interested in some things that they claim aren't addictive, and I cannot stress it to him enough don't do shit that alters your mind or emotional state bc it can be addictive for anyone, even if it's not the norm.

This song is not really one of encouragement, I see it more as a lesson on the reality of substance abuse.
In the end, you either beat it or overdose. Either way, that passage out is not pretty. It’s better not to start, seriously. Tom is speaking 💯 Truth.
One of the great aspects of this is it can give insight to those, not suffering withdrawals but witnessing a loved one go through it. It can help them understand and have empathy for the struggle.
